El Dorado County senior nutrition program offers drive-up meal service
Submitted by paula on Wed, 04/22/2020 - 11:15amEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - With the Governor’s orders to stay-at-home and older adults in the high-risk group for COVID-19, the El Dorado County Senior Nutrition program has made some adjustments to its program.
The South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, along with others in the county are offering drive-up "Take-Out" meals for all El Dorado County residents age 60 and older. This gives its older adult clients the needed hearty and nutritional meals in a safe environment.
COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe and surrounding counties
Submitted by paula on Tue, 04/21/2020 - 5:35pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County is reporting one new case of COVID-19. A woman in the 50-64-year-old age group from El Dorado Hills tested positive on Tuesday, April 21.
This brings the total number of cases in El Dorado County to 39. Three more people have recovered from the virus, bringing that total to 34. Thirty more people were tested for coronavirus today. To date, 1,620 people have been tested with 1,581 negative or pending.
The Lake Tahoe region of the County (Kyburz to South Lake Tahoe, Meyers to Tahoma) has 13 cases.

Passing by people in the aisles, touching food items that have possibly been touched by many other people, and navigating the checkout line could all increase your risk of exposure to COVID-19 and at the very least, cause extra stress. Fortunately, many local retailers are offering online ordering, curbside pick-up, and even grocery delivery.
Full closure of US50 over Echo Summit planned for June
Submitted by paula on Tue, 04/21/2020 - 4:09pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Work on US50 over Echo Summit to replace an 81-year-old bridge has resumed. The $14.1 million Echo Summit Sidehill Viaduct Replacement Project will replace the bridge with a structure that meets current seismic and safety standards.
Travelers can expect daytime work with one-way reversing traffic now, with around-the-clock one-way traffic control from May 26 until May 31, then full closure from June 1 until about June 14.
Caltrans and its contractor expect work to be completed this year.

On the agenda includes discussion on how to handle to park now that it is the season it normally opens, but with COVID-19 they will decide if it should be a soft closure or hard closure, or if it should open.

Two new cases of COVID-19 in Lake Tahoe region of El Dorado County
Submitted by paula on Mon, 04/20/2020 - 4:21pmEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - There have been two new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County, both in the Lake Tahoe region which includes Meyers and South Lake Tahoe.
One male, one female in the 18-49-year-old range were confirmed over the weekend. Their ages dropped the median age of positive cases from the age of 49 to 47.
This brings the total positive tests in the county to 38.
The county reports 130 new tests administered, and no new recoveries. To date, 1,590 tests have been administered with 1,552 coming back as negative or are pending.
Reopening plans underway for South Lake Tahoe once given the state and county go ahead
Submitted by paula on Sun, 04/19/2020 - 9:06pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In less than 90 days life has changed in South Lake Tahoe, California and the United States. The West caught up quickly to the novel coronavirus pandemic that was first contracted by a human in China on November 17, 2019.
Scientists and doctors pled for the public to stay home to keep the virus from spreading, and that plea worked better in some areas than others.

El Dorado County supervisors add $1,000 fine for vacation home rental use in Lake Tahoe Basin
Submitted by paula on Sat, 04/18/2020 - 5:24pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to issue citations to anyone violating the ban on nonessential travel in the Lake Tahoe Basin as it pertains to the use of vacation home rentals (VHRs).
Anyone found using a VHR is subject to a $1,000 fine per day of violation.
USFS closures at spots around Lake Tahoe, not just SR89 corridor

They said the closures were to keep in alignment with current federal, state and local guidance for social distancing and to ensure the health and safety of its employees, visitors, and volunteers.

"I am still feeling the warmth from Wednesday night’s Tahoe Supports Tahoe Live Stream Benefit Concert," said Tahoe Magic Co-Founder Wendy David. "Thanks to the musicians who donated their talent and time, and to the promotion efforts just ahead of the concert, we received 88 separate donations totaling $15,290.35 just during the 24 hours of April 15."

In a 3-2 vote, the commissioners approved bond issuance, the final step in the approval process. The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) had previously unanimously approved it.

Barton Health community update: Patient surge planning almost complete

End of an era: Lakeside Inn to close permanently

Poor response rate and COVID-19 concerns prompt extension of Census deadlines

Over 70 million households have responded to date, representing over 48 percent of all households in America.
The California response rate is a bit higher at 49.2 percent and 48.3 perfect of Nevadans have replied.

Campfire and smoking restrictions in Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest

The Humboldt-Toiyabe will enact fire restrictions prohibiting campfires and smoking outside of vehicles starting on April 15 and going until May 31, or until rescinded.

Lake Tahoe area COVID-19 updates: Two new cases in El Dorado County

These new figures bring a total of 34 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county, ten of those on the East Slope (including South Lake Tahoe and Meyers).
On April 3, the South Lake Tahoe region had nine confirmed cases with one being adding and dropped due to error over a week ago.
El Dorado County reports 23 recoveries to date and 1,250 tests taken.

Barton Hospital prepared for an anticipated surge in COVID-19 cases

Submitted by paula on Fri, 04/10/2020 - 4:44pmEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Department of Health and Human Services is reporting two new positive cases of COVID-19 in the area, both in El Dorado Hills. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 32.
The County is also reporting confirmed cases now on their daily report. There have been 16 residents who have recovered from COVID-19, to date.
According to the report, 1,125 tests have been made on residents, with 1,093 of them negative or still outstanding.
South Lake Tahoe has 9 confirmed cases of the virus.
Tahoe Transportation District rolls out fare-free transit

While they already had plans in place for a free system to help eliminate traffic, the rollout is sooner than expected in order to make travel safer in response to COVID-19 by eliminating fare exchanges between drivers and riders.
Tahoe Douglas Rotary donates $20,000 to local nonprofits amidst COVID-19 emergency

National map shows local areas perform well in social distancing efforts

Overall, residents are abiding by the states' "stay at home" ordering and leaving home to work at essential jobs and for essential needs such as food.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) is one that is expanding virtual services with the building season ahead to protect both staff and customers.

For the first time, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has wrapped a car with blue puzzle pieces as an inviting way for children and adults with autism to meet police officers in a casual setting.

Special South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting Wednesday

There will be no formal action on the first item. They will be discussing their newly appointed Transformational Change Committee which is comprised of Councilmembers Cody Bass and Devin Middlebrook.
At their meeting last week, the council created two other committees as well that will address the response and recovery to the COVID-19 crisis:

Shingle Springs, Rescue, Cameron Park - 3
North County - 2
The South Lake Tahoe region includes Meyers, South Lake Tahoe, to north of Meeks Bay.
Of the 849 tests, 683 have come back as negative.

South Lake Tahoe's Bread & Broth seeks volunteers as needs increase

They provide food on Monday and Friday evenings, and, since 2015, weekend food bags for K-8 Lake Tahoe Unified School District students.
