Overnight closures of SR28 for final roadway striping near Incline Village
Submitted by paula on Sat, 06/15/2019 - 5:55pmOvernight road closures will take place on State Route 28 south of Incline Village June 17 and 18 as the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) places final roadway striping as part of the installation of the State Route 28 shared used path.
Both directions of SR 28 will be closed between Lakeshore Boulevard in southern Incline Village and the U.S. 50 junction from 8:00 p.m.-6:30 a.m. nightly June 17 and 18 as final roadway striping is placed on the highway.
Free food for South Lake Tahoe youth all summer with Bread & Broth 4 Kids program
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/14/2019 - 2:53pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - For the third consecutive summer, the St. Theresa Bread & Broth 4 Kids Summer Program will provide weekly food bags for South Lake Tahoe youth until school resumes in August. During the school year more than 2,000 local students receive free or reduced cost meals at breakfast and lunch, but that program doesn't cover weekends or summers and that is where Bread & Broth 4 Kids (BB4K) comes in. In the 2018-19 school year, BB4K supplied over 180 bags of food each Friday to local youth and last summer 225 bags of food were given away each week.
Record number of youth participate in Zephyr Cove tennis clinic
Submitted by paula on Mon, 06/10/2019 - 10:34pmZEPHYR COVE, Nev. – A record number of youth participated in the annual free tennis clinic at the Zephyr Cove Tennis Club on June 8. The 66 young players were guided by a team of seasoned players on the fundamentals of the sport.
Not only did the kids get to take away new tennis skills, but they also left with a shirt or towel that was donated by Vail Resorts, the parent company of Heavenly Mountain Resort.
Head pro Dave Nostrant orchestrated the various drills going on at each court, with club members assisting with instruction.

The Tahoe Fund is partnering with members of the South Lake Tahoe Community to bring 40 new Specialized mountain bikes, helmets and mountain bike coaching to youth at the Lake Tahoe Boys & Girls Club, SOS Outreach, and the South Lake Tahoe Middle School. The bikes will provide kids greater access to trails in Tahoe and the nearby Bijou Bike Park.

Lead changes as Amgen Tour of California heads into final stage

First-timers to this race, Pogacar and 21-year-old Sergio Higuita battled to the steep summit finish atop Southern California’s Mt. Baldy, with the EF Education First Pro Cycling Columbian rider slipping into second place for the stage after a wide turn to the finish gave the younger rider clearance to the line.

With just meters to go, Deceuninck – Quick-Step’s Fabio Jakobsen (NED) rocketed past both to claim the team’s third stage in three days. A weather pattern more typical of early March rather than mid-May came into the Lake Tahoe basin overnight, leaving behind a dusting of snow at lake level. This unusual and persistent weather pattern will continue to send cold Pacific storms into California and Nevada through next week. Expect periods of rain, mountain snow, and strong gusty winds.

The roadway closure allowed for installation of pre-fabricated bridge decks on the three-plus mile shared-use path under construction between southern Incline Village and Sand Harbor State Park.
Both directions of SR 28 were closed overnight on May 14 and crews had planned to work to continue overnight May 15 but that has been canceled.
Amgen Stage 3: France's Cavagna finishes almost 1.5 hours of next rider
Submitted by paula on Tue, 05/14/2019 - 9:48pmFor the second day in a row, a Deceuninck – Quick-Step cyclist claimed his first WorldTour stage win at the Amgen Tour of California, with 23-year-old French rider Rémi Cavagna spending hours on a solo ride several minutes ahead of the peloton.
About an hour into the race day, a breakaway including the USA Cycling National Team’s reigning U.S. U23 National Champion Alex Hoehn (Lenexa, Kansas) and Cavagna (FRA) built their lead to over 10 minutes and ended up spending 100 miles out front of the peloton.

At the end of the day Kasper Asgreen from Denmark, who rides for Belgium's Deceuninck – Quick – Step, is wearing the green leader jersey. Asgreen finished first, 6 hours, 17 minutes and 11 seconds after leaving Rancho Cordova.

Allison was an accomplished sailor spending almost every weekend during her early high school years sailing to Catalina Island.

19th annual Snapshot Day to unveil conditions in Lake Tahoe and Truckee River

It is a bi-state collaborative that can achieve a larger watershed approach to successful data collection.
On May 17 and 18, 2019, volunteers will once again head out and perform a variety of tests including temperature, pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, algae, and nitrogen.

She is replacing Nadia Guerriero who moved to Vail's Beaver Creek Resort as their new vice president and chief operating officer.

Not only will CalTrans have three major projects on Highway 50 between Echo Summit and Al Tahoe Boulevard, but the City of South Lake Tahoe will have their own road projects going on at Sierra Boulevard and Gardner Mountain.
It truly will be a six-month-long "Road Construction Season."

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Long has been the joke that there are two seasons in Lake Tahoe, winter and roadwork. Both are holding up true for 2019 as we leave a long and heavy winter and prepare for several road construction projects.
On Wednesday, April 24, CalTrans is inviting the public to come out and learn about their three projects scheduled to begin on US 50 in the Lake Tahoe Basin this summer. The public meeting will be in the South Tahoe High School Student Union from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Submitted by paula on Sun, 04/14/2019 - 6:17pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Ever-changing weather for the Lake Tahoe Basin is a normal spring pattern though most are hoping with more sun and less snow and rain. This week will be much of the same.
Active spring weather returns to start the new week with a pair of storms set to make impacts to most of the region. Gusty southwest winds, valley rain, and mountain snow are expected through Tuesday. Sunshine and warmer temperatures return for the second half of next week as high pressure moves in according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

The annual Lake Tahoe Home and Garden Show will be held on Friday, April 26, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, April 27, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The show will be staged in the South Tahoe Middle School Multi-Purpose Room, behind the bus garage and next to the track, entrance off Al Tahoe Blvd.
Admission to this show is FREE, and free door prize drawings will be held every twenty minutes with prizes going to show attendees.
Series of small weather systems heading to Lake Tahoe

This will fall on the heels of a smaller system on Thursday.

With almost 130 miles of roads (260 lane miles) maintained by the City of South Lake Tahoe, with many of them past their prime, it would take millions of dollars to get all of them to a top rating.
