SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There was a quick response Tuesday to a reported vegetation fire at Vikingsholm on SR89 north of South Lake Tahoe. An emergency call was received at 1:41 p.m. for a "small vegetation fire."

Upon arrival, fire teams were able to extinguish the 2 ft x 2 ft fire.

CalFIRE responded since it is on California State Parks land. With the winds at Lake Tahoe Tuesday, any small fire is a threat so caution is urged.

The cause of the fire at this time is undetermined.

STATELINE, Nev. - One person was critically injured Monday morning after the vehicle they were driving left the roadway in front of Harveys Lake Tahoe crashing into the fence along US50.

At 10:25 a.m. on June 19, a red Kia Forte departed its westbound travel lane on US50, crashing into the fence line in front of the casino, and sticking it twice before returning to the roadway where it struck a vehicle stopped at the red light, causing that vehicle to then strike the car in front of it.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Rarely are those who break the rules rewarded, but that is essentially the case if Caltrans goes forward with its plan to raise the speed limit on some segments of the highway in South Lake Tahoe.

If a "reasonable person" will drive over the speed limit 85 percent of the time during a speed study, then the speed limit may be raised.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A group of teens from the Sacramento area arrived in South Lake Tahoe recently for a weekend, but it wasn't the typical tourist weekend filled with hiking, biking, and beach time. These students were participating in an intense weekend entrepreneurial experience that they had spent months preparing for.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Nev./Calif. - Former Denver Broncos Super Bowl MVP and Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway has not played in the annual American Century Championship for six years, but he will be returning to the popular celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe July 12-16.

The two-time Super Bowl champion signal-caller played in the first 27 tournaments until post-football career injuries sidelined him in 2017.

NEVADA BEACH, Nev. - Over four days in early June close to 800 students engaged in an array of fun educational activities at Nevada Beach. All K-2nd graders of South Lake Tahoe and Zephyr Cove elementary schools enjoyed the yearly field trip, ‘Woods, Water, Wildlife.’ This event is organized and run by the South Tahoe Environmental Education Coalition (STEEC), a collaborative network of over 25 local agencies.

VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. - All aboard the Star-Spangled Murder Mystery Train for a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience on the 4th of July!  Enjoy libations and appetizers served on board the train while a live murder mystery show is played out during your round trip from the historic Virginia City Depot to Gold Hill and back.

Richard (Rick) Kenneth Hertzog passed peacefully at Barton Hospital in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. on Friday, November 4, 2022, after a lengthy illness. He was 72 years old.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Nevada Beach Pavilion. The beach is located on Elks Point Road. There is a $10 parking fee for the state beach.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If you were looking for a summery start to the week, you'll have to go somewhere beside Lake Tahoe. A cold front will bring gusty winds and a temperature drop - something local residents have seen perhaps too much of over the last seven months.

At least no snow is in the forecast, but there will be sub-freezing temperatures before summer officially starts on Wednesday. By midweek onward more typical late-day winds return along with a rebound to milder temperatures.

Dry and sunny forecast, and it looks like the "warm" part will come at the end of the week.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Former South Tahoe High School (STHS) basketball star Jerod Haase will be honored with a brick at Champions Plaza in South Lake Tahoe on Thursday, June 22 at 2 p.m.

The public is invited to celebrate Haase's contributions to the world of sports. The plaza honors local athletes that represent South Lake Tahoe on the national and international stage.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Historical Society starts off a summer of history on the beach at Lakeview Commons, every Tuesday through August 1 (except for the 4th of July holiday).

Tahoe History Talks on the Beach feature different speakers for an hour every week, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the steps at the west side of the Commons.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - For 30 years Larry Lambdin has led Club Live at South Tahoe Middle School, guiding youth through the leadership program that promotes a healthy lifestyle by providing safe, high-energy alternative activities.

Students participate in leadership events, community service projects, club meetings, and recreational trips each year, and this week, the club was recognized for its positive impact on the youth of South Lake Tahoe.

TRUCKEE, Calif. - Vicky Benzing will join the aerial performance line-up at the Truckee Tahoe Air Show & Family Festival at Truckee Tahoe Airport on Saturday, June 24. As a renowned and celebrated aerobatic pilot, Vicky will dazzle air show visitors with her PT-17 Boeing Stearman demonstration.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT) is scheduled to resume prescribed fire operations next week at Lake Tahoe. Conditions and weather permitting, the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is scheduled to burn piles on the east side of Fallen Leaf Lake beginning Tuesday, June 20, 2023. Ignitions typically begin at 10 a.m. and smoke will be present.
