LTUSD shares next phase of South Lake Tahoe school reopening plans

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) will be adopting their previously released Pandemic Educational Plan with some modifications as they move into Phase 2 starting October 12, 2020.

During their special meeting Monday, several parents, teachers and trustees voiced their opinions and concerns representing all sides, from keeping students in Phase 1, moving to Phase 2, as well as skipping to Phase 3.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say another three residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday. Of those, two are in El Dorado Hills, one in Greater Placerville and none in the Lake Tahoe Region.

Of these new cases, two are under the age of 18 and one aged 65 or older.

Another 196 people were tested for the coronavirus and 193 negative tests results were received.

There have been another two assumed recoveries with 114 assumed active cases.

Of those, eight are in El Dorado Hills, ten in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, three in North County, two in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz, three in Greater Placerville and five in the Lake Tahoe Region.

This is the largest number of cases for a three-day period since the pandemic started.

Of these new cases, six are under the age of 18, 20 are in the 18-49 age group, four are aged 50-64 and one aged 65 or older.

The long-running tradition of the Freaker's Ball is taking a year. The 42nd annual event will be waiting one more year but organizers promise it will be better than ever. Originally scheduled to take place Saturday, October 31, MontBleu found itself, like so many venues, unable to host the annual event due to Covid-19 and social distancing guidelines in effect statewide.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A South Lake Tahoe area man has become the third person to die from COVID-19 in the county. El Dorado County officials say the deceased was in the 50-64 age group and had been hospitalized in another county.

Officials say another 14 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since Friday. Of those, seven are in South Lake Tahoe, five in El Dorado Hills, one in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, and one in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz.

Another 467 people were tested for the coronavirus and 453 negative tests results were received.

Our beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, friend and teammate William (“Jack”) Green of Huntington Beach, California tragically ended his life at the age of 19 on September 5, 2020 in Walnut Creek, Calif. His rapid decline in mental health was caused by many factors, central to which was the COVID-19 quarantine. Jack’s family and friends struggle to understand the delusion and despair which lead to this, when his life held such promise.

Fundraising underway for South Lake Tahoe man with Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The local community has been showing their love and support for Chris Hogbin and his family. Chris has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma in his neck, lungs, liver, lymph nodes and bones.

He and his wife Sonnet, and their three children "are doing the best they can under the circumstance but things are tough for them right now," said a story on GoFundMe.

Nominations sought for 29th annual Best in Basin Awards

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. — The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) is calling for nominations for projects completed in 2019 that display outstanding environmental design to be recognized in the 2019 Best in the Basin awards program, the agency announced today.

IRS and Department of Justice phone scams circulating in area

There are currently some scams currently spreading through the area from phone calls from IRS and Department of Justice impostors.

The Office of Justice Programs’ Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) has received multiple reports that individuals claiming to represent the Department of Justice are calling members of the public as part of an impostor scam. The department strongly encourages the public to remain vigilant and not to provide personal information during these calls, which appear to target the elderly.

Of the new cases, five are aged 18-49, and two aged 50-64.

An additional 180 tests were administered and 172 tests came back negative.

There have been six assumed recoveries with no confirmed patients in the hospital. There is one suspected case in the ICU.

To date, two county residents have died.

El Dorado County moves to next reopening tier Sept 21 if COVID-19 cases remain low

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County will be able to move to the next colored tier on September 21 if COVID-19 cases remain under four cases per day average and test positivity stays below five percent for two consecutive seven-day periods.

The County started off the new color-tiered reopening plan in the Red/Substantial tier due to data from the weeks of August 5-11 and August 12-18.

Safety changes: Vail moves to presale of lift tickets to manage number of guests

Heavenly, Kirkwood and Northstar, all members of the Vail Resorts family, will be operating differently during the winter season 2020/21. Vail plans on opening both Heavenly and Northstar on November 20 and Kirkwood on December 4.

Ticket sales, use of season passes and facility uses will all be handled to promote physical distancing and protect the safety of staff and guests.

Vail CEO announces $1.5M in grants to Boys & Girls Clubs and other youth organizations

Vail Resorts CEO, Rob Katz, and his wife, Elana Amsterdam announced the grant recipients of their previously announced $1.5 million donation to support youth organizations in cities surrounding Vail Resorts’ locations. Each of the 14 nonprofits receiving grants work to strengthen communities and support youth of color in urban centers across North America, including Boston, Baltimore, Chicago and Minneapolis, among others, as well as Lake Tahoe and Truckee.

Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe awards 19 scholarships

Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe (SISLT) awarded scholarships to a group of local students from South Tahoe High, George Whittell High, the Lake Tahoe Basin Fire Academy and Lake Tahoe Community College. The club, serving the community since 1959, has given out over one-million dollars to local graduates over the years.
