SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say another 13 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday. Of those, six are in El Dorado Hills, one in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz, two in the Greater Placerville area, and four in the Lake Tahoe Region.

The new cases: 2 are under the age of 18, 7 aged 18-49, 3 aged 50-64, and 1 aged 65 or older.

Another 343 people were tested for the coronavirus and 330 negative tests results were received.

There have been another six assumed recoveries with 150 assumed active cases.

The new cases are two under the age of 18, 12 aged 18-49, and eight aged 50-64.

El Dorado County Animal Services rescues two dogs abandoned on US50

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - El Dorado County Animal Services is looking for information from anyone who may have witnessed two German Shepherd dogs being abandoned on Highway 50 near Bridal Veil Falls and Fresh Pond in earlier this month. The young adult male dogs, which were found malnourished and with their metal chain collars embedded into their necks, were rescued by Animal Services officers and are now safely at the Animal Services Shelter in Diamond Springs.

Two victims and two suspects in Stateline stabbing

STATELINE, Nev. - One man was arrested and a manhunt ensued for another after two victims were stabbed at Stateline late Friday, September 18. Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) responded to a report of a stabbing outside of Harrah's Tahoe at 10:56 p.m. Once at the scene they were flagged down by bystanders who saw two suspects run through the casino's parking lot. Deputies and South Lake Tahoe police officers created a perimeter around the area including the alley at MontBleu, Lake Parkway and the forested areas behind the casino including Van Sickle Bi-State Park.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A South Lake Tahoe area man has become the third person to die from COVID-19 in the county. El Dorado County officials say the deceased was in the 50-64 age group and had been hospitalized in another county.

Officials say another 14 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since Friday. Of those, seven are in South Lake Tahoe, five in El Dorado Hills, one in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, and one in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz.

Another 467 people were tested for the coronavirus and 453 negative tests results were received.

Investigation underway after man dies when deputies attempt to assist medics

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Just before 9:00 p.m. on September 12, deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) were called to a residence on Rainbow Ridge in Placerville. El Dorado County Fire paramedics were reportedly having difficulty getting a combative patient to a hospital.

When deputies arrived on scene they contacted the medics and 49-year-old Odie Prettyman. The man was in obvious medical and mental distress but refused to be transported by medics, according to EDSO Sgt. Anthony Prencipe.

Fundraising underway for South Lake Tahoe man with Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The local community has been showing their love and support for Chris Hogbin and his family. Chris has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma in his neck, lungs, liver, lymph nodes and bones.

He and his wife Sonnet, and their three children "are doing the best they can under the circumstance but things are tough for them right now," said a story on GoFundMe.

Forests, campgrounds and day-use areas to close in California and Lake Tahoe Basin

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - All campgrounds and day use areas on U.S. Forest Service land in California and the Lake Tahoe Basin must close at 5:00 p.m. Monday, September 7 due to the unprecedented and dangerous fire conditions and extreme heat, significant wind events, dry conditions, and firefighting resources that are stretched to the limit.

The USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region has announced the following temporary closures and fire restrictions to provide for public safety and reduce the potential for human caused fire starts:

Creek Fire grows to over 73,000 acres, no containment

MONDAY UPDATE 9:30AM: New figures for the fire were updated this morning. The Creek Fire is now at 78,790 acres with no containment. Almost 1,000 firefighters are working at the fire scene which is under gusty wind and high heat warnings Monday.

Heavy smoke from the Creek Fire over South Lake Tahoe Saturday

SUNDAY UPDATE 11:00 a.m.: Eight hundred personnel are currently fighting the Creek Fire which has grown to 45,500 acres.

The Creek Fire a fast-moving fire burning on both Districts of the Forest. The fire which started near the communities of Big Creek and Huntington Lake, moved very quickly prompting several evacuations. Early Saturday afternoon the fire crossed the San Joaquin River and made a run into the Mammoth Pool area. Prompting some members of the public to shelter in place near Wagner’s Store and Campground.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say there have been an additional eight cases of COVID-19 in the county since yesterday. None of those are in the Lake Tahoe area, six were in El Dorado Hills, and one each in Greater Placerville and South County.

Of the new cases, five are aged 18-49, and two aged 50-64.

An additional 180 tests were administered and 172 tests came back negative.

There have been six assumed recoveries with no confirmed patients in the hospital. There is one suspected case in the ICU.

To date, two county residents have died.

Blue Ridge School at South Lake Tahoe JTC awarded Barton grant

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - For 16 years the youth at the Juvenile Treatment Center (JTC) in South Lake Tahoe have been educated by the Blue Ridge Court School, a court school offered through the El Dorado County Department of Education.

Information sought on severely neglected dog abandoned in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County Animal Services is looking for information from the public about a Cocker Spaniel dog that was abandoned on the side of the road in South Lake Tahoe. The severely neglected dog was found on August 22, 2020, by a Good Samaritan who brought the dog to the El Dorado County Animal Services Shelter in Meyers.

The female Cocker Spaniel is about eight-years-old with tan fur. She wasn’t wearing a collar or identification tag and was found lying on the side of the road on Spruce Avenue by Bijou School in South Lake Tahoe.

Barton Health expands services, welcomes new psychiatrist Dr. Joe Hibbeln,

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Internationally recognized psychiatrist, Joe Hibbeln, MD, has joined Barton Health’s team of expert mental and behavioral health providers. A board-certified physician, Dr. Hibbeln is working with patients over 18 years of age at Barton Community Health Center in South Lake Tahoe.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials report another seven positive cases of COVID-19 today. Two are in the Lake Tahoe area, three in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue and two in El Dorado Hills. Of these, one is under the age of 18, two are aged 18-49, two aged 50-64 and two aged 65 or older.

Another 305 tests were administered. 298 negative test results were returned.

There are an assumed 11 more recoveries, bringing that total to 819.

Body of Gilroy man located in Lake Tahoe

4:30 p.m. UPDTE: The body of the missing Gilroy man was located this afternoon in 117 feet of water off the shore of Lake Tahoe.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's dive team with their remote operating vehicle (ROV) found 25-year-old Ian Morlang. He was brought up to the surface and placed on the South Lake Tahoe Police Marine 1 boat, then taken to the Tahoe Keys Marina.

Police officers draped a flag on Morlang as he was carried into a waiting vehicle.

Next of kin has been notified.

The coroner transported the body to the morgue in Placerville.

SLT Police team with others to start South Tahoe Alternative Collaborative Services

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A collaboration between the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD), the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless, El Dorado County Behavioral Health, Barton Health and the Caltahoe JPA ambulance will be bringing a new service to South Lake Tahoe community members in crisis.

The emerging collaboration is called the South Tahoe Alternative Collaborative Services (STACS).

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials report another three positive cases of COVID-19 today. Two are in the Lake Tahoe area and one in the North County. Of these, two are aged 18-49, and one aged 50-64.

Another 20 tests were administered. 17 negative test results were returned.

There are an assumed nine more recoveries, bringing that total to 808.

No change to the hospitalization numbers with one hospitalized in the ICU. There is one suspected case in the hospital. There have been two deaths to date of county residents.

Tahoe Youth & Family Services holds "Miles for Recovery" virtual event

UPDATE: Registration until September 15, 2020.

September is National Recovery Month for both substance abuse and mental health. In recognition of this, Tahoe Youth & Family Services is partnering with Carson Valley Medical Center and providing a Miles For Recovery virtual challenge fundraiser.

This fundraiser will replace the organization’s annual 5K event at the beginning of Carson Valley Days that was canceled because of the pandemic.

Fundraising, donations and grants are the only source of income for the 501c3 nonprofit.
