Opinion: Hot chocolate run turns into mission to help homeless in South Lake Tahoe

She wasn't crying, but she wasn't exactly not crying, either. We were about to get an early season storm, a typical hot-to-cold pattern, and I had been looking out the window waiting on rain to become snow. My wife had gone to the grocery store, and I wanted to know what had upset the hot chocolate run. An elderly homeless couple had been rummaging through a dumpster in the parking lot. They were literally freezing, threadbare clothes wet and icing over.

Very good question! Just last week we were able to return a dog that had been stolen because it was micro chipped. We located the dog and because we were able to verify the legal owner via the microchip it made getting the dog back to his owner a much easier process.

Editorial: Hand over heart, flags down at dusk and in bad weather

We've all seen the recent NFL player's protest over the treatment of blacks by not standing during the playing of the National Anthem at games. While I don’t agree with their method, it made me think about the way people respect the flag in general.

When growing up I always heard "Don't let the flag touch the ground," "The flag is only outside during daylight hours and not during rain or bad weather," and, as a Girl Scout, I learned how to fold the flag in the correct manner and learned the flag had to be burned if it was mistreated.

AT&T coverage an issue for much of Lake Tahoe Friday

If you're an AT&T cell phone and/or internet customer, including those with UVerse, you already know your coverage was less that stellar Friday. According to Heidi Hill Drum, Executive Director of the Tahoe Prosperity Center, her source at AT&T said 8 cell sites including 4GSM were affected by the Emerald Fire Friday. They told her the community could expect to be up and running by Saturday morning.
