Van Sessions sensation Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers will open for the Steve Miller Band at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena June 22 at Harveys Lake Tahoe.

Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers arrived to international recognition with the viral 2012 video for their "Van Session" cover of Hall and Oates "I Can't Go For That." The video features the band, in their van, performing the song on travel-sized instruments. This particular session has garnered over 2 million hits and the Van Sessions have 2.5 million hits overall.

Fish without a license on the Nevada side Saturday, June 8

Here’s an advance notice of something very special in the outdoor world that will occur in just a few days: Draw a great big red circle around the date of Saturday, June 8 on your calendar and then plan to have a fun-filled day in the Great Outdoors.

June 8 is Nevada’s Free Fishing Day for the year 2013. On that day, you can fish anywhere you want, and not need a Nevada fishing license or a Nevada Trout Stamp or a Nevada Second Rod Stamp.

Phish will return to South Shore Lake Tahoe for its 2013 Summer Tour, according to the band's website. Shows are set for the Harveys Outdoor Concert Series July 30-31.

With the bitter January cold weather in the Sierra and above Lake Tahoe behind us, we do have plenty of water frozen on our creeks, streams, rivers, ponds, lakes and reservoirs. And that ice covering provides an excellent opportunity to catch fish.
Ice fishing is a unique sport that requires a whole different set of fishing techniques, gear and clothing, as opposed to lazy fishing on a warm, drowsy day in the middle of the summer. Agency, search and rescue host kids Winter Wilderness Survival program

For the past 17 years, North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue have collaborated together to teach the 4th graders at Incline Elementary School about Winter Wilderness Survival, better known as the “Hug-A-Tree” program. The program focuses on teaching children what to do should they ever find themselves lost in the wilderness. This year the program will be held at the Incline Elementary School on Wednesday, Feb. 6.

Avalanche search training continues this week at Mt. Rose Summit Highway

The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District will continue its avalanche training on Wednesday and Friday at the Mt. Rose Summit Highway, across from the summit parking lot area.

Missing snowboarder found alive, stayed overnight at Horizon

A search for missing snowboarder Corey Hoffman ended this morning when the Douglas County Sheriff's Office was contacted by a family member who informed them that Hoffman had phoned his father and advised he had spent the night at Horizon Casino Resort.

Deputies contacted Corey at the Stagecoach Lodge where he had proceeded to, and according to him he was unaware of the search for him. After a lengthy interview with Corey and his brother who had reported him missing, we are unable to determine exactly what transpired.

North Lake Tahoe launches first-ever free ski shuttle

Getting to North Lake Tahoe’s snowy ski slopes just got a whole lot easier with the launch of the region's first area-wide free ski shuttle serving North Lake Tahoe, Truckee and Donner Summit.

The service runs between area lodging properties to 9 different ski resorts on weekends and holiday weeks now through March 31. It was formed through a collaboration of the North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association in partnership with the Truckee/North Tahoe Transportation Management Association and Placer County, the town of Truckee and several ski resorts.

New Year’s Eve is nearly here! Once again South Lake Tahoe is hosting an officially sanctioned event where our locals and visitors can go and celebrate, rather than congregating at the Stateline on U.S. Highway 50. The three-day SnowGlobe Music Festival begins on Dec. 29, and will be held on the sports field adjacent to Lake Tahoe Community College on Al Tahoe Boulevard.

National Winter Trails Day at Van Sickle State Park

As part of National Winter Trails Day, the Tahoe Rim Trail Association will host free guided hikes on Jan. 12, 2013 from 10am to 2pm through the newly opened Van Sickle State Park behind Harrah’s Casino at Stateline South Shore Lake Tahoe.

There will also be outdoor gear demonstrations, raffle prizes, and a Warming Party at Explore Tahoe after the hikes.

This South Lake Tahoe event is a family-friendly introduction to snowshoeing and to winter opportunities on the Tahoe Rim Trail. Participants will have to bring their own shoes, snacks, water and warm clothing.

The Lake Tahoe record for Mackinaw Trout is a 37-pound, 6-ounce (44 inches in length) trophy caught by Robert Aronsen, way back in 1974. To date, only a handful of Macks have been caught that have weighed 30 pounds or more.

Last Thursday, Elaine and I spent an enjoyable morning (as usual) fishing for Mackinaw (Lake) Trout at Lake Tahoe with our longtime friend and sport fishing guide, Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters at South Lake Tahoe, Calif.

"Gino" has fished Tahoe for some 30 years and is one of the top, if not the top, fishing guides at that lake.
Sigh, and as usual on that day, Man's Favorite Sport belonged to Elaine for the fourth straight year!

Tahoe Fund Presents $10,000 Check for Nevada’s Highest Priority Restoration Project

The environmental non-profit Tahoe Fund presented a $10,000 check today to the Nevada interagency team responsible for implementing thestate’s highest priority Lake Tahoe restoration project, the Third Creek and Incline Creek watershed project. The grant finances a pedestrian bridge over Incline Creek to provide a recreational amenity in the heart of Incline Village and support the Environmental Improvement Program to improve lake clarity and recreational opportunities in the Tahoe Basin.
