Flooding around Lake Tahoe prompts road closures

A flood warning remains in effect for South Lake Tahoe until Wednesday evening. One storm system will be leaving the area as a new atmospheric river heads into the region on Thursday.

Flood watch warning is now in place for Thursday at 10:00 a.m. to Friday at 4:00 a.m. This will be combine with a winter storm warning starting at the same time and going until Saturday at 1:00 a.m. Those warnings will be replaced with a dry period over the weekend with sunny clear skies and temperatures into the 40s and 50s.

The rain has caused some road closures:

Lake Tahoe Blvd. at Sawmill Pond has been closed due to flooding

Highway 50 north of Cave Rock at Logan Creek is closed in both directions after the fifth boulder of the week fell onto the roadway. The unstable hillside is causing concern for Nevada Department of Transportation and is being evaluated.

SR-89 around Emerald Bay has been closed to the an avalanche concern.

There is no longer any flooding at intersection of Highway 50 and Pomo Street.

An area of concern is the watershed by Herbert and Blackwood Avenues, behind the Knight's Inn. Bill Avenue, Shirley, and Vanda Lee Roads are closed. Water flow from Heavenly Resort goes to the lake through this neighborhood.
