Lake Tahoe Basin, El Dorado County and Sierra roadwork schedule for May 11-16

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is working on several projects in the Lake Tahoe area as well as El Dorado County and the Sierra.

LONG-TERM PROJECTS

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $5.2 million project to upgrade metal beam guardrail and construct concrete barriers at 89 locations from the Red Hawk Undercrossing to 1.9 miles west of the junction with State Route 89 in Meyers. Completion is expected in late spring 2020. No traffic-interfering work is scheduled.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues an $11.6 million project to replace the U.S. Highway 50 Sawmill (Ridgeway Drive) Undercrossing in Pollock Pines to address the aging bridge deck, improve sight distance, bring the bridge railings up to current design standards and make local road improvements to Ridgeway Drive. Completion is expected by June 2021. Ridgeway Drive under the bridge and the eastbound #2 lane are scheduled to be closed until mid-July.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work has resumed on a $14.1 million project to replace the Echo Summit Sidehill Viaduct, located 7 miles west of South Lake Tahoe. This project is replacing the current bridge, built in 1939, with a new structure to meet current design and safety standards. Completion is expected by this fall. U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work has resumed on a $52.8 million project from the “Y” intersection at State Route 89 to the Trout Creek Bridge in South Lake Tahoe. This project is building new drainage systems to collect and treat stormwater runoff, rebuilding curbs, gutters and sidewalks, widening the highway to allow for bike lanes and resurfacing the roadway. Work is expected to be complete in June.

May 11-15 - U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from B Street to the Trout Creek Bridge: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures at various locations throughout the project from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday for striping work.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County): Work is currently suspended due to COVID-19 on a $6.1 million project to build retaining walls at two locations on State Route 193 between Kelsey Road and Rock Creek Road and to install metal beam guardrail. Work is expected to resume May 18 and be completed in July.

State Route 49 (Placer County) from the I-80/SR 49 interchange to Dry Creek Road: Construction began June 17, 2019 on a $40.5 million project in Auburn. The project will rehabilitate existing pavement and drainage, improve operational features and upgrade pedestrian and bicycle facilities.

May 11 – May 15 - State Route 49 (Placer County) from Nevada Street to Education Street: Motorists may expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday for electrical work.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from the I-80/SR-174 westbound on-ramp to Canyon Way: A $1.8 million Acceleration Lane project in Colfax will create a standard-length westbound acceleration and merge lane to increase the safety and operation of Interstate 80.

May 11 – May 15 - Interstate 80 (Placer County) from the I-80/SR-174 westbound on-ramp to Canyon Way: Westbound motorists can expect intermittent lane, shoulder and on-ramp closures from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for drainage work and pavement striping.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) at the I-80/SR-174 westbound on-ramp: Westbound motorists may expect a full ramp closure from 5 p.m. Tuesday to 3 a.m. Wednesday for guardrail work.

Interstate 80 (Nevada County) from Farad to Acid Flat Bridge: A $12.9 million Farad Ditch Slope Stabilization project will restore the Farad Ditch by extending the collection area. Construction will also include regrading of the slope by means of roadway excavation, rock excavation, and controlled blasting.

May 11 – May 15 - Interstate 80 (Nevada County) from Farad to Acid Flat Bridge: Westbound motorists may expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday for roadway excavation.

SHORT-TERM PROJECTS

State Route 28 (Placer County) from Jeffrey Lane to Center Street: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday for a pavement work.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from Bradley Drive to Fowler Lane: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for electrical work.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from with junction with State Route 193 in Cool to the Placer County line: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday for guard rail repair work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Alder Creek Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for drainage work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Meeks Bay to Sugar Pine State Park: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to 7p.m. Monday through Friday for utility work.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from the El Dorado County line to St. Michael’s Court: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday for tree work.

State Route 20 (Nevada County) from White Cloud Campground to Washington Road: Motorists may expect intermittent, reversing one-way traffic control and shoulder closures from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday for guardrail work.

State Route 20 (Nevada County) from Lowell Hill Road to Zeibright Road: Motorists may expect intermittent, reversing one-way traffic control and shoulder closures from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday for a crack seal operation.

State Route 20 (Placer County) from Zeibright Road to Lane Spaulding Road: Motorists may expect intermittent, reversing one-way traffic control and shoulder closures from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Tuesday for guardrail work.

State Route 49 (Placer/El Dorado Counties) from Borland Street/Lincoln Way to the State Route 193 junction: Motorists may expect intermittent, reversing one-way traffic control and shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday for guardrail repair.

State Route 49 (Nevada County) from Streeter Road to Wolf Road/Combie Road: Motorists may expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 6 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday for electrical work.

State Route 49 (Nevada County) at Tadpole Creek Road: Northbound motorists can expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 6 p.m. to noon Monday through Thursday for electrical work.

State Route 49 (Sierra County) from Downieville to Yuba Pass Road: Motorists can expect intermittent, reversing one-way traffic control and shoulder closures from 6:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday for a crack seal operation.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Rollins Lake Road to the State Route 174 junction: Westbound motorists may expect a full highway closure from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday through Friday for paving work. Westbound detours will be in place at the Interstate 80/State Route 20 junction for commercial and passenger vehicles, and at Secret Town Road for local traffic.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Secret Town to Alta: Eastbound motorists may expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Tuesday for a crack seal operation.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from the Caltrans Whitmore Maintenance Yard to Baxter: Westbound motorists may expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday for tree work.

Interstate 80 (Nevada County) at the Donner Summit Rest Areas: Motorists may expect alternating rest area closures from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday for grinding work.

State Route 89 (Nevada County) from Prosser Hill Road to Sagehen Creek: Motorists may expect intermittent, reversing one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday for a crack seal operation.

State Route 174 (Nevada County) from the Bear River Bridge to Grass Valley: Motorists may expect intermittent, reversing one-way traffic control from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Monday through Thursday for a striping operation.

State Route 174 (Nevada County) from Bar Ela Ranch Road to Dalmatian Drive/Buena Woods Way: Motorists may expect intermittent, reversing one-way traffic control and shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for utility work.

State Route 267 (Nevada County) from Old Broackway Road/Soaring Way to Autumn Way: Motorists may expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for pavement work.
