10:45 p.m. update: Limited traffic will soon be allowed back on two lanes of Highway 50 through Stateline after NV Energy has re-energized their lines and power is back on in the area. As of 10:30 p.m., Douglas County Sheriff's Office spokesperson said it should be about an hour longer until open.

Explosion holes are being patched temporarily and traffic will not be allowed to drive on the plates.

3:15 p.m. update: Douglas County Sheriff said they hope to have and least two lanes of Highway 50 open by 6:00 p.m. tonight.

NV Energy crews are working to de-energize power to their underground switch box which will require disconnecting all power to the area. They will then be able to see how much damage has been done.

Southwest Gas is working to the east of NV Energy, working on a gas leak in that area.

11:00 a.m. update: Expect the road to be closed through Stateline for awhile as crews from NV Energy and Southwest Gas continue to work on the underground electrical power switch that appears to be the cause of two early morning explosions. They cannot get power off to that switch and must dig it out. The explosions occurred at 5:07 a.m. and 5:14 a.m.

There were no injuries during this morning's explosions in the Stateline area.

"Thank goodness it happened early in the morning and there was not a lot of foot traffic or highway traffic," said Captain Joe Duffy of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Duffy said there is still potential for another explosion in the Stateline area so the Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking people to stay away. Southwest Gas has detected a gas leak just east of the crater and is it unknown at this time if the two are related.

Video from the building that houses CVS across the street shows two large, and loud, underground explosions with a resulting fire.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - There was an explosion just after 5:00 a.m. in Stateline Sunday morning, causing the road to buckle and closing Highway 50 in both directions through the casino corridor. Multiple agencies are on the scene including NV Energy, the Nevada Highway Patrol and the Tahoe Douglas Fire Department.

The explosion is believed electrical, caused by natural gas, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. It appears to have happened under the roadway in the crosswalk area between the Hard Rock and MontBleu casinos.

Expect the road to be closes for an extended period of time and use the alternate route of Lake Parkway via Heavenly Village Way to the south, and Park Avenue to the north.

This is a developing story.
