EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - CalFire has opened the residential burn season for the Amador-El Dorado Unit. Homeowners in the unincorporated areas of El Dorado County may get a Residential Burn permit starting May 1. No matter when you got your last burn permit, you will need to get a new one in 2024. They are free of charge and can be obtained at https://burnpermit.fire.ca.gov/. Burn permits must now be obtained online - submit the application and watch a short educational video.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - In 1946, almost 100 years after the first cry of "Gold" echoed around the world, residents in El Dorado County started thinking about recreating a wagon train to commemorate the valiant struggles of the early emigrants who found their way to their homes in California via the old "Roaring Road."

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - On Sunday, March 10, 2024, an unidentified male and female suspect allegedly sold a stolen white 2021 Toyota 4Runner to a resident of Douglas County. The Toyota was stolen in Reno, Nevada, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for assistance in identifying these individuals. The female suspect has a distinct tattoo on the right side of her forehead which reads “mike.”

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - As humans, we are innately fascinated with the natural world and often spend time and money to view the strength and resiliency of wildlife. We have zoos, safaris, wildlife excursions, and more dedicated to viewing wildlife. Those serve as excellent ways for education and conservation but people in the wild to get photos with bears and other wildlife are not conducive to successful interactions.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) reminds residents, property owners, and project managers that the grading and digging season for permitted projects in the Lake Tahoe Basin begins May 1.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) held a promotion ceremony on April 29 to celebrate the promotion of two of their staff.

The California Tahoe Conservancy invites the public to review its draft 2024–2029 Strategic Plan and provide comments. Over the past year, the Conservancy has developed this draft plan based on input from its Board, partners, and the public. Public input will help strengthen the plan.

The next regular meeting of the Nevada State Legislative Committee for the Review and Oversight of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and the Marlette Lake Water System will be held Friday, May 3 at 1 p.m. in the Trepp Room at Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation, Incline Village, Nevada.

This committee of the Nevada Legislature meets several times every other year during the state’s interim session to discuss the work of TRPA and Nevada state agencies in the Lake Tahoe Basin and to provide oversight on issues important to Nevada citizens.

To the Editor; I thought I would have my doctor for a long time. I did not know that a state line would be the reason I was torn from her. I am writing this because it is not just myself that is feeling this loss. Every Medi-Cal patient that had a doctor move from Barton Family to Stateline Medical Center is feeling this loss. My doctor knows my medical history and knows me, this relationship has been cultivated over the years. The anxiety, and thinking about having to retrace my medical history and get acquainted with a new doctor is daunting.

The Tahoe Arts Project (TAP) is holding its annual Bert’s Spaghetti Night on May 15, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Join TAP for dinner and support performing arts education in the community.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A fight that started inside Starbucks in the Village Center in South Lake Tahoe led to the arrests of two men, a 34-year-old and a 19-year-old, both out of Gardnerville.

When officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) arrived to the call of a big fight, the two men ran away towards the old Raley's. Witnesses pointed the officers in the direction of the men, both of whom refused to stop.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil's team will be at Lake Tahoe Community College on Tuesday, April 30 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. The mobile office hours allow the public an opportunity to share concerns, issues, and advocacy.

This will also be a chance to receive updates on key issues Alvarado-Gil is tackling at the Capitol in Sacramento.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) recently held a Facility Master Plan Open House to gather information from community members on what they'd like to see at the LTUSD schools and buildings.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The High Sierra Softball League (HSSL) kicked off their season on Sunday, April 21 at Soroptimist Stadium: Home of Girls Softball at the South Tahoe Middle School. Each of the 12 teams was introduced as they entered the field. This year, over 130 girls are playing in the league which is for ages 5-16.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Seasonable temperatures and breezy winds will be in place to start the week off at Lake Tahoe before a dry cold front cools things back down by Wednesday. Temperatures will then quickly rebound to above-average for the second half of the week.

Winds will also see an uptick on Monday and Tuesday with west-northwest breezes developing each afternoon with gusts of 25-35 mph, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. This could create some choppy conditions across area lakes.
