Holiday buzz starts with Barton's 45th Holiday Faire

Get into the holiday spirit and support community health at the forty-fifth annual Holiday Faire on Sunday, November 8. Community members and visitors of all ages are encouraged to attend this merry event at St. Teresa Grace Hall.

Every year, Barton Auxiliary volunteers and employees from The Attic Thrift Store select their favorite holiday and winter donations to sell at the Holiday Faire. Items available for purchase include holiday decorations, jewelry, antiques and collectibles, purses, gifts, and winter wear.

Skiers still waiting for the Big Storm

Even though Mother Nature has been blessing the state of California with plenty of rain, the Sierra Nevada are still in need of a big snow storm to start their way out the drought.

Rain and snow mix in South Lake Tahoe all day Friday has yet to bring in measurable snowfall but snow is still expected through Saturday so there is still a chance.

Holiday in History adds new events for a weekend full of activities

The Lake Tahoe Historical Society invites the community to their annual "Holiday in History" event December 13-14. They will have a Victorian Christmas scene in the museum, free tours of the 1930's log cabin, a special phone with a direct line to the North Pole so kids can talk to Santa, refreshments and free giant snowflakes with qualifying purchases.

They will have both buildings open Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Third annual "Light Up South Lake Tahoe" and community tree lighting

What is becoming a new holiday tradition on the South Shore will be making its way through town on Saturday, December 6.

"Light Up South Lake Tahoe" is a procession through town of lit up city vehicles including a fire truck, police armoured vehicle and city works snow plow. The idea is, as the procession passes by each business they are to turn on their holiday lights.

Time for Barton's Cheeseballs and Holiday Faire

Kick off the holiday season at the 44th Annual Holiday Faire. On Sunday, November 9, community members and visitors of all ages are encouraged to attend this merry event.

Barton Auxiliary volunteers and employees from The Attic, Barton’s thrift store, have selected their favorite holiday and winter donations to sell. Treasures available for purchase will include jewelry, crystal, antiques and collectibles, holiday decorations, winter wear, vintage dolls, purses, and other gift items.

Kick off the holiday season in South Lake Tahoe at the Barton Auxiliary's Holiday Faire at St. Theresa's Parish Hall on November 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stop by and get holiday gifts, decorations, and treats - including the Auxiliary's famous cheese balls - will be for sale. Santa Claus will be there between 10am and 2pm. For more information about the Holiday Faire, call The Attic at 530-541-3378.

Virginia & Truckee Railroad begins ticket sales for The Polar Express train ride

The Virginia & Truckee Railroad will once again offer service to the North Pole onboard THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride starting Nov. 21. The magical story comes to life when the train departs the Carson City Depot on Eastgate Siding Road for a one-hour round trip journey to the North Pole. This event has consistently sold out since debuting four years ago and is expected to draw record numbers again this holiday season.

Not too early to start planning for Tahoe Arts Project Holiday Festival

No, it's not Christmas yet, but its not too early for Tahoe Arts Project to start planning their annual Holiday Festival. They are looking for crafters and artists to fill booths for the two day event on November 15 and 16.

TAP had such a successful event last year that they've expanded it to two days and have opened signups for booth space. The festival also includes food, entertainment and a visit from Santa Claus.

They encourage all types of handmade goods and no imported items are permitted.

18th Annual Holiday Faire at Valhalla

The Valhalla Grand Hall will be decorated in a festive Holiday mode for the 18th Annual Holiday Faire during the weekend of November 22-24.

Twenty-five local vendors and artists will be offering a varied assortment of hand-made and other special items for purchase.

Santa Claus comes to visit as local school choirs and other musical groups perform both days.

Raffle tickets for raffle packages of items donated by the vendors will be available as well as hot mulled wine, hot cider, water, sodas and cookies will be available for purchase.

Six weeks after tickets went on sale, The Polar Express™ has officially sold out, according to the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Lake Tahoe South is New Year’s celebration central with Snow Globe, a three-day outdoor music festival with over 40 world-class musicians on three main stages, firework shows, combined with a myriad of outdoor recreation, entertainment and nightlife, providing action-packed holiday season for kids of all ages.

Tahoe Toy Run

The 21st annual Tahoe Toy Run roll through South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, Oct. 1, The South Lake Tahoe event is a major fundraiser for Christmas Cheer, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing food to needy families and Christmas toys to underprivileged children. Motorcycles will start at the Horizon Casino at Stateline beginning at 10 a.m. and parade down Highway 50, led by Santa Claus, to the Lake Tahoe Airport. Entertainment will include raffle prizes, auction, barbecue, and live music featuring the Cash Only band and Deep Fryed Mojo playing from noon to 8 p.m.
