Back Roads - Lake Tahoe to Apple Hill via Highway 4

My daughter and I had been planning our annual Apple Hill trek for several days when I decided to change it up a bit. Since my free time is so rare I figured why not include a visit to our favorite little town Sutter Creek? And then, since we're doing that, might as well throw in a drive down beautiful Highway 4! Since the portion of the road we'll be covering is closed after the first big snow we had to do it! The day was plotted on a map in my head with some verification on google maps. The map said our little trip was going to take 5 hours and 10 minutes and cover 225 miles.

Tour de Tahoe Success for South Tahoe High Sophomore

South Lake Tahoe teen Mykala Muskovitz completed Sunday's Tour de Tahoe's 72 mile course around Lake Tahoe in just 4.5 hours. While some riders were faster, Mykala's ride was filled with passion and compassion as she rode to raise money to sponsor under privileged dancers at Lake Tahoe's Shining Stars and to buy winter hats and gloves for the children at Live Violence Free.

Tahoe Expo 2013: Geotourism and Sustainability

Jack Durst of Fabulous Lake Tahoe brought out his camera and interviewing skills to the third annual Tahoe Expo geotourism event this weekend at Lakeview Commons in South Lake Tahoe. The event is designed for Lake Tahoe to show its environmentally-friendly side by promoting healthy, fun activities such as biking, hiking, paddleboarding, kayaking and more.

The event featured Stand Up Paddle Yoga, an electric bike tour, information on preserving Tahoe's water quality, and a demonstration of Native American music and culture from the Washoe tribe.

Double Neck Guitar Phenom Plays Benefit Concert at South Tahoe High School

The show is $10 and tickets are available at the door.

El Dorado County man sentenced for bilking families of millions in investment fraud scheme

A former El Dorado County resident was sentenced Thursday to four years and nine months in prison and ordered to pay $2.8 million in restitution, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.

Daniel Chartraw, 40, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Morrison C. England Jr., after he pled guilty to wire fraud on Jan. 24, 2013. Many victims submitted letters discussing the impact of Chartraw’s fraud on their finances and their families, according to a news release.

Pilot, two passengers escape injury after plane crashes near Spooner; FAA team arrives at crash site

A pilot and two passengers escaped injury Wednesday after a plane crash northeast of Spooner in the Kings Canyon area, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong confirmed.

The passengers of the aircraft were taken by Carson City Fire and Rescue to the staging area at the Kings Canyon Trailhead where they signed statements with the Carson City Sheriff's Office. Both declined comment. An official at the scene said the three had taken a flight to celebrate the birthday of a 23-year-old female passenger and that both passengers were shaken and didn't wish to speak. It is believed but not confirmed the flight originated from Lake Tahoe.
