Flooding affects homes and roads in South Lake Tahoe

There were several areas through South Lake Tahoe that experienced flooding on Tuesday as rain from an atmospheric river hit the region, with two Meyers area streets getting the brunt of the storm.

Caltrans, El Dorado County and City of South Lake Tahoe crews, along with homeowners worked through the day to get standing water off the road, out of driveways and even homes.

The intersection of North Upper Truckee Road and Highway 50, and well as Highway 50 and Pomo Street were both flooded, along with the Boys and Girls Club parking lot. Homes on Choctaw and Arapahoe Streets near the Lake Tahoe Golf Course experienced flooded driveways and homes.

Gale Lawrence, a bus driver with Lake Tahoe Unified School District, shot this video of the South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue Department pumping water out of the Boys & Girls Club parking lot at the Al Tahoe Elementary school site.

Rain is forecast all week with snow returning by Friday afternoon according to the National Weather Service.

Sand bags are available at the City’s Streets and Snow Removal Yard located at 1160 Rufus Allen Blvd. Their operating hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. They are also available at the El Dorado County Department of Transportation Yard at 1121 Shakori Drive in Meyers.
