Thanks to Vail’s EpicPromise grant and the wonderful and incredible Heavenly Mountain Resort Ski Services team members, Bread & Broth’s (B&B) dinner guests enjoyed a wonderful and nutritious meal at St. Theresa Grace Hall on Monday, February 10. Thanks to the generous $300 donation provided by the EpicPromise foundation, the B&B cooks whipped up a tasty meal of Chicken Picante, baked potatoes, green beans, and an avocado salad and servings of a variety of delicious desserts.

ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - The Parents’ Club of Zephyr Cove Elementary School is holding “A Night In Tahoe” catered fundraiser on Tuesday, March 10 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Tahoe Blue Estate.

The beautiful estate is being donated as well as the amazing catering skills of Bella Tahoe for the event.

Complimentary shuttle service to the home will be provided to and from the Heavenly Mountain Resort's Boulder Lodge parking lot. The Parents’ Club invites the community to this fun-filled evening to support ZCES.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A benefit performance of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues will be held February 21-22 in the MontBleu Convention Center. Known as "V-Day South Lake Tahoe," the 18th annual event will raise funds for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence in the community.

The goal is to raise $15,000 for Live Violence Free, the locally-based nonprofit that provides the tools and resources necessary for these survivors to rebuild, gain independence and thrive.

TRUCKEE, Calif. - Sierra State Parks Foundation presents a presentation on covering the history of Highway 395. The March 21 talk will be held at the Donner Memorial State Park Visitor Center located at 12593 Donner Pass Road in Truckee, CA. The discussion will start at 5pm. There is a suggested $5 donation to attend and the State Park parking fee is waived for the evening. Refreshments available and book signing will occur after the presentation. Seating is limited. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - As local residents and St. Theresa Church parishioners, Kevin and Jean Bauwens wanted to help those in need and decided that sponsoring a Bread & Broth (B&B) Adopt A Day of Nourishment would provide them with the opportunity to help feed those experiencing hunger in our community. So, on February 2, Kevin and Jean, along with their daughter, Carrie Bauwens, and granddaughter, Isabel Telles, hosted the Monday Meal at St. Theresa Grace Hall.

TAHOMA, Calif. - You don't have to be an Olympian to explore the self-guided trails of the Olympic Heritage trails at Sugar Pine Point State Park. Sierra State Parks Foundation, the local nonprofit park partner, is hosting a free park day in honor of the 60th anniversary of the 1960 Winter Olympics, which took place in Squaw Valley and the West Shore of Lake Tahoe.

This is a great opportunity to explore the Olympic Heritage trails and interpretive displays while learning about the cultural and natural history of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Golden Bear community in South Lake Tahoe has been at the forefront of neighborhood fire safety and their hard work has paid off. They have earned a Firewise USA® designation by the National Fire Protection Association, making them the first South Lake Tahoe community to earn this designation.

Exchanging their Heavenly Ski Patrol jackets for Bread & Broth (B&B) aprons, Patrick Chu, Colton Terry, Andi Bertolina, Abby Salter, Marissa Streck, and Mike Galgay joined the B&B volunteers serving a delicious hot meal to the dinner guests at the Monday Meal on January 27 at St. Theresa Grace Hall. It was a cold evening and the hot chicken noodle casserole, prepared by the talented B&B cooks and served by the Heavenly Ski Patrol Adopt A Day sponsor team members, was a hit with the dinner guests.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - At least one vacationing family is canceling their trip to Lake Tahoe due to fears about the spread of coronavirus 2019-nCoV, but health officials say this virus is not currently spreading in the community, here or in the United States. If they want to be concerned about anything being spread, they say, the flu is what they really need to be focusing on.

During this 2019-20 flu season, 10,000 people have died in the United States and there have been 19 million cases and 180,000 hospitalizations, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

A little over a year ago, I was asked to serve on the Lake Valley Fire Protection District’s Feasibility Committee for Measure B. I represented you—the homeowner, citizen, and taxpayer. I would like to share a little about what I learned about the Lake Valley Fire Protection District and about Measure B.

Most importantly, I learned that our Lake Valley Fire Protection District is in dire need of our help in order to maintain their current excellent and top-notch level of service, and to sustain a healthy future.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit invites the public to Ski with a Ranger at Heavenly Mountain Resort this winter, starting on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020. Tours will begin each Friday at Tamarack Lodge, at the top of the Heavenly Gondola at 1 p.m. The tours last approximately one-hour and continue through March 27, 2020, weather permitting.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - New plans have been released on the State Route 28 corridor from Sand Harbor to Spooner Summit on the east shore of Lake Tahoe. After the success of the East Shore Trail from Incline Village to Sand Harbor, the plan is to continue the shared-use trail with other improvements to highway safety and infrastructure; summer recreational access; water, air and scenic quality; and increase non-motorized access to the corridor.

The USFS Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) has issued a draft decision for the proposed improvements to this area.

Bread & Broth’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) program provides community members the opportunity to partner with us in our efforts to serve a hot, nutritious meal to the less fortunate of our community. Providing a basic need is a way to not only ease hunger but also uplifts the lives and well-being of those who are struggling. Wanting to take advantage of this opportunity to help others, the Tahoe Wellness Center partnered with Bread & Broth (B&B) and hosted the Monday Meal as the Adopt A Day sponsor on January 20.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On March 3, 2020, voters in the Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) boundaries will decide if Measure B should pass, a measure that would give the fire department funds for much-needed equipment, apparatuses, and supplies.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Phish fans have been savoring this news posted on the band's website weeks ago - the return of the band to the 2020 Lake Tahoe Summer Concert Series. They will be at the popular outdoor arena at Harveys Lake Tahoe on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, July 21 and 22.

Thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra’s $300 sponsorship and manpower donation, Bread & Broth (B&B) volunteers were able to prepare and serve another great dinner on January 13. Ever since the inception of B&B’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) sponsorship program back in 2012, the Kiwanis Club has been adopting the second Monday dinner in the month of January. The Club was one of the first organizations to host an AAD and they have been a consistent supporter of B&B’s goal of easing hunger in our community.

The Tahoe Chamber’s annual Connect for a Cause Charity Mixer to benefit the local non-profit, Bread & Broth is moving to a new location at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Thursday, January 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The community is invited to enjoy this fun evening and support Bread & Broth in their fight against hunger in the South Shore.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The annual Snowshoe Cocktail Race series at Camp Richardson begins on January 18, with the second and third races on Feb. 15 and Mar. 21.

The high stepping fun returns as amateur contestants strap on snowshoes and try their luck in the resort’s annual race. This three-part series held on the beach in front of the Beacon Bar and Grill tests participants’ balance, speed, and agility as racers, cocktail trays in hand, navigate through obstacles, and up and down the beach.

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - Since its opening in June 2019, the new Tahoe East Shore Trail connecting Incline Village to Sand Harbor State Park has quickly become an attraction for both residents and visitors interested in exploring Tahoe’s famed East Shore on foot or by bicycle. To augment the natural beauty of the immediate surroundings and transform a utilitarian tunnel into an enjoyable, relevant art experience, the Tahoe Fund and Tahoe Public Art have joined together to commission a mural that will be unique to the space.

On December 23, Andy and Ellen Dauscher, and their daughters Ali and Carleigh, shared the blessings of the holiday season with the dinner guests attending Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal dinner. Thanks to their Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) sponsorship, the Dauscher Family funded B&B’s meal, and as a family, volunteered at the dinner to spread the holiday spirit and share the blessing of a holiday meal.

“What a wonderful way to start Christmas week,” shared Ellen. “We love helping our community members who are hungry. Thank you, Bread & Broth for letting us join you.”

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Many know the annual winter SnowGlobe Music Festival in South Lake Tahoe as a gathering of electronic music fans in the cold outdoors, but they may not know about the behind the scenes efforts to make the event sustainable and to ensure they leave no trace behind where it comes to products used and trash.

To help them in these efforts, Waste Free Earth is on board to create an environment of sustainability through strict guidelines for vendors and sponsors, recycling waste bins throughout the event, and daily trash pickup and sorting.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) recently concluded a month-long fundraiser to raise money for the Suicide Prevention Network (SPN).

#NoShaveNovember raised just over $3,672 for the nonprofit that provides families and individuals with support and education within the community.

Involved with the judging was Trish Hamilton who lost her son Dalton Warswick to suicide in September of this year. Dalton had attended both Whittell and Douglas High Schools.
