Spring Bounty fundraiser and film festival for Sierra Nevada Alliance

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Sierra Nevada Alliance will host a special Earth Day event to benefit conservation efforts in the Sierra Nevada on April 22 in the Grand Hall at the historic Valhalla. The Spring Bounty Dinner fundraiser starts at 5 p.m. and the evening will include live music, mingling, and refreshments in the bar, an Earth Day Fair with tabling by over 15 local organizations, and a silent auction featuring lots of great prizes from local ski resorts, hotels, and others.

El Dorado Community Foundation opens grants cycle for nonprofits

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado Community Foundation has opened its consolidated grants cycles for nonprofit organizations that fit the individual categories.

Non-profit organizations are welcome to apply for multiple grants so long as they are in good standing with the IRS, SOS, and DOJ, qualify for what is being offered, and serve residents in El Dorado County.

All grant cycles will close on Thursday, May 16, 2024.

Kudos: Heavenly Mountain Resort sponsors Bread & Broth Adopt A Day

Bread & Broth’s (B&B) Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsorship program is a way for individuals, families, organizations, and businesses to participate in and contribute to B&B’s Monday Meal. The program began in 2011 and Vail Resort’s EpicPromise Grant has been funding 12 Adopt A Day Monday Meals annually since the program began. Over 250 Vail team members from Heavenly Mountain Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort have volunteered and served others in the 132 meals the Vail EpicPromise grant has funded.

Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation expands grant opportunities at Lake Tahoe

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - Thanks to the generosity of its donors, Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation expands its charitable aid to nonprofit organizations by cultivating philanthropy and making grants, supporting the people and places of Tahoe. In 2023, the Community Foundation awarded $12.1 Million in grants to nonprofits, the largest amount granted in a year to date. 2023 also marked the addition of a new opportunity for donors to co-invest in its Community Impact Grants as well as a new grant program intended to meet more immediate nonprofit needs.

Tahoe Prosperity Center seeks projects that drive economic growth at Lake Tahoe

Douglas County Sheriff's Office embraces National Autism Awareness Month

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. – April is National Autism Awareness Month, and to raise awareness, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is displaying its annual wrapped vehicle with colorful puzzle pieces for the fifth year in a row. The special wrap offers a way for children and adults with autism to meet the DCSO team in a casual setting and to encourage caretakers of those on the spectrum to sign up for the Douglas County Autism Recognition Alert Program.

May 16 ceremony set for Lake Tahoe Unified School District Hall of Distinction

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) is introducing its inaugural Hall of Distinction honorees. In November 2023, LTUSD asked for nominations for the program which acknowledges the outstanding achievements of former students, employees, and contributors to the school community.

After a meticulous review process, a committee of local community members selected the inaugural inductees. The committee selected three people for the Distinguished Service category, one for the Retired or Former Employee category, and one for the Former Student category.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — South Lake Tahoe’s first indoor mini golf course, Flatstick Pub, also known as Tipsy Putt, will be teaming up with Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe (SISLT) to give back to South Lake Tahoe’s community.

Each Sunday in April from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Flatstick Pub will donate $1 for every beer and $1 for every round of mini golf purchased to SISLT.

Master Gardeners news: Teaching students to grow microgreens; Grow-Your-Own Festival

This UCCE Master Gardeners of Lake Tahoe (LTMG) recently taught lessons on how to grow microgreens to 11 classes of third graders at four school sites within Lake Tahoe Unified School District, and the second graders at Zephyr Cove Elementary. This project is part of a larger effort to involve more students in the community in gardening. About 250 students got to plant their own microgreen seeds and learn how to grow and use them.

The local Special Olympic group seeks volunteers to work with athletes in their swim program. You don't have to be a "seasoned" coach, but you do need to enjoy working with this population. This Earth Day, Ditch Plastics and Protect Tahoe

Fundraising site for North Lake Tahoe 7-year-old snowboarder heading to USASA Nationals

A 7-year-old Tahoe City athlete is heading to the USASA Nationals Snowboarding Championships from March 29-April 9, and he is fundraising to help with expenses including airfare, entry fees, hotel, rental car, and food.

"Leland the Falcon" Vogt is the son of Chuck Vogt, the founder of nonprofit fundraising events Skake The Lake, Boarding for Breast Cancer, and owner of Tahoe Longboards.

Thanks to our generous community who donated to our event, sponsored the skiers & riders and bought countless raffle tickets, we hit our fundraising goal. After a fun day on the slopes with over 40 participants (a record in itself), we continued our holiday celebration back at the temple to be entertained with a wonderful Barbie-themed Purim Shpiel (a play that tells the story of Purim) written & directed by our temple member and theatre master, Pam Taylor. The actors were our religious school students who put on a magnificent performance.

Marcella Foundation partners with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to offer free books each month

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Literacy at a young age is important, and studies show that children exposed to reading before preschool tend to develop larger vocabularies and are more likely to succeed during their formal education. If a child is not proficient in reading by 3rd grade, they are at a higher risk of not graduating from high school.

It is due to these studies that today's news can be a game changer for the 8,000 children living in El Dorado County.

Amateur Radio Technican License Review and Test Session

Tahoe Amateur Radio Association provides a “One Day” review and Exam Session know as a “Ham Cram” on April 27, 2024.

Our Ham Cram day is like a “study cram” before taking your final exam.

Summer interest forms available on April 1st for Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe will open interest forms for its summer program and summer camps on April 1. The Club will be open for summer from June 24 to August 16 though they will be closed July 4-5 for the holiday. Hours of operation will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack will be provided for FREE. Next free Learning Haven forum: Financial planning for higher education

The Tahoe Learning Haven's April forum will focus on financial savings plans for higher education in California and Nevada. This forum is for parents of students who plan to attend some form of higher education after high school.

The free forum will be held on April 3 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe.

Some financial plans provide free funds (CalKids) for qualifying families. Both California and Nevada representatives will discuss 529 plans that are simple and easy to set up and use.

Sierra House to celebrate classmates on World Down Syndrome Day

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It is Crazy Sock Day at Sierra House Elementary on Thursday to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day. Everyone is being encouraged to wear crazy, mismatched, silly, wild, or bright socks to school to recognize the five Down syndrome students who attend the school in South Lake Tahoe.

Not only will everyone be wearing the crazy socks, but the school will be decorated in colored paper socks.

24th Annual Snapshot Day
