U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): The highway is reduced to one lane in each direction at Bridal Veil Falls for slope repair work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Alder Creek Road: Motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to noon Friday for mudslide removal work.

California Tahoe Conservancy gives over $400k to West Shore forest health

LAKE TAHOE - The California Tahoe Conservancy Board today authorized $414,074 to the California Department of Parks and Recreation for projects that improve forest health and reduce the risk of wildfire at Tahoe State Recreation Area and Ed Z’Berg Sugar Pine Point State Park. The funding is the first allocation of more than $6.8 million in Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act funds awarded to the Conservancy at last year’s Presidential Summit.

Pony Express rider makes his way through South Lake Tahoe

The Pony Express Re-Ride 2017 is almost in the history books. The mochila (mailbag) was transferred to a rider at the Nevada/California state line at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday night. That rider then went down Pioneer Trail to Echo Summit.

Prescribed burns slated to resume in Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The U.S. Forest Service resumed prescribed fire operations today and may continue operations tomorrow, June 14, 2017. If conditions are favorable, operations may take place on Brockway Summit and near Glenbrook. Operations may continue for several days, weather permitting. Highway 50 over Echo Summit reopens with one-way controlled traffic

Caltrans has reopened Highway 50 between Meyers and Placerville with one-way controlled traffic at Alder Creek where a mudslide closed it last night. They originally said all traffic would be rerouted to other highways through Friday evening but crews were able to get it open.

The slope is still not stable and they are working on getting the mud flow stopped.

Popular Rock Tahoe Half Marathon returns for 3rd year

Epic Tahoe Adventures (ETA) is bringing the third annual Rock Tahoe Half Marathon to Lake Tahoe on June 17, 2017. 2,000 runners are expected for the event that takes participants from Spooner Summit to Stateline along Highway 50, past some of the best scenery around.

Over 3,000 family members and friends are expected to join the runners in town for the unique "Run, Rock and Recover" event.

Annual Wagon Train skips South Lake Tahoe this year

For 67 years the annual re-creation of the historic wagon train rides across the Sierra Nevada has gone through South Lake Tahoe as they made their way to Placerville, but this year they are skipping the City.

"Don't take our lanes away" common theme at crowded NDOT meeting

A preliminary step in what will be a multi-year Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) process took place at Zephyr Cove Elementary School Wednesday evening. About double the expected maximum of 120 people crowded the school's multi-purpose room to view and listen to the agency's plans for the stretch of Highway 50 from Stateline to Spooner Summit in Lake Tahoe which is officially called the US50 Lake Tahoe Corridor Safety Improvement.

NDOT holding public meeting about proposed South Shore Hwy 50 changes

There are proposed improvements to Highway 50 from the state line at the South Shore to Spooner Summit, and the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) would like to share ideas and hear your comments. On Wednesday, May 31 there will be a public meeting at the Zephyr Cove Elementary School multi-purpose room located at 226 Warrior Way in Zephyr Cove, with an informational presentation held at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend the open-format meeting at any time between 4 and 7 p.m.

Weather permitting, North Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas fire protection districts, California State Parks, California Tahoe Conservancy, and the U.S. Forest Service may continue prescribed fire operations next week beginning May 15, 2017. If conditions are favorable, operations may take place near Sugar Pine Point, Brockway Summit, Incline Village, Glenbrook, Lower Kingsbury Grade, Ski Run Boulevard, Lake Tahoe Airport, Fallen Leaf Lake and Meyers. Operations may continue over the next several weeks, weather permitting.

Volunteer paints over unsightly graffiti in Meyers

A long-time local tired of graffiti problem on the the old and abandoned Tveten property at the bottom of Echo Summit today grabbed a paintbrush and painted over the graffiti.

The volunteer, who wishes to remain anonymous, went to Meek's in Meyers for the needed supplies. The lumber store gave one gallon of paint for free and gave the rest of the supplies at cost.

"I was sick and tired of looking at it every day," said the volunteer.

The property is currently owned by Sarbjit Singh Kang and one of his business names, Tahoe 3208 Highway 50 Corp.

Construction projects around Lake Tahoe mapped out

With the launch of an revamped TahoeRoads.com, the public now has information needed to navigate the roads around Lake Tahoe on both sides of the state line during a road work season that has major projects planned.

Chain controls go up in Sierra as Winter Weather Advisory issued

Lake Tahoe is seeing the winter that keeps on giving into spring. It has been snowing in South Lake Tahoe since about 3:00 p.m. and conditions on area roads are not good for travelers over the Sierra.

Viewing guide for Amgen women's races around Lake Tahoe

On Thursday and Friday, May 11 and 12, over 120 of the world's elite cyclists will descend upon Lake Tahoe for Amgen Breakaway from Heart DiseaseTM Women’s Race empowered with SRAM. The race presenter AEG, the world’s leading sports and live entertainment company, created routes that will challenge these top female cyclists. They will vie for the coveted jersey during the four-day race. After Lake Tahoe they head to Elk Grove on May 13, and the finale in Sacramento on MMay 14.

Lake Tahoe roadside boat inspection stations open for season

Boating season in Lake Tahoe is here, and with it comes the return of roadside stations that will inspect and decontaminate motorized boats and watercraft heading to the lake.

All motorized watercraft require inspection for aquatic invasive species (AIS) prior to launching into Lake Tahoe, Fallen Leaf Lake and Echo Lake. Invasive species, such as quagga mussels, New Zealand mudsnails, and hydrilla, are known to multiply quickly and colonize underwater surfaces, including docks and piers, water supply and filtration systems, buoys, moored boats, and even the beautiful rocky shoreline.

Widespread fire operations to continue in Lake Tahoe Basin

North Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas fire protection districts, California State Parks, and the U.S. Forest Service are planning to continue prescribed fire operations next week beginning May 1. If conditions are favorable operations will take place in the following areas:

A) Glenbrook Area - 30 acres
B) Lower Kingsbury Area - 5 acres
C) Upper Jennifer/Tyner Area - 32 acres
D) Sugar Pine - 5 acres
E) Highway 50 and Logan Creek - 50 acres
F) SR89 and Grass Lake/ Luther Pass - 30 acres
G) SR89 and Fallen Leaf Lake Road - 40 acres
H) SR267/Brockway Summit - 40 acres

2017 Regional Transportation Plan approved

Stateline, Nevada – The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board on Wednesday unanimously approved the 2017 Regional Transportation Plan, Linking Tahoe. The long-term transportation plan is reviewed and updated every four years as a blueprint to prioritize investments to improve Lake Tahoe’s transportation system over the next 20-plus years.

NDOT reschedules SR28 restriping project - slated to start Thursday

Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has rescehduled their restriping project on State Route 28 at Lake Tahoe again, and have moved it up to Thursday, April 27 and Friday, April 28. Motorists can expect travel delays.

Reduced speed limits and travel delays of up to 30 minutes should be anticipated between approximately 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day. The mobile road striping operation is scheduled to begin at the State Route 28/U.S. 50 Spooner junction and move westward to the Nevada-California state line.

Volunteers sought for Amgen Women's Race in Lake Tahoe

The committee organizing Amgen Breakaway from Heart DiseaseTM Women's Race empowered with SRAM at Lake Tahoe, May 11-12 is looking for volunteers to help out in several areas.

Positions include course marshals, security and check-in. Marshals assist race staff and local law enforcement authorities along the route monitoring pedestrian traffic, road closures, and updating spectators as the race progresses. No experience is necessary.

Chase that started on Spooner Summit ends in downtown Carson City crash

12:30 p.m. update - The driver was identified as Jesus Herrarea-Casas from South Lake Tahoe. He was placed under arrest and taken to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office for booking on charges of Eluding Police, Reckless driving, Disregard Traffic control device(s), Speeding, and driving without a valid license. He may also be charged with DUI, pending the test results according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Herrarea-Casas made it all the way to downtown Carson City before a Nevada Highway Patrol Sergeant decided that the pursuit had to end due to the danger it created for the public.

Highway 50 over Echo Summit reopens after snow slide

A snow slide about 4-5 feet deep and over 30 feet wide went over Highway 50 at Echo Summit, closing the road for over an hour as crews cleaned it up.

At 10:15 a.m. this morning, the slide was reported, at at noon the road at the summit has reopened. Several cars had to be turned around so they could return to Meyers as crews made their way to clear the snow.

The public is invited to an Electric Vehicle Summit sponsored by Liberty Utilities at the North Lake Tahoe Events Center on Monday, April 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The summit will include displays of two Tesla vehicles, a Proterra 40-foot electric bus and a ChargePoint EV charging station.

Kingsbury Grade closed indefinitely after rocks and dirt slide onto road

4:15 p.m. update: Kingsbury Grade (State Route 207) will remain closed indefinitely on the Carson Valley side of the road as the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) continues safety evaluation and removal of major rockfall.

The highway was closed early Friday afternoon as NDOT and contractor Q&D Construction removed loose trees and earth from a roadside slope to help reduce rock and mud fall onto the highway. The slope had slid approximately one foot within the past 24 hours, posing the threat of bringing mud, rock and debris across the highway.
