Lake Tahoe prescribed fire operations continue Thursday at South Shore

Prescribed fire operations in the Spring Creek area near the south end of Lake Tahoe will begin Thursday, Nov. 1. The Forest Service says crews expect to burn three acres Thursday and three acres on Friday, conditions permitting.
Residents and visitors can expect to see smoke from this prescribed fire project area.

The Forest Service strives to minimize the impacts of smoke on local communities. Smoke-sensitive residents should consider staying indoors and keeping doors, windows and outside vents closed. To directly receive prescribed fire updates, send an email to pa_ltbmu@fs.fed.us.

Douglas County Dispatch received a 911 call of a structure fire at the Genoa Station Grill and Bar, which is a newer business adjacent to the Genoa Town Hall. East Fork Fire and Paramedic District along with Douglas County Sheriff’s Department and the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the scene, said DCSO Sgt. Pat Brooks.

U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews will conduct prescribed fire operations near Taylor Creek on Lake Tahoe’s South Shore and on Alice Lane in the Meeks Bay area of the West Shore on Friday, October 26, 2012. Each area is approximately one-quarter acre. On Sunday, October 28, 2012, prescribed fire operations will take place in the Timberland area of the West Shore, weather permitting.

Snow closes Lake Tahoe Unified School District schools, Whittell and Zephyr Cove delayed

All schools within the Lake Tahoe Unified School District are closed today after the first significant snow of the season blew into South Lake Tahoe Monday and overnight. Whittell High School and Zephyr Cove Elementary are open today with delays. Douglas County School District transportation operators report the school bus pick up on Upper Kingsbury will be on Tina Court and Ski Court due to icy road conditions.

West Shore of Lake Tahoe to see Forest Service prescribed fires on Tuesday

U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews will begin prescribed fire operations in the Timberland area on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe Tuesday, Oct. 23. Crews anticipate burning three to 10 acres per day, for a total of 10 to 20 acres, conditions permitting.

The South Lake Tahoe real estate market continues to see a lot of action. During the week of October 1-8, 13 homes entered the market while 6 left the market since they closed escrow.

Woman dies in Douglas County accident near valley side of Kingsbury Grade intersection

A Carson City woman died on Saturday in a single vehicle rollover accident on State Route 207 in Douglas County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
Lynette Lucille Cieri, 63, died of injuries sustained in the accident. She was not wearing a seat belt.
The accident was reported at 5:20 p.m. at State Route 207 and Mottsville Lane. The preliminary investigation indicates a 1995 light green Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound on Mottsville Lane. For an unknown reason, the Jeep entered the north dirt shoulder of Mottsville Lane before re-entering the westbound lane.

Campground at Indian Creek Reservoir to close Oct. 8

Alpine County's Indian Creek Campground, adjacent to Indian Creek Reservoir, will close for the season at noon on Oct. 8, the Bureau of Land Management Carson City District-Sierra Front Field Office announced.
The campground will be closed through winter, and reopen May 3, 2013.
The east side of Indian Creek Reservoir will still be available for access off the entry road maintained by Alpine County, weather-permitting.

Pedestrian doing OK after Sunday hit and run accident in Stateline

A 25-year-old man suffered a broken right femur and head trauma after being hit by a vehicle early Sunday morning at a crosswalk on Highway 50 in Stateline. Authorities are looking for the driver of the SUV that hit him and left the scene, which happened across from MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa.
The injured California man was flown by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno where his injuries are considered non-life threatening, said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Barbara Stapleton.

Last day of the season for three Lake Tahoe boat inspection stations

The Tahoe Resource Conservation District reminds boaters that Sunday is the last day for inspections and decontaminations at the Alpine Meadows, Spooner Summit and Meyers Inspection stations. The Homewood and Northstar Inspection Stations are currently closed.
Beginning Monday watercraft without an intact Lake Tahoe wire inspection seal will be required to visit Cave Rock or Lake Forest boat launches to be inspected prior to launching (weather permitting).

A Gardnerville woman and a Yerington man have been identified as victims in Saturday night's fatal accident on Highway 395 at Leviathan Mine Road, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports. A Reno man has also been identified. NHP will release the name of the separate Sunday morning single-vehicle crash later today.

Well known South Lake Tahoe artist Peter Darvas injured in Pioneer Trail fire

Well-known South Shore Lake Tahoe artist Peter Darvas was being treated at Barton Memorial Hospital on Tuesday evening after he tried putting out a house fire on Pioneer Trail.

Authorities said the fire, reported shortly before 6 p.m., was at the corner of Edna and Pioneer Trail. Darvas’ home, according to city records, is at 3128 Pioneer Trail – at that corner.

According to a message from City Manager Nancy Kerry to Councilman Tom Davis, Darvas was in the house and tried to put the fire out. He was being treated at Barton Memorial Hospital.

Boat Inspections at Lake Tahoe move to fall and winter ramp schedules

Following a stellar boating season at Lake Tahoe, this Thursday, Sept. 20 will be the last day of operations for the Northstar and Homewood boat inspection stations. Boat inspections and decontaminations will still be available at the Alpine, Spooner and Meyers stations until Sept. 30, 2012.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has released more information into two deadly vehicle accidents this weekend that resulted in four fatalities on Highway 395 in Douglas County. The accidents happened within a few hours of each other. The first accident, in which three people died, was reported at 11:45 p.m. Saturday night near Leviathan Mine Road on Highway 395.

Four people are dead in two overnight accidents, believed to be alcohol related, on Highway 395 in Douglas County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
The accidents happened within a few hours of each other. The first accident, in which three people died, was reported at 11:54 p.m. Saturday night near Leviathan Mine Road on Highway 395.

Woman hit by SUV on Highway 50 near Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe

A woman was hit by a SUV near the crosswalk across from McP's Pub on Highway 50 near Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe late Saturday night. A CareFlight air ambulance was called and the woman was to be taken to Renown Medical Center in Reno.
At the time paramedics arrived to the accident the woman was breathing but unresponsive, unconscious, with blood coming from her neck and head area. The accident was reported at 11:45 p.m.

Lam Watah trailhead parking at Stateline closed through mid-October

The Tahoe Transportation District and the U.S. Forest Service are asking the public to park in alternate locations to access the Lam Watah Trail while work is underway on improvements that are part of the Nevada Stateline-to-Stateline Bike Path project - Phase 1B. Lam Watah Trailhead parking normally is located on the north side of U.S. Highway 50 just past the casinos in Stateline, Nev., on Kahle Drive.

Closed sales of South Lake Tahoe homes continue to rise in August

The August real estate figures are in for South Lake Tahoe and there are no surprises. We continue to see increased sales, decreased new listings and decreased number of homes on the market. The only thing that really isn't following the expected pattern is the median home price of homes sold in the area.

Forest Service resumes work on Pope-Baldwin Bike Path

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will resume work on the Pope-Baldwin Bike Path the week of Sept. 17. The path is located near the south end of Lake Tahoe and runs along Highway 89 for about three miles.
The path will be seal-coated beginning on the west end near Spring Creek. For safety reasons, sections of the path will be closed at times to pedestrian/bike traffic. Work is expected to last about a week.
