South Tahoe Viking wrestlers earn trip to state championships

The South Tahoe Viking wrestling team made their trip to the 2015 NIAA Division 1A Northern League Wrestling Championships count on saturday, with five wrestlers qualifying for State next weekend.

Wrestling at 126 pounds, Junior Michael Valney beat Fernley's Dillon Maguin to bring home third place.

At the next weight class, 132 pounds, Senior James Sorenson also had a third place finish with his win over Lowry's Quint Bell.

Sophomore Andrew Herrera finished the highest of the Vikings with a 2nd place in the 170 pound class. He lost to David Hughes of Churchill County in the final round.

Miguel Leon, a Senior. finished in third after his win over Churchill County's Juan Ledesma.

The final qualifier for State is 195 pound Blair Binns, a Junior. He lost to CJ Kilbride of Fernley to earn third place.

Jackson Binn, a South Tahoe High wrestler at 285 pounds placed fifth and Addison Day at 115 pounds, who also placed fifth.

The State Championships for 1A start on Friday, February 13 in Winnemucca. They culminate with the awards ceremony on February 14 at 4:15 p.m.
