Music Festivals, Entertainment and Fireworks on tap over holidays at South Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe South is New Year’s celebration central with Snow Globe, a three-day outdoor music festival with over 40 world-class musicians on three main stages, firework shows, combined with a myriad of outdoor recreation, entertainment and nightlife, providing action-packed holiday season for kids of all ages.
The inaugural Snow Globe Music Festival line-up includes Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, Thievery Corporation, The Glitch Moto, Childish Gambino and 35 additional bands at the Lake Tahoe Community College, December 29-31. The festival will ring in the New Year with a fireworks display. Party goers can hit the slopes by day and shows by night with the concert locations just three miles from Stateline. Traditional local celebrations include the annual Community Winter Tree Lighting, Friday, Dec. 2, 5 – 7 p.m. at the City of South Lake Tahoe Senior Citizens Center. Activities include free Borges Sleigh Rides, holiday carols by the Tahoe Schools Choir, free CFL light bulb giveaways from Liberty Energy, Victorian ornaments displays, a Menorah lighting and a food and toy drive benefiting Christmas Cheer, Tahoe’s local food bank. Santa photos are available at the Senior Center and inside the Museum. The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority will offer complimentary hot chocolate, cider and cookies inside the Senior Citizens Center. Barton Health’s Festival of Trees & Lights is Dec. 2 – 4 at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa. The 3rd annual festival features designer decorated trees, holiday décor, crafts for kids, live entertainment and of course Santa Claus www.festivaloftreeslaketahoe.org
The 10th annual Tahoe Adventure Film Festival offers gnarly footage as “all-risk” describes the fast paced, high energy that premieres, Saturday, Dec. 10 at MontBleu. www.laketahoefilmfestival.com.
The Tahoe Queen, an authentic Mississippi paddlewheeler, is offering opportunities to meet and take photos with Santa on the 12 p.m. Saturday cruises. Holiday Party Dinner cruises with live music are available Fridays and Saturdays in December departing at 6 p.m. from Ski Run Marina.
Holidays on the Slopes
New this season is Heavenly Holiday with a month of festivities including live music, ice sculpting, fire dancers, professional ice skaters, face painting, interactive games and photo opportunities inside a giant snow globe or festive backdrops. “A Heavenly New Year Celebration” includes a concert followed by the Gondola Drop with a decorated and illuminated car descending from the top of the mountain in a “midnight” countdown at 9 p.m. and firework display www.skiheavenly.com.
Heavenly’s Tamarack Lodge, located at the top of the Gondola, is offering all season-long Apres Ski Parties on weekends and holidays with live music, food and drink specials and extended hours.
