Pink Heavenly event to raise funds for South Lake Tahoe area locals fighting cancer

The Barton Foundation is joining Heavenly Mountain Resort in putting on the event with the hopes of giving cancer the boot by raising $250,000.

Annual Christmas Bird Count in Lake Tahoe Sunday

Finals results of South Lake Tahoe election could be known by Friday

With just 47 votes separating the "yes" and the "no" votes on Measure T in South Lake Tahoe, many are anxiously awaiting the results. El Dorado County has 30 days from the election to send the certified election results to the State of California.

Voter turnout expected to be high in El Dorado County

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - From 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., local voters will be casting their decisions for the future of South Lake Tahoe government, El Dorado County government, cannabis, vacation rentals and state and federal issues and candidates.

A historic number of voters are expected both nationally and locally. During the last California gubernatorial election in 2014 voter turnout was at a record low, but the opposite is expected in 2018.

Guided walks of historic Genoa at Mormon Station State Historic Park

Mormon Station is located in the heart of the Genoa National Historic District, which encompasses over 25 structures and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Mormon Station will be offering guided walks of Genoa on four select Saturdays this fall. Join a park ranger for an approximately one-mile trek throughout a portion of the historic district. During the walk, we will discuss the significance of the structures located along the route, as well as the previous owners of the properties and their contributions to the history of Carson Valley.

It's Marathon Week in Lake Tahoe; Expect road closure October 14

Letter: City has failed to deliver effective VHR enforcement

Mayor Wendy David has stated that it is okay to have Vacation Home Rentals in residential neighborhoods as long as there is 'consistent' enforcement. Sorry Wendy but planning and zoning are not determined by enforcement. What has been ‘consistent' is the city's failure to deliver effective enforcement. When a neighbor calls in to complain about a problem with a VHR, a warning call goes out to the agent or owner of that VHR to warn them of the complaint. By the time the Enforcement Officer arrives the lights are out and the report reads: "Quiet on Arrival".

Reef's Run for Hydrocephalus Awareness in Lake Tahoe Sunday

A 2.5-mile fun run (and stroll) will be held on the South Shore Sunday, September 9 to raise awareness of Hydrocephalus, a condition most have never heard of yet it affects over one million people in the United States.

Runners (and walkers) will start at Shoreline of Tahoe on Kahle Drive in Stateline and end at Round Hill Pines Beach Resort. The cost is $40 for those 15 and older, $20 for kids 14 and under. Those running the course will start at 8:30 a.m., and walkers/strollers start at 8:45 a.m.

Costumes and tutus are encouraged, as well as the wearing of "Hydrocephalus Blue."

Emily's Walk for Hope on Suicide Awareness Day in South Lake Tahoe

The National Day of Suicide Awareness will be observed in South Lake Tahoe at the Suicide Prevention Network's 2nd annual Emily's Walk for Hope on Saturday, September 8 at 10:00 a.m. at Lakeview Commons.

Emily’s Walk for Hope was founded last year by longtime local, Susan Alessi who lost her daughter Emily Ann Alessi to suicide in 2014. The purpose of this walk is to honor her life, to remember those around us lost to suicide and to help end the stigma surrounding suicide.

It's back to school from youth at the south end of Lake Tahoe on Monday, August 27. Both Lake Tahoe Unified School Distrist and Douglas County School District open their doors and welcome back students for the 2018/19 school year.

South Lake Tahoe man arrested in Carson City for alleged 3rd DUI

A 52-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested in the area of North Curry and West Spear streets for felony suspicion of third DUI, driving on a revoked license, and following too close, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Ragan Allen Stacey was arrested after deputies responded to a two vehicle crash Saturday evening. Dispatch advised the driver of one of the vehicles was walking away from the crash, and deputies were able to locate him on North Curry Street.

Promise scholaships open for Nevada high school seniors attending WNC

The Nevada Promise Scholarship began accepting applications for its second-year on Wednesday, which allows students to attend Nevada community colleges at virtually no cost.

Last year saw more than 1,300 students become eligible to receive the scholarship and attend the College of Southern Nevada, Great Basin College, Truckee Meadows Community College, or Western Nevada College this fall semester nearly for free.

Several activities during Lake Tahoe Wildfire Awareness Month

National Trails Day community cleanup in South Lake Tahoe

Tahoe Bike Challenge June 1-14

Great Prairie™ Sports has announced the inaugural Great Prairie™ Youth Triathlon presented by Hydron Module Geothermal Systems on Saturday, July 7, 2018. Tahoe Paradise Park in Meyers will be the base for the event, which is for boys and girls ages 7-15.
