Join a newly formed Senior Kayaking Group for a morning of relaxing paddling at 8:00 a.m on Thursday, June 24 at Kiva Beach in South Lake Tahoe, and continue weekly on Thursdays all summer.

This is not a business or tour so no equipment is available at the site - bring your own.

The group plans on paddling for four miles (about two hours). They have formed in order to kayak safely with others.

TAMBA announces 9th annual Tahoe Mountain Bike Festival

Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association (TAMBA) announced the 9th Annual Tahoe Mountain Bike Festival, this year a virtual event, to take place on Saturday, June 26. The event will be primarily online in response to evolving local and state large gathering guidelines. Anybody who enjoys Tahoe trails is encouraged to register for the event; all proceeds go to the building and maintenance of multi-use trails in the Lake Tahoe area.

Optimist Club hosts annual Fishing Derby in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club's annual Dale Sare Memorial fishing Derby at Sawmill Pond will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

This event is free for all children 14-years-old and younger.

Fishing tackle and bait are available for free, or participants can bring their own. There will be some experts on hand to provide guidance on how to catch the best fish.

Optimists will be serving free hot dogs and lemonade to the kids. There will also be raffle prizes for participants!

Tahoe Bike Challenge starts June 1; Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition clean-up activities planned

The 16th annual Tahoe Bike Challenge begins June 1 for a full month of biking excitement throughout Lake Tahoe. Hosted by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition, the Tahoe Bike Challenge is a basin-wide celebration of biking and friendly competition to see who can record the most rides. Riders will compete for bragging rights and prizes from local businesses.

Summer operation schedules announced for Heavenly, Kirkwood and Northstar

Summer operations are about to get underway at the Lake Tahoe area Vail Resort properties - Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California Resort, and Kirkwood Mountain Resort.

Circumnavigate Lake Tahoe in 7 days via canoe, kayak or SUP for science

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Join Scott Fitzgerrell and UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center Director Geoff Schladow as they lead a kayak expedition around Lake Tahoe in support of the Citizen Science Tahoe app June 21-27, 2021.

Paddlers will travel counterclockwise in 6-10 mile segments to circumnavigate the lake over seven days. ​You are welcome to join for as many days as you are able. Paddleboards and canoes are also welcome.

Public invited to virtual field tour of Johnson Meadow Restoration Project

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Tahoe Resource Conservation District (TRCD) is inviting the community to attend a virtual field tour for the Johnson Meadow Restoration Project on August 18 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

TRCD acquired the Johnson Meadow property in 2018. The 206-acre meadow, located along Upper Truckee River in the heart of South Lake Tahoe, provides valuable habitat and ecosystem services as well as community open space for all the residents and visitors of South Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe Fund grant helps TAMBA get started on Tyrolian Trail construction

A $45,000 grant from the Tahoe Fund has allowed the nonprofit Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association (TAMBA) to begin a trail improvement project that will reconstruct sections of the Upper Tyrolian Trail in Incline Village. The project is designed to enhance the user experience, make critical trail connections, rehabilitate and restore old logging roads to reduce erosion and improve lake clarity. It is expected to be completed by the end of October 2020.

Dog Trails Talk at SLT Library

Annual SLTWYC community sailing clinic in South Lake Tahoe

Join Tahoe Climbing Coalition at Eagle Lake trail clean up

To celebrate the beginning of climbing season the Tahoe Climbing Coalition is sponsoring a garbage and micro-trash pick-up on the Eagle Lake trail on National Trails Day, Saturday, June 1 at 10:00 a.m.

Come with water (reusable bottle), sun protection and gloves, and they'll provide the rest. They will be meeting at the parking lot/trailhead of Eagle Falls.

The clean-up will be followed up with a crag meet-up at the 90-foot wall.

If you choose to park in the parking lot at Eagle Falls bring $5 exact change for parking. There is limited parking along SR89 outside the parking lot.

14th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival

Each year, they choose powerful environmental and adventure films so people are inspired to take further action regarding issues that impact the environment, ourselves and our world. This year they are showing a series of short films that will not only inspire kids but adults as well.

Opening dates announced for USFS recreational spots around Lake Tahoe

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - The snow is melting and temperatures are rising, signaling the change of seasons in Lake Tahoe, and the opening of campgrounds, beaches and other recreational areas.

The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) will soon begin the process of opening their facilities in the Lake Tahoe Basin, weather and snow conditions permitting,

The first two beaches to open will be Baldwin and Nevada with an opening date planned for this Saturday, April 27, 2019.

TRPA: What's new for the 2019 Lake Tahoe boating season

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – New boating safety programs are coming online at Lake Tahoe this summer, according to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA).

Additional enforcement of no-wake zones and excessive boat noise under TRPA’s Shoreline Program are two measures being taken to protect the lake and non-motorized watercraft and swimmers. Boat inspections fees are also being adjusted for the first time in seven years to better safeguard the lake from aquatic invasive species, and sticker fees now include a $12 fee as part of the Shoreline Program.

Cross-country skiing returns to Spooner Lake State Park

Once again, Spooner Lake State Park offers outdoor sports enthusiasts a system of meandering cross-country ski trails that wind through dense forest, across an open meadow and along the banks of Spooner Lake.

This trail system is free to the public and made possible by a partnership between Nevada State Parks and Nevada Nordic, a non-profit group based in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

The scenic, intermediate trail includes several teardrop loops with flat rolling terrain, which makes it great for both families and experienced skiers. For current trail conditions visit nevadanordic.org.

Free Nordic skiing back at Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Through a private-public partnership, California State Parks and the Sierra State Parks Foundation successfully brought back free Nordic skiing at Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park along Lake Tahoe’s West shore.

The public can ski on the trails made famous when the 1960 Winter Olympics’ biathlon and cross-country events were held there, designed at the time by South Lake Tahoe's Martin Hollay.

There have been various threats to the continued grooming of the cross-country ski trails at Sugar Pine Point due to funding shortages.

Free camping and hot springs soak for volunteers at Grover Hot Springs

California State Park Champions volunteer across the state from the ocean to the mountains, and an opportunity is heading to the Sierra at Grover Hot Springs on April 20, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Help with fire prevention projects by removing invasive weeds that push out the park's native plants and increase fire risks in the park. Volunteers 12 and older welcome (minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian).

After volunteering, enjoy a soak in the park's hot springs pool. Free camping is available for registered volunteers Friday and Saturday nights.
