As spring returns to Lake Tahoe, a story of resilience and resurgence is also unfolding. It’s the migration of the Sandhill Cranes – magnificent birds that once upon a time had all but vanished from the Tahoe region.

“March is a big month for Sandhill Crane migration over and through the Tahoe Region, as thousands of nocturnally migrating cranes will pass overhead,” says Tahoe Institute of Natural Sciences (TINS) co-founder and executive director Will Richardson. “but more and more, these cranes are stopping to spend the summer here.”

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Team Whiskey Bonanza will be at the Tahoe Blue Event Center on Saturday, March 30 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., and tickets are still available. Get ready for a day packed with excitement with archery, fishing, rifle shooting, kayaking, bull riding, climbing walls, a mechanical bull, live music, line dancing, food, and whiskey tasting for the adults.

This event is unique to Lake Tahoe and will offer something for everyone, providing an unforgettable day of adventure and excitement.

What to expect:

The next, free history program at the Minden Mill Distilling will be on Sunday, March 24 at 1 p.m. This program is “A Nice Place to Visit-Tourism Below Sea Level.” Using extensive research and seldom-seen photos, local authors, historians, and longtime Death Valley residents David & Gayle Woodruff examine the improbable story of how a company best known for producing laundry soap, helped turn a vast expanse of remote desert…with one of the least marketable names imaginable (Death Valley)…into one of the crown jewels of our National Park system and a “must-see” for visitors worldwide.

STATELINE, Nev. – The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority (LTVA) and its advertising agency, Noble Studios, were presented with the Visit California’s Poppy Award recognizing the creativity and effectiveness in tourism marketing for the destination’s Awe ‘and then’ Some paid brand campaign under $1 million.

Visit California received hundreds of submissions this year for its Poppy Awards recognizing some of the best work in the industry. Winners were announced on Tuesday, March 12, at the Poppy Awards gala during the Outlook Forum in Palm Springs.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - March Madness is not only on the basketball court this season, but it is around the shores of Lake Tahoe too. The lake is surrounded by beautiful beaches, and now the public has a chance to vote on their favorites in a unique bracket.

The Tahoe Fund is running a March Madness-style tournament to determine the most popular beach at Lake Tahoe.

The award-winning musical comedy, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. will be performed by the South Tahoe High School (STHS) Drama Department. This show has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor.

Shows will be at the STHS TADA Theatre on March 22, 23, 29 and 30 at 7 p.m., and March 24 and 30 at 2 p.m.

The musical is a fast-paced, wildly funny, and touching show that is relatable to both young and old. It features a cast of favorites and a wonderful live musical combo.

The famously dark skies over Lake Tahoe offer an unobstructed view of the night sky, and this summer Tahoe Star Tours is expanding its schedule to invite more people for docent-led explorations of the cosmos. Events will return to Cosmoarium locations at Northstar California Resort and the Spooner Lake Visitor Center on Thursdays and Saturdays from June through September.

It will be a memorable evening of love, laughter, and dancing at the inaugural Mother Son Spring Fling Dance on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in Blu Nightclub at Bally’s Lake Tahoe. Sons are welcome to bring their “plus one” including, but not limited to, mothers, grandmothers, aunties, older sisters, bonus moms, stepmoms, supermoms, and the list goes on. Organizers can’t wait to see mama moves and son grooves as they dance the night away!

The Tahoe Art League is looking for local artists to design and create murals around South Lake Tahoe, as well as for business owners with high visibility walls.

Following up on three successful murals from last year, they are going to be doing another round of murals this year. The theme for murals in 2024 is "We Belong."

There are several high visibility walls along US50 that artists can choose from including:

- The wall of the liquor store that faces the carwash near the intersection of Tahoe Keys Blvd. and US50 (where a faded mountain mural currently exists)

Late-Nite Productions has announced an evening of stand-up comedy with actor, host, comedian, and producer Howie Mandel for one night only in Lake Tahoe during Celebrity Golf Week. LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The Tahoe Blue Events Center was transformed into what looked like a massive speed dating event for members of the tourism industry last week during the 36th annual Go West Summit. The summit connects tourism industry suppliers from across the West with buyers and media from around the world.

The Lake Tahoe Visitor's Authority (LTVA) hosted the event this year, and they rolled out the blue carpet for the long list of participants. The focus of the event is to have participants learn about destinations and what they have to offer.

TAHOE CITY, Calif. The Tahoe Fund and USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) have announced a new collaboration. They are looking for community-based artists to “beautify” the blank interiors of the restrooms at the Stateline Fire Lookout Trail in Crystal Bay, the Logan Shoals Vista Point on Tahoe’s East Shore, and the Tallac Historic Site on the South Shore.

They hope murals depicting Tahoe’s plants, animals, and beautiful landscapes will reduce vandalism, and inspire people to take care of Tahoe.

Two new shows have been added to the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harvey's Tahoe: Dan + Shay, and Lake Tahoe is for Lovers. Country music stars Dan + Shay embark on their Heartbreak on the Map Tour this month, and it has been extended into the summer. The three-time Grammy Award winners will have Jake Owen and Dylan Marlowe on the tour with them.

Their Lake Tahoe stop is Sunday, September 15 at 7 p.m. Dan + Shay will be the new coaches on The Voice for the upcoming season.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Celebrate the history of one of the biggest legends of the Sierra Nevada when the Lake Tahoe Historial Society hosts the 21st annual Snowshoe Thompson Ski & Snowshoe Celebration on Sunday, March 3 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This free event will be held in the History Complex, 3058 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

How did we get to where we are today? David Antonucci answers some of these questions in his book, The Environmental History of Lake Tahoe. He'll cover some of the 170 years of Euro-American occupation of the Lake Tahoe Basin and sequential cultural eras that left Tahoe impacted. It is a compelling story with a complex cast of characters, beginning with native peoples, and loggers, and extending to land developers, environmentalists, tourists, politicians, and scientists.

Hear the firsthand account from the frontlines with Yonatan Haber from the 55th Paratroopers Brigade, a reserve-service Infantry Brigade in the Israeli Defense Forces.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – As the excitement builds for Super Bowl LVIII, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) reminds football fans to intercept impaired driving if they are heading out to a Super Bowl party and plan on drinking. Make sure you stick to the “Go Safely” game plan and choose a sober way to go.

During Super Bowl LVIII weekend (Feb. 10 and 11), SLTPD will have additional officers on patrol looking for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Over the weekend, the Cheer and Dance Teams of South Tahoe High School took part in the Northern Nevada Cheer and Dance Invitational. The Cheer Team performed exceptionally, earning a well-deserved 3rd place trophy. The Dance Team also shined by competing in multiple categories and capturing two 1st place trophies in the Hip Hop and Pom Dance divisions. Moreover, Madison Cisneros delivered a breathtaking contemporary solo performance that earned her a 3rd place win.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - "You bet on us, so we placed a bet for you," said the favors at the September 2023 wedding of locals Matt and Jessica Grime at the 4H Camp in Stateline.

What was that bet you ask?

The Grimes purchased 180 $2 tickets at the Harveys Lake Tahoe sportsbook for the San Francisco 49ers to win the Super Bowl. They made the bets on June 7, so each $2 bet would pay out $17 extra, for a total of $19, with the +850 money line it came with should the 49ers win on Sunday.
