Need help promoting good conduct and communicating with your dog? Then this class is for you and your dog. Instructor Guy uses a light handed approach to help you to teach your dog to obey the commands: heel, sit, stay and recall. Each dog needs a training collar, a fabric or leather lead. Dog must be at least 4 months old. Bring a copy of shot records to the first class.

Mountain Lion Aviation gives back to Tahoe for every hour in the air

Every hour flown by Mountain Lion Aviation this year has helped the Tahoe Fund get more work done on the ground to improve the Lake Tahoe environment.

At the beginning of the year, the private aviation charter company teamed up with the Tahoe Fund to donate funds for every hour flown. Now, they have contributed nearly $17,000 to support projects that are helping lower and sequester carbon emissions, including:

Tonight's bedtime readers are Chris and Kathy Campion. Kathy is a former USFS Wildlife biologist and current Aspen Hollow plant expert. She says, “We read with our kids and grandkids every night because reading is the gateway to learning everything else in the world.”

Husband Chris, a retired FBI agent, adds, “I like reading mysteries to visit other worlds where crimes are always solved in a few hours and it’s never who you think.”

Kudos: South Tahoe Association of Realtors provides 200 gifts to local youth

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Tahoe Association of Realtors (STAR) delivered 200 gifts to 99 members of the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe.

STAR has an Annual Wish Tree event where affiliates and members of the community “adopt” members from the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe and purchase, wrap, and deliver gifts. This has been the biggest year, with an additional 28 kids receiving gifts compared to last year.

El Dorado County Commission on Aging seeks new members

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Commission on Aging currently is accepting applications from interested residents for two vacant commissioners. The Commission strives to attain a balanced geographic representation and applicants are sought from all areas of the county, including South Lake Tahoe. Preference is given to individuals aged 60 years and older.

South Tahoe Middle School students awarded prizes for how they'd "Be The Change"

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Winners have been selected in the Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) art and writing contests at South Tahoe Middle School.

The service club helped sponsor "Challenge Day" on November 30 and a Challenge Day assembly on December 1. The two-day event is a program that helps students connect across lines of difference, giving a sense of belonging, and giving students the tools to create the culture they want in the school.

The theme of the Challenge Day program is to "Be the Change."

Lucky Beaver Bar & Grill treats Douglas County Sheriff's Office and court staff with holiday dinner

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Once again, the Lucky Beaver Bar & Burger provided a holiday meal for Douglas County court staff, Judge Mike Johnson, and law enforcement at the lake. The aroma of a substantial feast spread throughout the courthouse on December 20th as a turkey and all the trimmings were shared.

Alpine County recognized for achievement in post-fire recovery and disaster relief efforts

Santa's elves visit the Children's Memorial Tree in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Elves did it again!! They visited the South Lake Tahoe Children's Memorial Tree in the park at Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Wildwood Avenue for the 13th straight year, leaving behind signs of Christmas with stockings and decorations.

There is a stocking at the tree for the over 250 children who are memorialized there.

Northern Nevada Confederation of Clubs Reno Toy Run helps out Christmas Cheer

Since 1997, the Northern Nevada Confederation of Clubs has been able to help make a real difference for literally hundreds of Northern Nevada families in need through the annual Reno Toy Run.

The club says they are realistic about this and while they may not be able to fix everything, they can bring hope to the community. That is the real meaning of Christmas - HOPE. 

"We are all neighbors, we are our community, with the help of our partners we did not sit by and think there is nothing we can do about it - We all made it happen here," said the leadership of the Reno Toy Run.

Everyone invited to run in South Tahoe High Track Team's Santa Fun Run

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Tahoe High School Track Team is getting into the holiday spirit and spreading holiday cheer by holding the inaugural Santa Fun Run on Saturday, December 16 at 11:30 a.m.

The students are holding the Fun Run as a fundraising event and members of the community can run, sponsor, or both! They hope that this run will become a holiday favorite for years to come, bringing the community together while making a positive impact.

Participants will be running a 2.5-mile course at South Tahoe Middle School.

McNamaras donate vehicle to LTUSD for drivers training classes

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It isn't every day that someone gives away a car, but that is exactly what happened Thursday at the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Board of Trustees meeting.

The trustees accepted the donation of a car to be used for the high school driver's training classes from locals Chris and Viktoria McNamara. They needed to get a larger car now that they are hosting an exchange student from Sweden, so they donated their 2015 Volvo V60 T5 AWD.

"We are big fans of this community," Chris told Superintendent Dr. Todd Cutler and the Board.

Optimist Tree Lot in South Lake Tahoe running short on trees - closing Sunday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club Christmas Tree Lot is almost out of trees and they will soon be closing.

With about 100 trees remaining as of Wednesday, they will close up shop for the season on Sunday at 6 p.m.

All proceeds from the tree sales go to support local youth.

The lot opens on weekdays at 12 p.m. and closes at 7 p.m., then weekends 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. They are located in the Lakeview Commons parking lot on Harrison and Lakeview avenues.

Santa arrives at Lake Tahoe Airport's Flightdeck on Saturday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The jolly guy in the red suit is ditching the reindeer Saturday and heading to the Flightdeck Bar & Grill at the Lake Tahoe Airport to spend time with the kids.

As the reindeer rest for the big trip around the world the following week, Santa Claus will arrive by helicopter at 2 p.m. on December 16 and head to the Flightdeck for some special one-on-one time with the kids who will be eagerly waiting to share their wish lists.

Every child will get to chat with Santa for perfect photo opportunities and they will each receive a small gift.

In a heartwarming initiative, the RennerVation Foundation, led by founder Jeremy Renner who lives part-time in the Mt. Rose area, delivered the enchantment of Christmas to 140 deserving youth. The inaugural RennerVation Christmas Celebration, held on December 9, 2023, in Virginia City, was a magical affair that was part of the town’s Christmas on the Comstock December events.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Imagine picking up a book in 2023 stating that "someday man will walk on the moon." One would correctly guess that the book is too old to be in a library. There are old books like this in South Lake Tahoe school libraries, and Lift Literature is on a mission to refresh those libraries with current books. Libraries are a hub for inspiration, as well as powerful and critical information. More often than not, the school library is the only place Tahoe kids have access to books.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Students in grades 6-8 at South Tahoe Middle School (STMS) experienced Challenge Day last week. It was a day of connecting across lines of difference, giving a sense of belonging, and giving students the tools to create the culture they want in the school.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Wednesday night is the sixth night of the Cuppa Tahoe/South Lake Tahoe Library's 24-day Tahoe Reading Advent Calendar. Tonight's bedtime reader is CoWork Tahoe and Untethered Space Co-Owner David Orr and his and Jamie's daughters, Annika and Ninah.

"Jamie and I read to our daughters every night to help them wind down," said David, who is also a board member of TAMBA. "I find it a good way to spend some quality time with my girls and wear mud masks or do our nails."
