Lane closures over on Kingsbury Grade, NDOT project nearing completion
Submitted by paula on Mon, 10/29/2018 - 7:00pmSTATELINE, Nev. - Lane closures in place on Kingsbury Grade (SR 207) this summer have been removed now that the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has substantially completed a project to enhance roadway drainage pipes on the Carson Valley side of the road.
Motorists can still expect some intermittent minor shoulder and other closures.

Lanes of I-80 closed for project Sunday-Tuesday
Submitted by paula on Fri, 10/26/2018 - 7:30pmCaltrans is alerting motorists to upcoming overnight lane closures on Interstate 80 east of Colfax due to continued construction work on the Truck Climbing Lane Project.
Motorists can expect alternating eastbound lanes closures between the Long Ravine Bridge and the Alpine (Secret Town Road) Overcrossing from 8:00 p.m. Sunday until 11:00 a.m. Monday and 6:00 p.m. Monday until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday for water blasting to remove temporary striping.
In addition, the eastbound #1 lane will remain closed until Tuesday when the water blasting has been completed.
Motorists beware: New traffic light in South Lake Tahoe goes live Tuesday
Submitted by paula on Mon, 10/22/2018 - 4:13pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The new traffic signals at the intersection of Lodi Avenue and Highway 50 (Lake Tahoe Blvd.) will be activated on Tuesday, October 23. Caltrans is wrapping up year two of a $56 million water-quality and roadway improvement project from the Y to the Trout Creek Bridge, and the new light will allow motorists to utilize synchronized traffic lights the complete distance upon completion.
The new light is replacing stop signs on both sides of Lodi Avenue and what was uncontrolled access on Highway 50.

SPECIAL EVENT - U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from 5 Mile Road to Carson Road in Camino: Eastbound motorists can expect the left turn lanes to be closed at 5 Mile Road, lower Carson Road and upper Carson Road from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, October 21 and Saturday, October 27 for Apple Hill season traffic. Motorists will be directed to Exit 54/Cedar Grove to access Carson Road.

Bicycle and pedestrian safety focus of new CHP campaign

The California Pedestrian and Bicyclist Enforcement and Education Project (CPBEEP) grant runs from October 1, 2018, through September 30, 2019. During this year-long statewide campaign, CHP officers will conduct enhanced enforcement activities and public education campaigns.
2019 to be major road construction year in South Lake Tahoe

Caltrans Project Manager Clark Peri presented an outline of three of their projects on the South Shore during Tuesday's City Council meeting.

South Lake Tahoe man dies after being struck by vehicle
Submitted by paula on Sat, 09/29/2018 - 1:24amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 65-year-old man died Friday night after being struck by a vehicle near Denny's on Lake Tahoe Boulevard. Just before 7:30 p.m. on September 28, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) received several calls about a pedestrian versus vehicle collision near the intersection of Lake Tahoe and Al Tahoe Boulevards.
Upon arrival they found an unresponsive man lying in the roadway in front of Denny's. South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue personnel arrived and pronounced the local man deceased at the scene.

Parts of National Forest reopen as Boot Fire nears complete containment
Submitted by paula on Fri, 09/14/2018 - 1:00pmIt has taken firefighters 10 days to contain 98 percent of the Boot Fire. The remaining open line is in the northern reaches of the fire area. Very steep slopes and thick timber made it unsafe for firefighters to work, thus delaying containment.
The fire burned 6,974 acres and at times closed US 395 between Walker and Bridgeport.
With the increased containment of the Boot Fire, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is now able to reopen some of the closed area on the Bridgeport Ranger District.

Extra long big rig gets stuck on SR-4 after driver told to take I-80
Submitted by paula on Wed, 08/29/2018 - 11:17pmThe driver of a 73-foot long big rig got stuck on State Route 4 at Cadillac Curve on Wednesday after being asked by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to use I-80.
At 8:20 a.m. on August 29, CHP Officer Brothers located the over-length big rig on State Route 88 by Crystal Springs. The driver was turned around and directed to take I-80 through Reno due to being 73-feet long on a route where the maximum length is 65 feet.

Motorhome leads law enforcement on chase from South Lake Tahoe to Gardnerville
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/27/2018 - 5:30pmA motorhome being driven recklessly through South Lake Tahoe and Stateline led law enforcement on a high-speed ride along Highway 50, over Spooner Summit and into the Carson Valley before it crashed into a building in Gardnerville, Nev.
At 10:30 p.m. Sunday, August 26, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) was alerted about the 1997 Airstream motorhome speeding through South Lake Tahoe, running red lights and traveling without headlamps on. They saw it as it crossed into Nevada traveling 55 mph in a 35-mph zone when an enforcement stop was initiated.

Crews Wednesday were smoothing new asphalt. Motorists should anticipate intermittent roadway shoulder and lane closures over coming weeks for final construction clean up.

Steve Teshara named president of California Association of Councils of Governments
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/31/2018 - 4:12pmSteve Teshara, CEO of the Tahoe Chamber and chairperson of the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) Board of Directors, now has another leadership duty for the upcoming year.
Teshara will serve as the president of the California Association of Councils of Governments (CALCOG), a group whose membership includes 47 regional governments involved in the planning, funding, and development of the state’s transportation infrastructure.
He has been representing TTD on the CALCOG Board.

Bomb squad called out for suspicious item in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/26/2018 - 9:37pmOfficers from the South Lake Tahoe office of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to US 50 and Pioneer Trail Wednesday morning after a citizen reported a possible bomb laying in the roadway.
Upon arrival they observed what appeared to be some type of explosive ordinance in the road and called in the El Dorado County Sheriff's bomb squad. The roadway was shut down temporarily for public safety according to a post on the CHP Facebook page.

Overnight lane closures along SR28 July 15-19
Submitted by paula on Sun, 07/08/2018 - 11:54amExpect overnight lane closures on SR28 from July 15 to July 19 as Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) crews clear roadway shoulders and drainage systems.
Single lane closures and travel delays of up to 30 minutes should be anticipated on State Route 28 July 15 through July 19 between 6:00 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. daily. The mobile road improvement operation is scheduled to begin in the Crystal Bay area on Sunday, July 15 and move eastward over the following nights. Roadside drainage, shoulders and slopes will be cleared of debris for a safer roadway and improved area water quality.
Sacramento man suffers major injuries after going off road near Twin Bridges
Submitted by paula on Sat, 07/07/2018 - 4:27pmA 38-year-old man from Sacramento, California is in Renown Medical Center this afternoon after suffering major injuries after going off US50 east of Slippery Ford Road near Twin Bridges at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018.

The unidentified man was driving his vehicle on eastbound US50, east of Slippery Ford Road at an unsafe speed according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Due to his high rate of speed speed in the curvy section of the road he could not maintain his position within the traffic lane and lost control.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/02/2018 - 4:13pmThe 4th of July is not only a fun holiday, but it is a very busy one in Lake Tahoe. Due to heavy holiday traffic, Caltrans will suspend their roadwork projects at the lake.
Roadwork on U.S. Highway 50 from the "Y" intersection to the Trout Creek Bridge will be suspended starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 3. The regular weekly construction schedule will resume at 9 p.m. Thursday, July 5.
Although construction will be suspended for the holiday, there will be heavy traffic and work zones will still be set up. Please "Be Work Zone Alert."

A person buzzing down the road or bike path on a lime green electric scooter, courtesy of the newest and hottest trend, scooter sharing. In South Lake Tahoe, Lime Bike introduced the scooters a few weeks ago, and since then the popularity has increased daily.
One thing every user has is a huge smile on their face. One thing most riders don't have is a helmet and knowledge of electric scooter laws.

Memorial Day ceremony to honor Lake Valley Firefighter Larry Stewart
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/24/2018 - 11:55pmLake Valley firefighter Larry Stewart was on his way to a fire at Camp Richardson on Friday July 3, 1964 when the water tender truck he was driving ran into a tree. He died two days later.
On Memorial Day, 2018, Stewart will be dedicated on the Public Safety Wall of Honor during a ceremony at Happy Homestead Cemetery. The ceremony begins at 11:00 a.m.
In 2017, the first ceremony was held and the names of US Forest Service-Tahoe Basin Firefighter Mikey Hallenbeck and Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) irefighter Mitch Underhill were permanently etched on the Wall.
