Expect traffic delays Sunday for Lake Tahoe bike ride
Submitted by Editor on Sat, 06/02/2012 - 3:36amOn Sunday, America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride participants will be riding clockwise around Lake Tahoe and from Tahoe City to Truckee and back to Tahoe City, beginning and finishing at the Horizon Casino Resort at Stateline, South Shore, Lake Tahoe, Nevada from 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.
Lake Tahoe trails workshop on June 7

Nevada Division of State Parks will host a trail workshop to plan the future of trails within Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park. All trail users are encouraged to attend. The goal is to gather ideas and feedback based on the draft map.
The workshop will be on Thursday, June 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Incline Golf Course Chateau located at 955 Fairway Boulevard in Incline Village. Staff from the Tahoe Rim Trail Association and the U.S. Forest Service will also be there to answer questions.
Tahoe Keepers protect Lake Tahoe and other waters from invasive species

Tahoe Keepers are paddlers who inspect and decontaminate their boats and gear every time they haul out and move between new waterbodies.

On Sunday more than, 3,300-plus bicycling enthusiasts from all over the country will participate in the 21st annual America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride around Lake Tahoe.
Pedestrian accident on Highway 50 at Zephyr Cove Lodge ties up traffic
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 05/25/2012 - 3:45pmA pedestrian was reportedly hit by a vehicle at Highway 50 at the Zephyr Cove Lodge at about 3:30 Friday afternoon. The victim was said to be conscious but bleeding from the head. Three vehicles are said to be involved in the accident, according to Douglas County dispatch.
Traffic controls are in place in the westbound lane headed into Lake Tahoe and the eastbound lane of Highway 50 toward Spooner Summit. A CalStar medical helicopter from South Lake Tahoe was unavailable because of snow and visibility. The victim was instead to be transported by ambulance to Barton Memorial Hospital.

Lake Tahoe Roadside Boat Inspection Stations Open for Season

“Boat inspections are critical to maintaining the health of Lake Tahoe and our local recreation-based economy,” said Ted Thayer, TRPA’s Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator. “Through the efforts of the Tahoe Resource Conservation District’s well-trained inspectors and other private and public partners committed to the Lake, we expect to have another successful season.”

In-town public sled hills disappear

And though there are plenty of places to sled and tube around the city limits of South Lake Tahoe, the last of the remaining free places in town have dried up.
And not for a lack of snow, either. Two sled and tube hill favorites have been removed from the public after recent projects leveled some of the property to make way for expansions.
Carry chains for Monday morning Sierra commute

Chains are required on Highway 50 over Echo Summit and chains or snow tires are required over Spooner to Carson City. Chains and snow tires are required on State Routes 28, 88 and 89 and 207 over Kingsbury Grade.

Douglas County man dies in motorcycle crash on Spooner
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 09/12/2011 - 2:54pmA 25-year-old Minden man died Saturday in a motorcycle crash on U.S. Highway 50 east of the Douglas County line on Spooner, seven miles west of Highway 395 in Carson City, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
According to NHP Trooper Chuck Allen, Edwin Bruno-Mazariego was riding his green 2008 Kawasaki ZX600P motorcycle east bound on the four-lane highway. For reasons still unknown, he failed to negotiate a left hand curve and departed the travel lane striking the adjacent section of guardrail.

Fire on Old Clear Creek Road contained; Highway 50 open
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 09/08/2011 - 11:32amUpdate 2 p.m.: Fire crews have contained a fire that broke out this morning near Old Clear Creek Road near the top of Spooner Summit, and Highway 50 has reopened.
The fire was last reported to be about 1.5 acres in size, and there was one home in the area that was threatened. Light winds and cool temperatures helped firefighters get a handle on the blaze, with a helicopter dumping water to help out the hand crews on the ground.

Paddlers Help Protect Lake Tahoe from Invasive Species

Paddlers at Lake Tahoe who enjoy the peace and solitude of skimming over crystal clear waters can now join the Tahoe Keepers stewardship community to protect Lake Tahoe from aquatic invasive species, according to an invasive species multi-agency committee.
Tahoe Keepers is a free training program designed to help non-motorized watercraft operators guard against inadvertently transporting aquatic invasive species to water bodies within the Lake Tahoe Basin by self-inspecting and decontaminating their boats and gear after each use.
