COVID-19 cases for Lake Tahoe area; Barton Hospital bed and ventilator update

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials announced six new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, five in the Lake Tahoe region, and one in the Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue area. Of the new numbers, two are male, four female, four in the 18-48 age group and two in the 50-64 age group.

No new recoveries have been reported, with that number remaining at 122. At this time there are 62 active cases of COVID-19. One positive person remains hospitalized in the ICU with one suspected case in the ICU.

182 additional people were tested for the coronavirus.

According to the county's health officer Dr. Nancy Williams, Barton Hospital in South Lake Tahoe has plans to expand its acute-care bed capacity from 63 to 130 (+106%) and its ICU and ventilator capacity from 9 to 16. It also has established a medical corps of 132 clinical and non-clinical staff to augment its regular staff if necessary in times of surge.

In Placerville, Marshall Medical Center has adequate capacity to handle emergency room, inpatient and ICU surges in the event of a new wave of infections, based on modeling of national and state data. Plans allow for expansion of acute-care bed capacity from 124 to 198 (+60%) and ICU capacity from 12 to at least 20 with similar increase in ventilator capacity.

County-wide there have been 184 cases with 93 of those in the Lake Tahoe area (including South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, Strawberry, and Tahoma).

Quad-Counties - Carson City, Douglas, Storey, Lyon

Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is reporting thirteen new positive cases and thirteen additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 346, with 243 recoveries and seven deaths, 96 cases remain active.

The new cases are:

There is a correction to a case reported on Sunday, June 28. Case #328 was reported as a female Carson City resident in her 60’s. This is corrected to a female Lyon County resident in her 60’s.

Carson City Health and Human Services is working to identify close risk contacts to prevent further spread of the disease. Due to medical privacy requirements and to protect their identity, no further information about the cases will be released.

There have been 91 new cases of confirmed COVID-19 in Placer County since FMonday, with six new cases in the Lake Tahoe area.
