The South Lake Tahoe Library will be hosting an art program for children ages 8 – 13 years old on Saturday, June 2 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Children will learn about Pointillism and create an artwork of their own to keep.

Space is limited, registration required. Register at eldoradolibrary.org and click on Programs and Events Calendar.

Great Prairie™ Sports has announced the inaugural Great Prairie™ Youth Triathlon presented by Hydron Module Geothermal Systems on Saturday, July 7, 2018. Tahoe Paradise Park in Meyers will be the base for the event, which is for boys and girls ages 7-15.

For youth competing in their first Triathlon or for those progressing their development, organizers say Tahoe Paradise Park truly is a remarkable venue for the following reasons:

In advance of Earth Day, the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center will have a presentation on April 10 around the fact that 500 million straws used, and discarded, daily in the United States.

That is enough straws to wrap around the Earth's circumference 2.5 times a day.

MEYERS, Calif. — Register now for the third annual OMG Fun Run to be held Sunday, June 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Old Meyers Grade in Meyers.

Registration is now open at meyerscommunityfoundation.org through 8:00 p.m. June 2. Advanced registration is $15 for adults and $5 for children (12 and under) and includes a free OMG t-shirt. Kids under 5 attend free. Registration the day of the event is $20 for adults and $10 for children and will be held onsite at Old Meyers Grade from 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

The Live Violence Free Girls Empowerment Retreat in South Lake Tahoe on March 28 is open to all eighth grade girls.

This retreat encourages eighth grade girls to explore self-worth, care, leadership and sisterhood, to move forward into freshman year feeling connected with their peers, and strong in their own capabilities. The day is structured with lessons, activities, games, food, and most of all: fun!!

The retreat is FREE for participants.

Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) on Thursday, February 8 to hear about research on the composition of the Universe, properties of dark matter, and the latest discoveries about the Universe's past. Dr. Marusa Bradac, originally from Slovenia, is a physics professor at UC Davis.

Sierra-at-Tahoe is holding "Jammin 4 Tash" on Saturday, January 20 to honor the late Natasha "Tash" Sagucka who died from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on November 4, 2017 at the age of 24.

"From the time she was two years old till her last days on this earth she found peace, love and light on the mountains," was stated on Sagucka's obituary. "She thrived from the energy of slashing through the trees and sliding on the rails just perfectly."

The powerful images of climate change, the catastrophic scenes of ice shelves collapsing and the rare fresh water lake system they leave behind will be the focus of the next U.C. Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) presentation on November 9 in Incline Village.

Epishelf lakes, the rare lake system where freshwater overlies seawater, have been researched by Assistant Professor Dr. Alex Forrest and his team in the remote Canadian Arctic.

It’s that time again. The Battle Born state celebrates its admission to the United States on the last Friday of October, with the annual Nevada Day parade on Saturday. New this year is a ‘Passport to Downtown’ event on Friday. Also new this year is the one-night-only curated art show, Capital Collage, on Friday night featuring over 20 diverse artists and organizations.

The last meeting of El Dorado County's Medical Marijuana Advisory Committee was a packed house, with a majority of those in attendance made up of cannabis growers in the area, and more of the same is expected at their next meeting.

One of the organizers, County Supervisor Sue Novasel of the South Shore, said all participants were respectful of each other's opinions. "It was a good meeting," said Novasel. She said many were concerned about a proposed registration procedure.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Community College joins the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office and Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley in denouncing the White House’s action on Tuesday to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
