SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Al Tahoe neighborhood is holding a Community Clean-up Day on Saturday, August 5, 2023. It will be a great opportunity to get to know other members of the community who are working hard to keep South Lake Tahoe safer from wildfires.

Refreshments will be provided at 768 Los Angeles Avenue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. You will be able to "meet and greet" the hard-working fire department leaders and chipping crew members, and the Al Tahoe Firewise core team.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Join the Lake Tahoe Historical Society for its final Tahoe History Talks on the Beach of the summer with speaker Toogee Sielsch, our resident urbanized black bear expert. It will be held at Lakeview Commons in South Lake Tahoe on Tuesday, August 1 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - National Night Out is celebrated throughout the country on the first Tuesday in August each year, and that includes South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County which will have their own event.

The community is invited to the TJ Maxx parking lot on Tuesday, August 1 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Members from area law enforcement agencies will be there with booths, information, games, activities, patrol & enforcement vehicles, and much more.

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - The Washoe County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) is investigating the accidental drowning death of a man at Sand Harbor on Friday, July 28.

At approximately 4:10 p.m., WCSO responded to a report of a possible drowning on the east shore of Lake Tahoe.

WCSO Marine 9, North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, U.S. Coast Guard, Sand Harbor Lifeguards, and Nevada State Parks all responded to the area and located an unresponsive adult male subject in the water.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Head out to Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) on Monday, August 7 at 3 p.m. when Saint Mary's College meets the University of San Francisco in a pre-season exhibition game. It will be a great time to watch Division 1 soccer!

Saint Mary's Head Coach Theresa Romagnolo brings the Gaels Women's soccer team to Lake Tahoe for a pre-season team game and retreat.

Coach Romagnolo is the wife of Alex Romagnolo who grew up in South Lake Tahoe before graduating from South Tahoe High and playing soccer at the University of San Diego.

PLACER COUNTY, Calif. – Caltrans is alerting motorists of two separate traffic-interfering projects occurring on highways in the North Lake Tahoe area next week.

Southwest Gas and its contractor, Q&D Construction, continue work on a gas line replacement project on Highway 28 between Tahoe City and Kings Beach.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Construction has begun on a new housing project in South Lake Tahoe behind the Village Shopping Center, home of the now-closed Raley's. The ground has already broken on four homes in the approved first phase and the developer hopes to have 20 total in the project area.

The project is not without controversy as the City of South Lake Tahoe looks to amend its Tourist Core Area Plan to change two lots in the project area from being zoned as Recreation to Tourist Core Mixed-Use Housing to accommodate more of the high-end housing units.

TAHOE CITY, Calif. - Participants of all ages and abilities on wheels are welcome to join Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) as they ride 8 or 28 miles to raise funds for its breast cancer education, prevention, and survivorship programs. While raising funds participants promote the B4BC mission of staying healthy and being active.

Participants can also join in on the fun virtually by cruising down their local trail or path and posting to social media if they can’t make it in person.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The next Tahoe Learning Haven forum for the community will focus on children's health and wellness and includes free school immunizations on Wednesday, August 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There was a joint effort Thursday in South Lake Tahoe to visit homeless camps in a private meadow off of the Upper Truckee River with the intention of offering services to those in need. What the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD), El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO), and El Dorado County Probation found led to the arrest of two people.

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – Clean Up The Lake, renowned for its successful 72 Mile Cleanup project, has announced the inauguration of a revolutionary Environmental Dive Center (EDC) at Lake Tahoe. The EDC will be a hybrid between a conservation dive school and an environmental science center located in the heart of Incline Village, NV. This transformative initiative marks a significant leap in the fight against all litter and aquatic invasive species (AIS) in and around Lake Tahoe.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Tahoe High School (STHS) graduate Nick Sanchez has overcome more than youth should have to, but despite everything, he is on his way to college and playing soccer at the next level. Nick will be playing for the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe (SISLT) has finished the installation of the warning track at Soroptimist Stadium: Home of Girls Softball at the South Tahoe Middle School.

They would like to thank all the donors who made it possible.

SISLT members began their softball field renovation project on this field with a $325,000 contribution and have been managing the upgrades in cooperation with the Lake Tahoe Unified School District to provide girls with Title IX-compliant facilities.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.- Phase 2 of the Pioneer Trail Pedestrian Improvement Project is slated to start in May 2024 and be finished by September 2024. The $4M project will create six-foot Class 2 bike lanes on each side of Pioneer Trail from Ski Run Boulevard to Larch Avenue, with five-foot sidewalks on each side, two 11-foot driving lanes, and a foot of gutters on each side. This project also includes pavement rehabilitation.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - On July 18, 2023, at approximately 1:40 p.m., troopers from the Nevada State Police responded to a crash at the location of US50 at SR28, located in Douglas County, Nevada.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2017 Toyota RAV4 was traveling southbound on SR28, approaching the US50 intersection. An Amador Stage Line passenger bus was traveling westbound on US50 approaching the intersection with SR28.

The Toyota RAV4 failed to stop at the stop sign on SR28 and entered the path of the bus. The front of the bus struck the left side of the Toyota.

RENO, Nev. — Researchers from the University of Nevada, Reno examined misconceptions resulting from the health halo effect and steps to become better-educated consumers. Consumers may not realize they are being impacted by a health halo effect, which creates false perceptions of whether a certain food product is healthy or unhealthy based on factors like keywords used on the product’s labeling or in marketing campaigns.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT) is inviting the kids of the community on Friday, July 28 at 3 p.m. as the Honey Bee Ice Cream truck stops by the club.

BCGLT wants to give all kids the opportunity to enjoy a delicious cold treat!

Instead of collecting at the ice cream truck, donations are being accepted at the front desk or at www.bgclt.org.

The club's goal is to raise $1,000 to cover the cost of the ice cream.

They are located at 1100 Lyons Ave., South Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe Douglas Rotary is now accepting golf foursome signups to play in their popular annual Fun-Raiser Charity Cup Golf Tournament on Sunday, September 17 at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course. For decades the Rotary Club became synonymous with St. Patrick's Day fun with its annual silent auction and celebration. While there won’t be free wine and Irish jigs on the golf course (well unless you feel like dancing of course), the Rotarians have pledged to host a memorable day on the links! The Club will cap off the day with a 19th Hole Awards Happy Hour followed by an End of Summer Weenie Roast. 

After seeing the epic biopic, “Oppenheimer” it becomes plainly clear that the man known as the “Father of the Atomic Bomb” caused just as much of a chain reaction in his personal life after splitting the atom. This is definitely director Christopher Nolan’s best work so far. As a fan of World War II, I feel a little embarrassed I didn’t know more about theoretical physicist Robert Oppenheimer other than he was involved in what was known as the Manhattan Project, which created the first atomic bomb at the Los Alamos laboratories in New Mexico.
