Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Executive Director to Host 'Fireside Chat' at LTCC

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Executive Director, Joanne S. Marchetta, will host a “fireside chat” at Lake Tahoe Community College on Wednesday, February 8 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. on “21st Century Environmentalism and the Regional Plan Update.”

This is the first of two evening talks on how Marchetta is transitioning the Bi-State Agency from its once-needed focus on stopping runaway growth and parcel-by-parcel regulation, to one focused on encouraging 21st century environmentalism. This new direction involves public/private partnerships that will revitalize Tahoe's old built environment, attain thresholds, and transition to more permitting by local governments.

“Today’s challenge is not the issue of growth, but the existing outdated infrastructure polluting Lake Tahoe and contributing to clarity loss,” Marchetta explained. “One emphasis of the Regional Plan Update is on fixing the existing built environment. This means upgrading facilities to install both state-of-the-art water quality treatments as well as other forms of up-to-date conservation measures, while at the same time revitalizing our communities,” she said.

The public is invited to join Ms. Marchetta as she speaks about proposed implementation strategies for 21st century stewardship and the Regional Plan Update. The first talk will take place on Wednesday, February 8 at the Lake Tahoe Community College Board Room from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A second talk will take place later this month on the North Shore, date and time TBA.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency cooperatively leads the effort to preserve, restore, and enhance the unique natural and human environment of the Lake Tahoe Region now and in the future. For additional information, call Kristi Boosman at (775) 589-5230 or send an email to kboosman@trpa.org .
