Pay it forward day at California Burger in South Lake Tahoe

It is "Pay It Forward Day" once again at California Burger in South Lake Tahoe on Monday, June 12, 2017. All proceeds at the popular restaurant in the Heavenly Village go back to the employees.

This is becoming a recurring event at California Burger. They had Pay it Forward day for the employees in May after the inaugural one in 2016.

"All profits for the day will be given back to the employees," said co-owner Ted Kennedy. "It's their money and they can do with it as they wish, but the hope is that they will use it to help someone less fortunate in their community."

When Kennedy started this, one employee gave their portion to a homeless person while another helped a friend pay rent.

Besides this way of giving back to the community at California Burger, Azul Latin Kitchen, another local restaurant Kennedy is part of, offered those who serve - police officer, firefighters, paramedics/EMTs, nurses and teachers - a free meal on Wednesdays in May. Over at his other restaurant, BaseCamp Pizza, "Local Hero's Day" is every Wednesday, year-round. One free entree to those serving the community in the same positions. All three of three restaurants are in Heavenly Village, South Lake Tahoe.

Kennedy told South Tahoe Now last year that he'd like to see this concept grow in South Lake Tahoe at other businesses.

California Burger is located at 1001 Heavenly Village Way, Ste 2B in South Lake Tahoe. They are open 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m.
