Prep roundup for Whittell and South Tahoe High Schools

The Whittell Warriors Varsity football team improved their record to 8-0 after a double overtime win over Mineral County on Friday night. The Warriors fell behind in the first quarter 22-8 and went into the locker room at half time trailing 44-22. At the end of regulation play the score was tied at 44 after Whittell came back with two touchdown passes by Colin Buchholtz late in the game. Max Primo's 6 yard rushing TD in overtime was followed by a pass by Buccholtz to Armando Rodgriquez for a touchdown put Whittell on the win column with a final score of 56-50.

Whittell is now ranked number seven in the state and moved up 79 spots nationally where they are ranked #460.

Next on tap for the Warriors is Exel Christian out of Sparks, NV. The Whittell home game will start at 6 p.m.

On the other side of the state line the South Tahoe High Vikings didn't fare as well. The Varsity team faced the league's second place team, the Elko Indians. South Tahoe's 28 points wasn't enough to beat a strong Elko team. The final score was 49-28, bringing the Vikings record to 1-7. Next up for them is an away game against the Sparks Railroaders who remain winless. That game is Friday, October 24.

In soccer action, the girls from Whittell are sporting a 10-0 record in league play, 12-1 overall. Their next matchup is on October 21 when they travel to play North Tahoe.

South Tahoe's varsity girls beat a tough Truckee team on Friday by a score of 1-0. They are now 11-0-1 in league, 14-2-1 in league. Their next match is at home against Fernley on October 21.

The JV girl's team from South Tahoe is undefeated in league play with a record of 9-0. They also face Fernley on Tuesday.

A 6-4-1 record is now held by the South Tahoe Varsity boys in Tahoe League soccer. They will travel to Sparks on October 28 for their next match.

In action at the net, the South Tahoe teams are now tied for second (Girls) and in second (Boys). The lady Vikings have a record of 5-2 in league action and the men are at 8-2.
