Members of the St. Theresa Filipino Community love sponsoring Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal and serving up a delicious Filipino themed dinner. Hosting their second Adopt A Day of Nourishment this year, the Filipino community group sponsored the March 25th Monday Meal and brought their well-honed cooking skills and favorite Filipino cuisine recipes to feed the grateful dinner guests congregating for a communal meal at Grace Hall.

Bread & Broth takes tremendous pride in providing a fantastic communal dinner every Monday that everyone in the community is invited to attend. Sharing a full-course, nutritious dinner with other members of our community is a wonderful way to engage in fellowship and share a delicious dinner with others. B&B has been providing meals to the community for almost 30 years and for the past eight years, the Adopt A Day of Nourishment program has provided any member of the community the opportunity to host and serve at their sponsorship dinner.

Taking a break from helping skiers and keeping them safe on Heavenly Mountain Resort’s slopes, Heavenly Ski Patrol members exchanged their skis for Bread & Broth aprons to help feed Monday Meal dinner guests on March 4, 2019. As a follow-up to an Adopt A Day of Nourishment on February 4, Heavenly Ski Patrol sponsored their second AAD for the year and sent another great crew to serve at the B&B dinner.

Thanks to Vail’s EpicPromise grant program, Heavenly Mountain Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort alternate months sending Adopt A Day sponsor crew teams to host and volunteer at Bread & Broth Monday Meal dinners. On February 24, it was members from Heavenly’s IT team who donned B&B aprons and graciously served the evening’s dinner guests.

With a big winter snow storm hitting the Tahoe area on Monday, February 2, there was no better crew to have sponsor the Adopt A Day of Nourishment meal than Heavenly’s Ski Patrol members. This crew braved the snowy roads and whiteout conditions to come to St. Theresa Church Grace Hall and help provide a hot and filling beef stroganoff dinner to the hungry folks who faced difficult conditions to attend B&B’s Monday Meal.

On Monday, January 28, Bread & Broth’s 102 dinner guests were treated to a very special dinner. Members of St. Theresa’s Filipino community cooked and served chicken adobo, sweet and sour pork ribs, shrimp and chicken pasta, honey mustard chicken, steamed vegetables, rice, and salad. All delicious Filipino specialty dishes. In addition, to the heaping first servings dished out, many of the diners came back for seconds and containers filled with ‘leftovers’ to take home.

Bread & Broth’s January 14th Monday Meal dinner was hosted by the Tahoe Douglas Elk Lodge #2670. “The Elk’s Club is once again happy to be able to help out with this worthwhile project,” commented Elk Lodge member J.J. Clause. “It is so wonderful to be able to serve those in our community who are less fortunate. From a 45-year resident, kudos for being an integral part of our community.”

“A very fulfilling and gratifying evening,” exclaimed Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra member Sharon Seegelken. “The dinner guests were very friendly and appreciative,” she added. The evening dinner that Sharon was describing was the Monday Meal served by Bread & Broth on January 7th. Thanks to the generous $300 donation made by the Kiwanis Club, Bread & Broth held its weekly Monday Meal dinner and everyone who came to St. Theresa’s Grace Hall was welcome to enjoy a hot, nutritious dinner and given food to take home.

Bread & Broth to benefit from Tahoe Chamber's annual Connect for a Cause

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Bread & Broth, the local nonprofit tasked with feeding those in need on the South Shore, will be the beneficiary of the annual Connect for a Cause Charity Mixer on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Riva Grill in South Lake Tahoe.

Hosted by the Tahoe Chamber, the mixer will raise funds and gather food donations for the group's Bread & Broth 4 Kids program which gives away up to 170 bags of food each weekend to local school children in grades K-8.

Fortunately for B&B, an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, we are the recipients of the very generous support of the Rotary club members which enables the program to provide meals and bags filled with food to those in need of food support in our community.

Montbleu Resort Casino and Spa hosted Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on November 27 and sent an amazing sponsor crew to help the B&B volunteers serve a turkey tetrazzini full course dinner to the 92 guests attending dinner that evening.

The doors to St. Theresa Grace Hall are open from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. and everyone from the community is invited to enjoy the tasty and filling dinners that are served every Monday throughout the year by the Bread & Broth organization.

The Corporate Offices of Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc. hosts a National Day of Service with the goal of ending hunger during the month of November and encourages all of the branch offices to participate in a day of service within their communities. For the past six years, Richard Gross, Private Wealth Advisor and owner of the South Lake Tahoe community’s Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc. office, has hosted a Bread & Broth Adopt A Day of Nourishment in order to serve the local community members a hot, nutritious meal.

It’s a bit of a drive for Kirkwood Mountain Resort team members to travel to South Lake Tahoe to volunteer at a Bread & Broth Monday Meal dinner at St. Theresa Grace Hall, however, it is a trip that the Kirkwood folks gladly make. Every other month 4-5 Kirkwood team members participate in Kirkwood’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment and join the B&B volunteers in serving the members of the Lake Tahoe South Shore community. Often there is a waiting list of Vail folks who want to come help at the B&B dinners.

Bread & Broth volunteers always enjoy the Monday Meals sponsored by the Harrah’s/ Harveys’ HEROs. This employee based organization sponsors two Adopt A Day of Nourishment dinners annually and always sends a superb team of HEROs crew members to help volunteer at their sponsorship dinner held at St. Theresa Grace Hall. On October 29, the HEROs were represented by Jeff Colameco, Patrick Frega and Darlene Winkelman, who are seasoned AAD sponsor crew members, and Jenny Haas and Veronica Vilaseca, who enjoyed their first time serving at a B&B dinner.

“Just like food fills the stomach, being able to serve fills our heart,” exclaimed Nathan Duke. Nathan came to the October 22nd Monday Meal as an Adopt-A-Day sponsor crew member for the Tahoe Beach Retreat. Not only was this Nathan’s first experience helping at a B&B dinner but it was also the first time volunteering at a B&B event for his two fellow Beach Retreat crew members, Buffy Linkul and Jenna Overman.

Thanks to the generosity of Liberty Utilities, Inc., two Bread & Broth Monday Meal dinners were served to our community members who depend on the weekly meals to help them through the week. As the Bread & Broth dinner guests were lining up outside of St. Theresa Church Grace Hall, the volunteers from Sierra Valley Electric, Inc. were busy helping the B&B volunteers prepare for the evening’s free meal on October 1st. Family owned and operated Adventure Mountain Lake Tahoe will soon be offering sledding, tubing, and snow fun adventures in the upcoming winter months. The Rotary Club is dedicated to helping others and its members are involved in many community projects that improve the quality life for the disadvantaged. The club encourages its members to work side by side with the community in local serve projects and has signed up to host four additional Adopt A Days of Nourishment sponsorships over the next nine months.

Bread & Broth is very grateful for the Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsorship that was hosted by Mind Body Physical Therapy on Monday, August 28, 2018. B&B serves a dinner every Monday at Grace Hall that is financially sponsored by the AAD host and made possible by the hard work of the B&B volunteers and the AAD sponsor crew members who all volunteer their time and effort to feed those in need in our community.

Promoting philanthropy for the health of the community, Barton Memorial Hospital Foundation hosted a Bread & Broth Adopt-A-Day of Nourishment on Monday, August 20.
Thanks to the help provided by Barton Foundation’s volunteer crew members, the evening’s 106 dinner guests enjoyed a Mexican casserole served with salads, coleslaw, tasty desserts and a bag of food filled with dairy products, fruit, vegetables, canned goods, and breads and pastries to take home for meals later in the week.

"Follow the Money" Book Launch and Discussion at the SLT Library

Bringing lots of energy and good vibes, the ladies from Still Water Yoga were very excited to participate in their Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsorship for Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on July 30th. Coming to volunteer on behalf of Still Water Yoga were sponsor crew members Karen Erberlin, Carol Faccinetti, Susan Glasson, Tiffany Grimes and Liz Norman. These ladies exemplified the spirit of Still Water Yoga through their warmth and openness to helping others, especially, the guests attending the evening’s dinner.

An amazing group of Kirkwood crew members volunteered to serve at Kirkwood Mountain Resort’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment on Monday, July 23. “These young people were some of the best sponsor volunteers that we have ever had,” exclaimed Dana Tucker, the AAD Sponsor Crew Coordinator for the evening. “They were so happy to do anything that was asked of them.” Even at the end of the evening they all jumped in and dried the dishes to help clean up after the meal.

Bread & Broth serves two meals weekly and welcomes everyone from the Lake Tahoe Shore community to enjoy the wonderful dinners prepared by their talented and creative volunteer cooks and warmly served by our dinner crew volunteers. Our meals are not only meant to ease hunger, but to provide the opportunity to spend a meal in fellowship with other community members. Being hungry is not a prerequisite to enjoy the non-profit group's meals.

Lake Tahoe Community College Foundation honors faculty members

Children's summer food program starts Wednesday in South Lake Tahoe

The 2018 Bread & Broth 4 Kids Summer Program will once again serve the children in the community with food beginning June 20, thanks to generous donations from the community and Vail Resorts. Food will be available at three South Lake Tahoe locations every Wednesday through August 22.

The students at Lake Tahoe Middle School have the opportunity to join Club Live which is an organization that promotes a healthy lifestyle by providing high energy alternative activities. For 25 years the Club has featured leadership events, community service projects, club meetings and recreational trips. For the past four years, Larry Lambdin, the Club’s mentor/leader, has had Club Live sponsor a Bread & Broth Adopt A Day of Nourishment and offer three to four of the clubs members the opportunity help those dealing with poverty.

The week of April 22 was Pay it Forward week. To honor this concept of making a difference in another person’s life, Bread & Broth’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment meal on Monday April 23 was sponsored by John McDougall’s Pay It Forward grant and members of Unity at the Lake Church. The Pay It Forward concept is all about people giving to someone else and making a positive difference.

“Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is committed to serving our community and it was an honor to be able to be a part of Bread & Broth,” commented Michelle Sower, Dean of Instruction at the college in South Lake Tahoe. Michelle was a sponsor crew member from LTCC at the ADVANCE Adult Education Adopt A Day dinner on May 21. LTCC’s new ADVANCE program is geared to provide free training for adults, who are interested in improving their job skills and looking to advance in their careers, and is just an extension of the many ways the college is providing support to our local community members.

Bread & Broth was very excited to have members of Barton Hospital’s Dietitian Department sponsor the Monday Meal on May 14th. So many departments from Barton Hospital host ‘Adopt A Day of Nourishments’ and they always send wonderful sponsor crew members to help at their sponsorship dinners. True to form, the five Barton volunteers, Rebecca Espinel, Jessica Keys, Lynn Norton, Kristine Travis and Jennifer Trew, were a joy to work with.

Every Monday of the year, the Bread & Broth volunteers collect donated food, setup a dining area in St. Theresa Hall, prepare and cook a tasty full-course meal, setup a dessert and drink area, and pack food ‘giveaway’ bags for the 65 to 100 dinner guests who show up for a free meal to which everyone in the community is invited to attend.

These wonderful meals are hosted by “Adopt A Day of Nourishment” sponsors who not only financially help cover the costs of the dinner but also send sponsor crew members who work alongside of the B&B volunteers to prepare the community dinner.

The LTCC ADVANCE Adult Education Program is a recently implemented program at the college whose focus is to train local adults with workforce skills aimed to lead to higher wages and greater employment options. ADVANCE is a collaborative network of local businesses, government offices and the K-12 LTUSD which offers the free instruction to local residents. In addition to helping adults improve their earning skills, the ADVANCE program wanted to help locals have access to a hot, nutritious meal by sponsoring a Bread & Broth Monday Meal.

With their generously donated funds and over 70 hours of volunteering, the Rotarians served over 450 nutritious, filling meals to grateful diners who come to Grace Hall for a free dinner and a chance to spent time with friends and acquaintances.

This fantastic group served up teriyaki chicken and vegetables, chicken adobo, steamed rice, coleslaw topped off with delicious desserts to the 93 attending dinner guests. Needless to say, there were no ‘leftovers’ at the end of the meal.
