Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/02/2018 - 4:13pmThe 4th of July is not only a fun holiday, but it is a very busy one in Lake Tahoe. Due to heavy holiday traffic, Caltrans will suspend their roadwork projects at the lake.
Roadwork on U.S. Highway 50 from the "Y" intersection to the Trout Creek Bridge will be suspended starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 3. The regular weekly construction schedule will resume at 9 p.m. Thursday, July 5.
Although construction will be suspended for the holiday, there will be heavy traffic and work zones will still be set up. Please "Be Work Zone Alert."

State Route 49 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $22 million project to replace the South Fork American River Bridge in Coloma-Lotus. Big changes for Wye in North Lake Tahoe as iconic features removed
Submitted by paula on Wed, 05/23/2018 - 1:44pmThere are still trout in the Lake Tahoe Basin, but soon there will no longer the large trout sculpture that for years has greeting people to the town of North Lake Tahoe.
The iconic 21-foot trout sculpture has been sitting in the island intersection between State Route 89 and State Route 28 along with the Williamson Tree and Rotary Club flagpole.
Fanny Bridge/SR-89 project in full swing, expect delays in Tahoe City
Submitted by paula on Mon, 05/07/2018 - 3:11pmWork resumed May 1 on the SR 89/Fanny Bridge Community Revitalization Project in Tahoe City, a project that will bring a new Truckee River Bridge, three roundabouts, and street improvements including lights and sidewalks.
The old Fanny Bridge will be replaced with one that has a new bridge rail that matches the original bridge rail, plus there will now be sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides.

Roadwork season returns in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sat, 04/28/2018 - 9:20amThe three-year long, $56.9 million Caltrans project on a two-mile stretch of Highway 50 from the Y to the Trout Creek Bridge is set to resume next week in South Lake Tahoe.
Scope of work in 2018 is from Winnemucca Avenue to Silver Dollar Avenue as well as repaving the “Y” intersection. Work is scheduled to begin Monday, April 30 at 6:00 a.m. from Winnemucca Avenue working east. The work schedule for May will be from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The .6 mile stretch of road will receive Class 1 and Class 2 bike lanes, parallel parking spots, reduced lane size, lighted sidewalks, underground utilities, landscaping, crosswalks and water quality improvements.

As part of the process, an The Initial Sturdy/Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND) is now up for review and public comment. Comments can be made until March 26, 2018.
Special City Council meeting to decide Kerry's fate; Meston outlines plans

The council will be meeting in closed session on Monday, February 12, 2018 to discuss the situation. Their agenda item, "PUBLIC EMPLOYEE DISCIPLINE/DISMISSAL/RELEASE Pursuant to Government Code Section 54957(b)" starts at 9:00 a.m.
That section of code allows special and closed session meetings to consider the appointment, employment, evaluation of performance, discipline, or dismissal of a public employee.

Funded by grants, the .6 mile stretch of Sierra Boulevard starting at Highway 50 will have Class 1 and Class 2 bike lanes, parallel parking spots, reduced lane size, lighted sidewalks, underground utilities, landscaping, crosswalks and water quality improvements.

Highway 50 roadwork in South Lake Tahoe extended through November
Submitted by paula on Tue, 10/31/2017 - 8:24amConstruction on U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe will be extended through the end of November, weather permitting. The work remaining includes the installation of new traffic signals at Tahoe Keys Boulevard and 3rd Street.
Expect lane closures and extra traffic on U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe from the "Y" to Winnemucca Avenue during these final stages.
The project is a three-year one and includes water quality improvements, a new stop light at Lodi, timed traffic lights from the Y to Trout creek, bike lanes, bus pull outs, sidewalks and retaining walls.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) will be closed to vehicle traffic in each direction around Emerald Bay from approximately 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 15 during the Lake Tahoe Marathon. U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from 5 Mile Road to Carson Road in Camino: Eastbound motorists can expect the left turn lanes to be closed at 5 Mile Road, lower Carson Road and upper Carson Road from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, October 8 and Saturday October 14 for Apple Hill Season. Motorists will be directed to Exit 54/Cedar Grove to access Carson Road.

Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/21/2017 - 10:30pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Caltrans work in South Lake Tahoe is normally suspended at 11:00 a.m. on Fridays due to weekend traffic, but weather this week has caused roadwork to go through the day September 22.
Highway 50 will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Dunlap Drive to Winnemucca Avenue on Friday to allow for paving and striping from about 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The work again will be dependent on weather and temperature conditions.

Submitted by paula on Sun, 09/10/2017 - 6:51pmMotorists can expect longer delays on the Highway 50 project in South Lake Tahoe starting at midnight tonight as increased lane restrictions go into place for the rest of the construction season.
Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Monday, and around the clock until 11:00 a.m. Friday each week, Highway 50 (Lake Tahoe Boulevard) will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Dunlap Drive to Winnemucca Avenue to accommodate grinding and paving operations. Motorists can expect delays of up to 30 minutes.
Expect these lane restrictions to be in place until Friday, October 13.

Submitted by paula on Fri, 09/01/2017 - 5:36pmWork on the $56 million Highway 50 project in South Lake Tahoe is suspended for the Labor Day weekend, but once the holiday traffic leaves drivers can expect longer delays when lane restrictions are increased.
Starting Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 12:01 a.m., contractor Security Paving Inc. may reduce the highway to one open lane iSn each direction around the clock until 11 a.m. on Fridays.
Beginning Sept. 10, work will be around the clock from midnight Sunday to 11 a.m. Friday each week, with weekends free of construction. Motorists can expect delays of up to 30 minutes.

First peek into Sierra Boulevard Complete Streets Project
Submitted by paula on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 1:00amThe City of South Lake Tahoe is creating a new design of Sierra Boulevard that will introduce Class 1 and Class 2 bike lanes, parallel parking spots, reduced lane size and lighted sidewalks. Called the Sierra Boulevard Complete Streets Project, work is expected to get underway on the .6 mile stretch of road in the summer of 2018, but not everyone is happy about it.
At the first of two community information meetings on Thursday night, City and NCE representatives gave an overview of the planned project, had a question and answer period and shared preliminary designs of Sierra Blvd.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/07/2017 - 4:55pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - "We've been waiting to be in South Lake Tahoe for a long time," said R. Adam Smith, Executive Director of Store Development for Whole Foods in Northern California. "Couldn't be more thrilled than to be here today."
Smith took part in Monday's groundbreaking at the new Bijou Marketplace along with the Jim Halferty and Chris Peto of Halferty Development Ground, the owners of the property along Highway 50 and the corner of Ski Run Boulevard, and local officials.
