On November 20, 2015, officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department responded to a home on Candlewood Drive at 11:35 p.m. A 73-year-old woman had gone to a neighbor's house where she called 911 after her grandson, 30-year-old Jesse Shane Gage, displayed a large knife and threatened to kill her.
Gage, who lives with his grandmother, was arrested and charged with terrorizing, trying to harm an elderly person and exhibiting a deadly weapon.
Missing elderly Bay Area man found in Incline Village

“If you were to talk to the men and women responsible for this rescue effort, they will tell you that it is all simply part of their job or why they do what they do,” Sheriff Allen said. “As Sheriff, I will tell you that we should all be proud of their actions this week for I believe they saved a life that day.”

Since that time, information has surfaced about one of the subjects, the Tahoe Pines Lodge.
New owner Darren Cobrae said he wanted to remodel the aging motel which has become home to long term renters. His plans for the property included adding two restaurants and retail space.

Butte Fire: Two Fatalities Confirmed, Containment Grows To 47 Percent

Damage assessment shows 233 residences, 175 outbuildings and 15 other structures burned in the fire, with 6,000 additional structures still threatened.
Officials ask that area residents remain vigilant, as the fire is still active in many areas. They also ask for people to assist by calling the appropriate authorities for specific situations:

Douglas investigators: Elderly Gardnerville couple die in apparent suicide pact
Submitted by paula on Tue, 09/15/2015 - 2:08pmAn 86-year-old Gardnerville man who held Douglas County deputies in a Sept. 1 standoff in which the man's wife was deceased inside the home, died Friday from apparent organ failure after ingesting medications, a Douglas County sheriff's sergeant said Tuesday. Investigators say the couple made a suicide pact.
William Lewis, 86, died at Renown Medical Center in Reno. His wife, Phyllis Lewis, 82, was found dead inside the couple's Edlesborough Circle home, said Sgt. Pat Brooks.

The air quality index for South Lake Tahoe is measured on Sandy Way and remained in the moderate range as of 7 p.m.
This means, people with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children are the groups most at risk. Unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion.
Sweepstakes scammer sentenced for defrauding elderly
Submitted by paula on Tue, 08/11/2015 - 9:10pmA California woman was sentenced to 130 months in prison for her role in a half-million dollar Costa Rica-based “sweepstakes fraud” scheme that victimized hundreds of U.S. residents.
Patricia Diane Clark, 57, of Sacramento, California, was sentenced today by Chief U.S. District Judge Frank D. Whitney for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Clark was also ordered to pay $642,032 in restitution and to forfeit the same amount jointly and severally with her co-defendants.
Scammers targeting El Dorado County residents

The scammers are not from the area and use internet based phones which allow them to select a local area code. They have been identifying themselves as local law enforcement and tell the call takers that they have missed jury duty and that a warrant has been issued for their arrest. The scammers tell the victims if they don’t pay, they will be arrested for the warrant. In most cases the caller has told the victim the amount of the warrant was $5,500.00.

South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge provides food for 40 families
Submitted by paula on Fri, 12/19/2014 - 11:50pmFor the past four years, members of the South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge have been providing meals for the less fortunate members of the community. What began as a small project with members filling up 15 boxes of food has grown into a much larger project with 40 families receiving the meals this weekend.
Administrative staff at Tahoe Valley Elementary school selected the 40 recipients and students from the school decorated the food boxes with colorful, seasonal messages.
Cardinale Way's free Thanksgiving dinners enjoyed by the community
Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/27/2014 - 11:48pmCardinale Way employees and family members prepared 400 Thanksgiving dinners for South Lake Tahoe area people in need of a meal on this holiday. They were up early, cooking turkeys and preparing meals to be handed out at the American Legion.
A tent was set up in the parking lot and a few hundred came by for a full meal. Smiles were plentiful, both from the hungry and from those who were able to help out.
South Lake Tahoe resident victim of international phone scam
Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/20/2014 - 8:35pmAn elderly South Lake Tahoe resident is the victim of a phone scam where he sent a undisclosed amount of money to unknown people. The phone number initiating the scam was from the area code 876, which is Jamaica.
The resident called SLT Police Department to alert them that he received phone calls from people he didn't know who were trying to obtain money from him. The victim was told by the caller that he was stuck in customs and needed help getting out. The suspect convinced the elderly victim to send him a large amount of money.
Elderly caregiver series to be given in South Lake Tahoe

This six week series of classes are designed to provide instruction and support for caregivers who are, or are planning to, care for a family member or friend age 60 or older.
All classes are held at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel (formerly Embassy Suites) from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Participants must register by calling 530-621-6369 or 800-510-2020. Free in-Home respite is available to qualified caregivers. Pre-authorization is required for respite services.

All organizations that assist clients who are living with hunger, from children to the elderly are invited to attend the Food Bank of El Dorado County's Hunger Response Network Meeting. The meeting will be at the American Legion Hall at 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The need for food assistance is growing in the community and the Food Bank wants to collaborate with local organizations to conduct a South lake Tahoe focused hunger to truly understand the community’s needs and the best ways to allocate the Food Bank’s resources in Tahoe based on these results.
Suspect Sought In Elder Abuse of South Lake Tahoe 92 Year Old WWII Veteran

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is seeking an arrest warrant for James Michael Valero on three felony counts and one misdemeanor count following an attack Tuesday night on a 92 year old World War II veteran.
Severe Flu Cases on the Rise in South Lake Tahoe

This year the predominant flu strain in the United States is H1N1, the same one that caused the international pandemic in 2009-2010. Medical experts believe that this strain will take its toll on children and middle aged adults. So far this winter, 13 deaths have been attributed to the flu in North Carolina. In Hildago, Texas there have already been 6 deaths and 2 in Salt Lake City. Six children have died nationally during this flu season.

Elderly Man Shoots and Kills Caregiver in Douglas County

Norlund said he shot and killed her and then asked a neighbor to call 911.

On Friday South Lake Tahoe Police officers were dispatched to an apartment complex at 3421 Spruce Ave., in reference to a call involving Norman Gary Lambert, 74, said SLTPD Sgt. Shannon Laney.
When officers arrived at the Lambert's residence where he lives along, he was gone. There was no evidence of any crime and apartment management, staff and witnesses report Lamber has appeared to be confused and disoriented, said Laney.

Early reports were that the man had no visible injuries according to South Lake Tahoe EMTs on the scene. The man, said to be elderly, was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital. Traffic was diverted to Echo Road.

The nature of their deaths hasn't been determined, however, foul play has been ruled out, said Sheriff's Lt. Bryan Golmitz. The cause and manner of death is still being investigated by El Dorado County Sheriff’s detectives and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

Not so lucky now when I went to see the reworked original decked out in 3D. The film is now playing at the Horizon Stadium Cinema at Stateline, Lake Tahoe. And for all those Star Wars fans, and they know who they are, you won't want to miss it; though you can see the release without 3D and you won't be missing much.
