Prescribed fire operations begin Monday in Ward Canyon
Submitted by Editor on Sun, 04/21/2013 - 4:42pmU.S. Forest Service fuels management crews will begin prescribed fire operations on the west shore of Lake Tahoe beginning Monday, April 22. Crews expect to burn approximately 50 acres in the Ward Canyon area, south of Tahoe City. Operations may continue through the week, weather and conditions permitting.
Residents and visitors can expect to see smoke from this prescribed fire project area. Smoke may be visible on Highway 89.
Forest Service aims for 10-acre prescribed fire at South Shore
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 04/04/2013 - 3:43amIf weather conditions hold, about 10 acres will be burned in a prescribed fire today near Mewuk Drive in the South Lake Tahoe area, the U.S. Forest Service reports. Five acres are up for burning across the South Shore near Tahoe City.
Rain and high elevation snow are expected today along with breezy conditions. A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect through 11 p.m. Thursday. Winds will be out of the southwest, 10 to 15 mph with gusts to 30 mph this morning and then increasing this afternoon with gusts to 40 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Minden man jailed for making bomb threat, DUI at South Shore Lake Tahoe

Douglas County Sheriff's Office authorities have arrested a 29-year-old Minden man for making a bomb threat during a traffic stop late Saturday at Highway 50 and Kahle Drive.
At 10:58 p.m. a Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a black Dodge SRT8 at Hwy 50 and Kahle Drive, said Sgt. Pat Brooks.
The driver, Adam Smith, 29, of Minden was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. At the time, deputies noticed a wire from the front seat to the trunk. They asked Smith about the wire and, he told them, “It’s a bomb.”

I'm watching our Lake Tahoe Buyer's market turn to a Seller's market as I write this blog. The recent actions of Lake Tahoe home owners indicates to me that we are at beginning of a seller's market. In the last 30 days, 12 California homeowners withdrew their Lake Tahoe homes for sale off the market. On the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe, 4 homeowners pulled their homes off the market during the same period.

Lake Tahoe real estate had seen a steady down trend in home sales over the last few years, and the last 9 months has seen a steady upward climb. In February of 2013 buyers seemed to be on a buying frenzy and sellers were deciding not to sell and hold on for a higher sales price in the future. The big topic of conversation among Lake Tahoe Realtor's is the lack of homes for sale and how sellers are pulling their homes off of the market.

Submitted by Editor on Tue, 03/05/2013 - 12:46pmTwo prescribed fires are planned Wednesday around South Lake Tahoe near the intersection of Pioneer Trail and Al Tahoe Boulevard and along a portion of the Angora fire burn area, the U.S. Forest Service announced.
Fuels management crews expect to burn about nine acres, weather permitting. In addition, operations will begin in the Angora Fire area near Pyramid Circle. Crews expect to burn approximately 10 to 15 acres, weather permitting. Operations in both locations will continue through the week as conditions allow.
Smoke from prescribed fire impacts East Shore of Lake Tahoe
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 02/20/2013 - 2:34pmThe U.S. Forest Service reports the Glenbrook area along the east shore of Lake Tahoe is getting some of the smoke from two days of a prescribed burn operation in the hills above.
Crews burned around 100 acres Tuesday with about 35 acres remaining today. Much of the smoke from Tuesday's burning wound up in Carson City and Carson Valley. Today, the smoke is instead making its way across the east shore of the lake, the Forest Service reports.
Smoky conditions are expected to last through Wednesday into the night with anticipated clearing Thursday.

PG&E will shut off power to Building B at the County Government Center for approximately 12 hours so the county can test its main electrical switchboard. County facilities staff plan to bring in a temporary generator to power the information technologies systems, according to Russ Fackrell, county facilities manager.

Prescribed fire planned Wednesday on East Shore of Lake Tahoe

About two acres has been cleared for burning. Prescribed fires are also happening through the week on Spooner Summit where about 10 acres a day are being burned.

Applicants will be interviewed in the following order at the Special City Council meeting Tuesday, Jan. 29, beginning at 9 a.m. The first interviewee is Howard Bittner, followed by Kathay Lovell, Joan Walthall, Brooke Laine, Bruce Grego, Austin Sass, Billy Crawford, Scott Valentine, and Kay Ogden.
Lake Tahoe agency OKs updates to watercraft inspection program

The approval keeps nearly all boater fees the same and improves efficiency of service at watercraft inspection stations around the Lake Tahoe Basin in an effort to keep the $1.4 million inspection program in the black, according to agency officials.

Authorities investigate Incline Village armed robbery

Washoe County authorities are asking for the public's help in solving a Jan. 2 armed robbery at a north shore Lake Tahoe gas station in which a gun shot was fired. No one was injured.
A masked gunman entered the Incline Village Chevron gas station at 8:45 p.m. and demanded money from the clerk and then discharged a silver-colored long barrel revolver inside the store, according to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office Special Operations and Investigations Division. The clerk was not injured and no other patrons were in the store.

Fourteen arrests during Stateline Lake Tahoe New Year's festivities
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 01/01/2013 - 12:33pmThe Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports the New Years Eve celebration in the casino core area of Stateline, Lake Tahoe went as planned with 14 arrests made.
The celebratory crowd seemed no larger than in past years. Highway 50 was closed to vehicle traffic at about 11:00 p.m. for public safety reasons. The celebrants were allowed to flow into the roadway as they celebrated the coming of the New Year. The Nevada side of U.S. Highway 50 was cleared of celebrants at 12:20 am and was reopened to vehicle traffic at approximately 1 a.m. after the crowd peacefully moved off the roadway.

Due to the ordinarily high volume of celebrants within the Stateline casino core area during the event, U.S. Highway 50 may be closed to vehicle traffic in the evening if necessary for public safety. If that should occur, vehicle traffic will be diverted around the Stateline casino core area using upper and lower Lake Parkway Drive.
Woman dies, two injured in Mount Rose Highway accident

The accident happened shortly before 2 p.m. and closed the highway for more than an hour. The woman's name has not been released pending notification of family members.

The Stateline office will be closed from Monday, Dec. 24 through Tuesday, Jan. 1, in observance of the Christmas and New Year holidays. The Lake Tahoe agency's front counter staff will be available to serve customers again beginning Wednesday, Jan. 2. TRPA’s front office is usually closed on Tuesday of each week.
The TRPA website, trpa.org, contains documents, frequently asked questions and other valuable information which can assist project applicants during the holiday office closure.

The accident was reported at 7:32 a.m. The preliminary crash investigation details indicate that a silver Subaru was traveling westbound on US 50 driven by Patricia Schille, 48, of Carson City, reports Trooper Daniel Lopez.

We want to note a big fish caught by Eric St. Denis of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., pictured above. Eric caught a 28-pound, 9-ounce Mackinaw trout at Lake Tahoe on Dec. 9, at 10:30 a.m. Photos courtesy of Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters.
The Lake Tahoe record for Mackinaw Trout is a 37-pound, 6-ounce (44 inches in length) trophy caught by Robert Aronsen, way back in 1974. To date, only a handful of Macks have been caught that have weighed 30 pounds or more.

South Lake Tahoe threatens to shut down last pot shop

Tahoe Wellness Center Director Cody Bass says they have already been trying to fix the smell - the shop's has plans for construction in the works. In addition to changing the building layout, they'll also add new air flow controls. Tahoe Wellness Center has 10 days to appeal a letter of complaint sent by the city.

Recommendations Regarding 'Economic Revitalization' for South Shore Lake Tahoe

After attending the State of the South Shore Economy Public Forum held on October 23rd, 2012 I was inspired to draft a response to the questions about economic revitalization that were asked at the meeting. I feel like our group had many salient ideas that were not properly represented. Also, I have noticed that people are quick to offer ideas like “reduce unemployment”, “beautify the city”, and “improve recreation”, but they are typically unable to offer suggestions on how to make those ideas a reality.
South Lake Tahoe, Nevada Homes Sold in October

18 homes closed escrow on the Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe in October, 2012. This figure shows that interest in real estate at the lake is still strong. To date for the year there have been 127 homes to close escrow in that area, up from 118 in 2011 and 113 in 2010.
