Thunderbird Lodge at Lake Tahoe among several Nevada Tourism grant winners
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 6:45pmNeeded improvements at the Thunderbird Lodge got a lift on Wednesday when the Nevada Commission on Tourism announced the Lake Tahoe site was among several to win an improvement project grant.
Grants were awarded to 19 different projects. The announcement was made by Nevada Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki.
NCOT's Projects Relating to Tourism Grants program help fund infrastructure improvements that will attract visitors, and after a temporary suspension due to a decline in tourism revenues, the grants were reinstated this year.

Rural Economic Activity Boosts Nevada Taxable Sales By 7.2 Percent In March
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 05/29/2012 - 9:15pmCARSON CITY — Nevada’s taxable sales jumped 7.2 percent in March over March 2011, but the state’s two largest urban counties showed more sluggish growth, the state Department of Taxation reported Tuesday.
Taxable sales totaled $3.9 billion in March, driven by Nevada’s rural counties where large energy and mining projects helped boost the numbers overall. For the fiscal year to date, statewide taxable sales are up 7.5 percent.
Nevada committee declares counties in various drought stages
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 05/24/2012 - 2:09pmRENO — Nevada’s Drought Response Committee has announced all Nevada counties as being on either drought alert or drought watch with 11 counties classified by the U.S. Drought Monitor as under severe drought and six counties under moderate drought. The committee is organizing and activating three regional task forces to address the drought impacts in local and regional areas to begin gathering information about local plans, needs, vulnerabilities and available resources.
Memorial Saturday for legendary broadcaster, hellraiser and satirist Travus T. Hipp
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 05/24/2012 - 12:59pmServices for legendary radio commentator Travus T. Hipp will be held this Saturday, May 26, in Silver City. Hipp died early Friday morning, May 18, at his Silver City home. He was 75, as old as the Golden Gate Bridge in his beloved San Francisco.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 26, in Silver City. Gathering, gnoshing and remembering will begin at the Silver City Community Center, 385 High Street, at 10:00 a.m. Food and refreshments will be provided. Those who wish may bring more.

Nevada’s Jobless Rate Shrinks Again In February But News Not All Good
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 03/30/2012 - 12:26pmCARSON CITY – Nevada’s unemployment rate fell four-tenths of a percentage point in February to a seasonally adjusted 12.3 percent, but the news is not all positive, a state agency reported today.
Bill Anderson, chief economist with the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR), said an argument can be made that the forces behind the drop in the jobless rate were signs of weakness.

According to the National Weather Service, Floods and Flash Floods are the #1 weather-related killer in the United States and can occur any time of the year. This is why the Nevada Division of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service Offices in Reno, Las Vegas, and Elko want to help spread the word about being flood safe.
Nevada’s Unemployment Rate Falls To 12.7 Percent In January But Jobs Picture Remains Mixed

The number of unemployed Nevadans remained relatively flat at 174,700, but is down 16,300 from the same month last year.

AAA: Gas prices soar 15 cents in Northern California and Nevada

In Northern California the average for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.83; the average price in Nevada for is $3.51.

Gaming win in January up for Tahoe, statewide
Submitted by admin on Thu, 02/09/2012 - 1:10pmGaming win statewide was up just over 2 percent in January compared to the prior year, according to the monthly Nevada Gaming Control report.
For the fiscal year, the state is up 1.24 percent over the prior year.
South Lake Tahoe say its gaming win jump 6 percent in January and 6.63 percent for the fiscal year, despite the lack of snow to draw in skiers to the area.
The Carson Valley area that includes Carson City was up almost 5 percent. For the fiscal year, the area is still down 1.5 percent.
