A $2.8M Proposition 84 grand was received by the City of South Lake Tahoe’s Engineering Division yesterday. The Round 2 grant will correct erosion control issues in the Sierra Tract neighborhood.
"Investing in our infrastructure is a key priority to the City,” said City Manager Nancy Kerry. “This is evident with the combination of current infrastructure improvement projects such as the Harrison Avenue Streetscape Improvement project, Caltrans roadway improvements and Public/Private Partnership projects such as the Chateau project at Stateline are making a substantial difference in our city.”
Proposition 84, the Safe Drinking Water, Water Quality and Supply, Flood Control, River and Coastal Protection Bond Act of 2006, was approved by California voters in the general election on November 7, 2006. Proposition 84 provides the State Water Board $90 million for matching grants to local public agencies for the reduction and prevention of stormwater contamination of rivers, lakes, and streams.
In the last two years the City of South Lake Tahoe’s Engineering Department has been awarded nearly $6M in Prop 84 grants, which are funding important Environmental Improvement Projects in South Lake Tahoe; both the Bijou and Sierra Tract projects. The $2.8M grant is the second largest Round 2 amount awarded based on statewide competitive results and essentially completes project funding.
