CANCELED - Closing receptions for Lake Tahoe Community College art exhibitions

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Community College invites one and all to a free closing reception for its three current art exhibits on Saturday, March 14 from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Come enjoy beautiful art, free refreshments, and live music courtesy of the Reno Swing Set! The opening ceremonies were previously canceled due to snow.

In the Haldan Gallery, located in the library building on LTCC’s campus, will be Reno-based painter/printmaker John McCarthy's colorful solo show, "A Layered Existence: Works Past and Present." McCarthy’s personal education and traveling experiences around the world has exposed him to various peoples, cultures and geographies, and he integrates these experiences into his life and artwork. He describes these experiences as “layers” that were created because
of exposure to world music, different languages, alphabets, and points of view.

In the Foyer Gallery, located in the Fine Arts building, will be an installation piece by Adrienne Belair called "Creature Comforts." Belair describes her art as something she “grows” rather than creates, with individual pieces organically sprouting out from her process. She hopes viewers of her artwork will decide what she “grew” based on their own personal experiences that they bring to the gallery, leaving the experience open to interpretation for each individual viewer.

In the Student Gallery, located throughout LTCC's Main Building, will be a group exhibit called “Tahoe Art League Presents” showcasing various kinds of art created by the talented members of the Tahoe Art League.

The all-acoustic Reno Swing Set band will set up just outside of the Haldan Gallery in the library building, playing a variety of bluegrass, gypsy jazz, and Western Swing selections. For more information about them, visit www.renoswingset.com.

These art exhibits are always free for the community to explore. For more information about these exhibits and LTCC’s Art Department, please contact LTCC art instructor Phyllis Shafer at Shafer@ltcc.edu.
