Accident ties up eastbound lane of Highway 50 at Glenbrook
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 08/20/2012 - 4:31pmA two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon has tied up traffic on Highway 50 at Glenbrook. As of 4:27 p.m. the eastbound lane was closed and traffic was being pushed around to the westbound lane. One person reportedly suffered injuries to their foot. Moderate to major damage to vehicles was reported and airbags were deployed. Three other people were said to be uninjured. The accident was reported at 4:18 p.m.

Man dies after being hit by vehicle on Lake Tahoe Boulevard near Pioneer Trail
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 08/14/2012 - 9:31pmUPDATE 3PM: South Lake Tahoe authorities say a 49-year-old man dressed in dark clothes was struck and killed by a van after attempting to cross Lake Tahoe Boulevard outside of the crosswalk.
More details have been released by South Lake Tahoe Police Department regarding Tuesday night's fatal accident that shut down Lake Tahoe Boulevard / Highway 50 from Pioneer Trail to Midway for about three hours. The driver of the van that hit the pedestrian has been cleared of any wrong-doing, according to Sgt. Brad Williams. The investigation is continuing and the identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of family members.
Update: 4 Motorists Killed, 3 Injured in Three-Vehicle Crash on US 50 in Lyon County
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 08/14/2012 - 7:08pmThe names of the four people killed in a fiery crash Tuesday on Highway 50 near Dayton in Lyon County may be released on Wednesday, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. The accident happened shortly before 9:00 a.m. east of Dayton and involved two pickups and a one-ton truck each towing a trailer with two transporting cattle. The four who died and the three injured are all believed to be from Northern Nevada.

Gas leak plugged, evacuation lifted in South Lake Tahoe

The leak forced the closure of Highway 50 between Fairway Avenue and Herbert Avenue from 11 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. No injuries were reported. Here is the press statement:

South Lake Tahoe Real Estate Figures for June 2012

Closed home sales saw a dramatic increase, both over last year's sales figures as well as those from last month. In June of 2012 there were 81 closes home sales, the highest figure in over 6 years. If you break apart the figures and look at sales in the different price ranges, the homes which sold at $300,000 or less saw a 54 percent gain in sales over last year.

This year's crop of organic produce will find its way to South Lake Tahoe beginning June 5 and extend throughout summer at the American Legion Hall parking lot and Fridays starting June 22 on Ski Run Boulevard.
The Certified Farmers' Market will run from 8 a.m to 1 p.m. each Tuesday through Oct. 9 at the American Legion Hall parking lot. Produce is picked within hours of market days and visitor can talk directly to the farmer and learn about new varieties of fruits and vegetables and farming practices.

Work to begin Pope-Baldwin Bike Path repair project
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 05/10/2012 - 9:40amThe U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will begin work to repair the Pope-Baldwin Bike Path on Monday, May 14, 2012. The Pope- Baldwin Bike Path is located near the south end of Lake Tahoe and runs along Hwy. 89 for approximately three miles.
Repair work will include fixing cracks and holes and eliminating bumps. The repair project is intended to improve safety and accessibility, while increasing the trail's lifespan.

Forest Service reminds public of continued road closures

Forest Service law enforcement officers have observed widespread violations of road closures this winter. In particular, officers have issued a number of warnings and citations for driving on Forest Road 1306, which leads to Camp Shelly and Camp Concord, off Hwy. 89 North.

Apparently water is cascading into the street causing portions of the road to buckle, according to dispatch.
Hobart Reservoir to open for 2012 fishing season
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 04/23/2012 - 8:47amHobart Reservoir, a small, high-mountain reservoir, located at an elevation of 7,600 feet in the mountains between Carson City and Lake Tahoe, will open for the 2012 fishing season on May 1.
Because of its high elevation and location, this reservoir is normally covered with ice, and surrounded by deep snow drifts, when it opens on May 01.
However, this year is entirely different, ice and snow-wise. It will remain open to fishing through September 30.

Prescribed fire operations continue this week on Kingsbury Grade

Residents and visitors can expect to see smoke from this prescribed fire project area. The Forest Service strives to minimize the impacts of smoke on local communities. Homewood Mountain Resort Extends its Season
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 04/09/2012 - 4:20amWith the recent snowfall and fantastic spring conditions Homewood Mountain Resort will reopen the weekend of April 13-15, (Friday through Sunday) giving skiers and riders and extra weekend on the mountain.
Depending on weather conditions, the resort will plan to have the mountain open for guests from top to bottom. Shuttles will operate between the North/South lodges every five minutes throughout the weekend. As always, the shuttle rides are complimentary. Lifts open 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
