Lakeside Inn first Lake Tahoe casino to close
Submitted by paula on Tue, 03/17/2020 - 3:57pmSTATELINE, Nev. - Lakeside Inn in Stateline, Nevada became the first South Shore casino to close due to coronavirus COVID-19 concerns.
"This decision was based on concern for the health of our community and of our staff members," said Lakeside Inn President Stacy Noyes. "We decided to take the lead and help our family. It's the responsible thing to do."
All employees not working will get two weeks of pay. Noyes said the situation and decisions are evolving daily and the initial plan is to close for two weeks.

For those wondering about the old Caltrans traffic camera at the Y: it is being replaced and when received there will be a lane closure coordinated for installation.
The camera at the new roundabout in Meyers can be rotated to analyze traffic needs and will not be aimed just at the roundabout for the time being.

16-acre fire along Highway 50 near Shingle Springs closed roadway Wednesday
Submitted by paula on Wed, 08/14/2019 - 3:10pm7:00 p.m. Update: A fire along Highway 50 Wednesday burned 16 acres after being started when a truck towing a trailer caught fire after having a flat tire at 1:21 p.m. The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office evacuated some home in the area when winds took the flames from the highway in towards a neighborhood.
All residents have been allowed to go back home. Firefighters will stay at the scene overnight to patrol and watch for hotspots.

Body of missing El Dorado Hills woman found
Submitted by paula on Wed, 02/20/2019 - 11:58pmEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado Hills woman missing since Valentine's Day was found deceased on Wednesday afternoon.
On February 20, 2019, at about 4:30 p.m., the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office (EDSO) was dispatched to a report of an unresponsive female in a vehicle at a local church parking lot. Fire and medical personnel responded and declared the woman deceased upon their arrival.

The 49-year-old woman was last seen by her daughter on the evening of the 13th and last heard from on the 14th when she made a call from her cell phone to her husband.
Her phone was later found in her home where there was no evidence of foul play at the residence

Small child found asleep in car with hypodermic needles and pill bottles
Submitted by paula on Mon, 11/27/2017 - 9:23pmFour people were arrested by the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) after a child was found asleep in a car full of hypodermic needles and pill bottles at the Red Hawk Casino in Shingle Springs, Calif.
Security officers from the casino noticed the car in their parking structure with the occupants asleep with a child asleep in the back seat. As they looked closer they could also see many hypodermic needles and pill bottles throughout the vehicle and called the deputies.

State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to just north of Granlibakken Road in Tahoe City that is upgrading storm water drainage and treatment systems, adding curb and gutter, resurfacing and realigning the road, adding new left-turn pockets and widening shoulders on an 8-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected by summer 2017.
El Dorado County ranks 5th in State for lethal DUIs
Submitted by paula on Fri, 08/19/2016 - 2:35pmDue to some sobering facts, El Dorado County District Attorney's Office is ramping up efforts in preventing drunk driving.
While the full-time population in the county is fairly small, a large number of visitors increase those numbers during ski season, holidays, gold country and winery visits, gambling at Red Hawk and Stateline, and during trips to Apple Hill.
El Dorado County ranks fifth worst in the state for lethal drunk driving incidents involving drivers between the ages of 21 and 34, and third worst in the state for drunk driving incidents involving drivers under the age of 21.
