With funds from the Forest Service employee association’s Wellness, Recreation and Morale fund, the B&B cooks prepared beef tacos, Mexican black beans and Spanish rice to celebrate the upcoming Cino de Mayo holiday.
Howard Bittner - March 7, 1950 to April 17, 2016
Submitted by paula on Sat, 05/07/2016 - 8:58pmHoward Bittner, a longtime South Lake Tahoe resident and chiropractor died April 17, 2016 after fighting a lengthy illness. He was 66.
Howard had been struggling with Pemphigus Vulgaris, an autoimmune disease, for the last 18 months.
Howard Henry Bittner was born on March 7, 1950, in Akron, Ohio. After growing up in Arizona and California, he attended Santa Barbara Community College before enlisting in the Navy. Howard graduated with honors from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Iowa in 1980.

It's always a sign of crab season when the St. Theresa Catholic Church holds their annual crab dinner in South Lake Tahoe. This year marks the 22nd year they've held the fundraiser.
This year, the dinner will be held on Friday, February 12. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with their famous dessert auction at 7:45 p.m.
Tickets are $45 in advance or $50 at the door. Tickets are being sold at the Rectory Office located at 1041 Lyons Ave. and at the Religious Education Office at 1081 Lyons Ave., both in South Lake Tahoe. Must be at least 21 to attend.

Submitted by paula on Sat, 12/05/2015 - 12:43amEvery Friday for the last 6 years, Bread & Broth has been partnering with Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church (LTCPC) to feed the hungry through the “Second Serving” program. “Second Serving” meals consist of soup and a simple entrée such as pasta dishes, Sloppy Joes and chili cheese dogs which are served from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Family room of the LTCPC. These meals complement the Bread & Broth Monday evening full-course dinners served at St. Theresa Church Grace Hall.

In addition to donating $250, Riva Gill sent a sponsor crew who brought their dining skills to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the evening’s guests.
Bread & Broth 4 Kids needs volunteers and donations

The bag of food is to help with meals when they aren't in school and able to receive free breakfasts and lunches Monday through Friday.
Bread & Broth is a non-profit, all volunteer organization that provides free, hot meals to those in need in South Lake Tahoe. They are now seeking donations and volunteers for the new kid's program.

St. Theresa Catholic Church is hosting the 21st Annual Crab Dinner on Friday, February 13, 2015. The event will take place at Grace Hall, on the corner of Highway 50 and Lyons Avenue in South Lake Tahoe, right next to the church.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. with cocktails and a silent auction, the crab dinner starting at 7 p.m., followed by the dessert auction at 7:45 p.m. If that weren't already enough, there is a raffle and live auction beginning at 8:30 p.m.
Amada Soriano Masellones 1935-2014

Amada was born June 9, 1935, in Calape, Bohol, Philippines to Jorge and Macra Soriano. She attended and graduated from Silos Vocational School of Dressmaking in the Philippines on February 14, 1953.
Power being restored in South Lake Tahoe; Trees being cleared off lines and roadways
Submitted by paula on Thu, 12/11/2014 - 11:56pmHigh winds kept emergency personnel busy throughout the day on Thursday. Downed power lines and trees wrecked havoc on the South Shore where many residents were without power for much of the day and evening.
A 200 ft tall tree fell at St. Theresa's Catholic Church just before noon. A photo of the tree barely missing the statue of St. Theresa in front of the church made it to the national news via Associated Press according to Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District Marshall Eric Guevin. Most of the damage was to the tree.
Patty Olson receives Spirit of Philanthropy Award
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/05/2014 - 11:28pmEvery year, the Barton Foundation recognizes a philanthropist that stands out above the rest. This year, the Foundation has selected Patty Olson as the beneficiary of their Spirit of Philanthropy award.
Patty moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1950 and was instrumental in in the creation of Barton Memorial Hospital. She was a founding member of the Barton Auxiliary and helped organize the Auxiliary's first fundraiser for the hospital. She hosted many other Barton fundraising events at Young's Bijou Lodge, which she and her husband Neal Olson owned and operated.

She was well known as the owner of Simpson’s Jewelers in South Lake Tahoe since 1966, and was not only a fine businesswoman, but an amazing, beautiful soul who loved life to its fullest and a very generous person to so many.

LTCC Mourns Unexpected Death of Tahoe Firefighter, Former Instructor
Submitted by paula on Wed, 10/02/2013 - 2:35pmLake Tahoe Community College joins the Lake Valley Fire Protection District in mourning the unexpected loss of firefighter paramedic Brandon “Mitch” Underhill. The 34-year-old, known as Mitch, died Sunday, September 29th.
Underhill has been an instructor at LTCC as part of the Lake Tahoe Basin Fire Academy since 2009. He joined the Lake Valley Fire District in 2005, and served the community for just over 8 years in that capacity. He is survived by his wife, two young children, his parents, and his brother and sister.
