Thanksgiving at Lake Tahoe's Granlibakken Steeped in Tradition and Outdoor Recreation

Event Date:
November 28, 2013 - 12:00pm

Granlibakken Conference Center & Lodge at Lake Tahoe (http://www.Granlibakken.com) offers a Thanksgiving tradition that celebrates family and friends with a hearty holiday feast around the dinner table and boundless opportunities to work up an appetite or work off the satisfying dinner.

Granlibakken’s Thanksgiving is served family-style and includes all the homemade favorites: roasted turkey carved tableside, mashed potatoes, stuffing, buttered spaghetti squash, candied yams, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and additional desserts. Keeping its European roots and hospitality in mind, the resort will also wrap any leftovers for turkey sandwiches the next day. Vegetarian options are also available.

“It’s more than the meal — it’s all the holiday memories that go along with it that have families returning to Granlibakken for their annual Thanksgiving,” said Kay Williams, general manager. “The lodge experience — both indoors and outdoors — is filled with modern comforts and amenities without ever having to step into the kitchen for a holiday dinner that would rival grandma's.”

Thanksgiving lodging packages start at $150 per night and include the holiday dinner and hot breakfast buffet for up to four. Guests can choose any lodging from rustic lodge rooms, studios and condos from one to five-bedrooms. Prices vary with room type.

If it’s just a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with leftovers for non-hotel guests can join the group celebration for $40; $20 for children 12 years and older and 11 years and younger.

Guests can work up an appetite outdoors at Granlibakken’s Treetop Adventure Park, recently voted No. 1 Tahoe Activity by TripAdvisor.com. Set 30 feet off the ground, the ropes course and zip line will be open Thanksgiving week (weather permitting) and throughout the winter season. Fully harnessed guests can zip, climb, walk and maneuver their way through a number of obstacles, each with varying degrees of skills and challenges.

The Treetop Adventure Park complements the resort’s other outside adventure amenities including cross country and snowshoe trails. Granlibakken’s heated outdoor pool, hot tub, sauna and a full-service spa are all surrounded by 74 acres of trees in a quiet valley setting.

With the ski and snowboard season approaching, Granlibakken has partnered with several popular ski resorts – including Squaw Valley USA, Northstar California, Alpine Meadows, Homewood Mountain Resort, Sugar Bowl, Mt. Rose, Heavenly and Sierra-at-Tahoe – with ski and lodging packages starting at $157 mid-week.

When the snow flies and piles high, Granlibakken will open its own ski, snowboard and sledding hill and Tahoe Cross Country Center where guests can cross-country ski and snowshoe through miles of historic trails with convenient on-site equipment rentals.

The package lift ticket is also exchangeable for a $60 credit for on-site amenities at the Day Spa or the Tahoe Cross Country Center.

Granlibakken Day Spa has a menu of wellness packages including therapeutic massage, skin care, spa manicures, pedicures, holistic body treatments, body waxing and health consultations from a staff of professional therapists.

The resort hosts other holiday events as well. The Christmas Eve Torchlight Parade includes a visit from Santa with gifts, cookies and hot chocolate for the kids, a popular Christmas buffet dinner and New Year’s Eve party for guests.

Home to the 1932 Olympic ski jumping trials, Granlibakken maintains its rustic charm while blending tradition, technology and convenience with free Wi-Fi throughout the resort and ground transportation from Reno-Tahoe International Airport.
