Over 2,200 bags of food given to South Lake Tahoe youth this summer

It was another successful summer for the Bread & Broth 4 Kids (BB4K) team after they gave away 2,255 bags of food during their nine-week long program feeding local youth. This was almost double the number of bags given away the previous summer.

For three years, BB4K has given weekly backpacks of food to qualifying children at Bijou, Sierra House, Tahoe Valley, Magnet and South Tahoe Middle schools. During the 2017-18 school year, 5,449 backpacks of food were distributed.

The school year program was able to expand in 2017 after a very generous donation was given to Bread & Broth by Rob Katz, CEO of Vail Resorts and his wife Elana Amsterdam. With that donation, the program add weekly food bags for children during the summer months. In 2017, 1,156 bags of food were handed out to children throughout the South Lake Tahoe community from June-August.

Volunteers from the community were joined by Vail Resort employees in packing the food bags and delivering them to numerous locations on the South Shore.
