Mental Health Awareness: Education and awareness are key

- 42% of diagnosed students graduate with a high school diploma.
- 48% of diagnosed students drop out of school.
- 50% will serve jail time after leaving school; 20% serve sentences prior to leaving school.
- Currently 12 % of children in America under the age of 18 have a diagnosable
mental illness.
- Among the US population, mental illness impacts 1 in 4 individuals.
- 50% of adult cases of mental illness had signs and symptoms by age 14.

Former CFO of El Dorado County firm convicted of $2.5 million embezzlement

Mueller to 51 months in prison for mail fraud arising out of his embezzlement from his former employer of more than $2.5 million. Doyle was also ordered to pay over $2.5 million in restitution.
Female South Lake Tahoe sex offender called 'dangerous'
Submitted by paula on Fri, 04/24/2015 - 12:07amA 36-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman, described as dangerous, is being sought by police after she reportedly violated her parole and failed to register as a sex offender.
Jaime Lynn Olson's prison sentence stems from her arrest for kidnapping, sexual battery, multiple counts of forced oral copulation and false imprisonment, officials with the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office said in a Facebook post.
Thursday afternoon, Dave Stevenson, with the El Dorado County District Attorney's investigation division, said Olson and a man are believed to have committed a kidnapping.

To be eligible for enrollment a child must be five years of age on or before September 1, 2015. If your child will turn five years of age between September 2 and December 2, 2015, they qualify for transitional kindergarten which is a two year Kindergarten program located at Tahoe Valley Elementary School.

Do-It-Yourself BMPs for Lake Tahoe residents and contractors

Due to limited grant funding, this will be the last year the workshops for both the contractor and the do-it-youselfers will be held. The workshops will also be the last time businesses can qualify for the BMP Installation Service Providers List by having at least one supervisor per business attend.

Suspect sought in Gardnerville Pizza Hut robbery
Submitted by paula on Tue, 03/24/2015 - 9:24pmAn armed suspect robbed the Pizza Hut in Gardnerville at gunpoint on March 23, asking the clerk for all the money from the cash register.
At 8:15 p.m., the unknown man entered the restaurant located at 1362 Hwy 395 in Gardnerville, NV. After getting the money he left the store on foot, out of view.
An undisclosed amount of money was taken.
The suspect is described as 5'10 or 5'11 inches tall, medium build, wearing dark sunglasses, a dark gray or black pullover hoodie, a navy blue neckerchief and a solid white neckerchief.

22% of stores tested sold cigarettes to teens in El Dorado County

County health and law enforcement officials released the results of a recent operation where trained youth volunteers, aged 14-17, went into stores to purchase cigarettes. Of the 142 retail stores the youth went into, 32 stores sold them tobacco.

Lifeguard training being offered by the American Red Cross
Submitted by paula on Tue, 01/27/2015 - 7:36pmLearning how to respond to aquatic emergencies is the focus of two American Red Cross Lifeguard training sessions being offered in South Lake Tahoe over the next few months.
Participants must be at least 15 years of age, be able to swim 300 yards continuously while demonstrating breathing control and rhythmic breathing, tread water for two minutes using the legs only, and complete a timed event. The class includes 7 hours and 25 minutes of online learning and 20 hours of hands-on instruction.

Stem Cell Treatments for Inflammatory & Traumatic Diseases

Dr. Dori Borjesson from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine will speak about current veterinary clinical trials using stem cells to treat inflammation and spinal cord injury in small and large companion animals.
Borjesson is a veterinarian and Professor at UC Davis, specializing in regenerative medicine and stem cell therapy.

Current students and graduates of LTCC can use a number of online tools there to find and apply for jobs, while local employers can use it to post jobs and search for qualified applicants.
