SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officers announced 173 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday. This includes the approximate 200 positive cases that needed to be assigned to a region. Of those, 37 are in El Dorado Hills, 22 in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, 34 in Greater Placerville, 5 in Diamond Springs/El Dorado, 3 in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz, 5 in North County, 0 in South County, 51 in Lake Tahoe region. There are 16 of the new cases awaiting address confirmation, and the pending address confirmation count is now 90.

El Dorado County reactivates its Emergency Operations Center

El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office today announced the reactivation of the
County’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in response to the increase in COVID-19 cases and its impact on County hospitals. It includes personnel from the Sheriff’s Office, County Public Health department and the County’s Chief Administrative Office.

LTUSD to remain on distance learning through at least January 8

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) announced late Wednesday that they will be staying on distance learning until at least January 8, 2021.

Due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in the area, District officials said they are concerned for the health and safety of staff and students. With Winter Break starting December 21 they said the likelihood of a significant decrease in community spread before then. School will not be in session until January 4.

Douglas County Public Health Officer issues guidance after rise in COVID-19 cases

Douglas County has recently seen an alarming increase in COVID-19 cases in an extremely short period of time. This is part of a regional and statewide trend in rapidly increasing confirmed COVID-19 infections and they are experiencing strain to their healthcare system and first responders.

Douglas County cancels public holiday events due to rise in COVID-19 cases

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. = After consultation with the Douglas County officials, the towns, public safety agencies, and Douglas County Emergency Management it was determined in-person public holiday events in the towns of Gardnerville, Genoa, and Minden have been canceled. This includes the 25th annual Parade of Lights hosted by the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce. County officials said the action was deemed necessary for the safety of the community, due to the most recent State directive limiting public gatherings to no more than 50 people.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If COVID-19 cases continue their dramatic rise, California Governor Gavin Newsom said there may be more drastic measures coming, including a stay-at-home order in purple-tier counties where cases are surging. Newsom said Northern California hospitals are currently at 85 percent capacity in the ICU and they are expected to be at 100 percent in early December.

COVID-19 testing available on LTCC campus through winter

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) will continue to serve as an appointment-only COVID-19 testing center through March 31, 2021. The college’s standalone Physical Education building is the only large-scale COVID-19 active virus testing site operating in El Dorado County.

Alpine County moves into the Red Tier

As of noon Saturday, Alpine County has been assigned by the California Department of Public Health to the Red Tier in the state’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy. This move is based on statistical data which includes:
- Test Positivity (7-day average with a 4-day lag) – 5.8 percent
- Total new cases (7-day total with a 4-day lag) – 6

Being the smallest county in the state with about 1,200 residents, their increasing case load has concerned Public Health Officer, Dr. Richard Johnson.

Nevada under new safety measures after surge of COVID-19 deaths and positivity rate

Governor Steve Sisolak announced a "at least a three-week statewide pause" to protect Nevadans from the pandemic due to a surge in positive cases and deaths. Starting Tuesday, November 24 at 12:01 a.m. there will be tighter business restrictions and a stricter mask mandate in the state of Nevada.

Many thought he would be calling for a shutdown in the state, but instead he chose the "pause" at this time. Sisolak said ten percent of all COVID-19 cases in Nevada since beginning of pandemic have been recorded in the last seven days.

Of those, 15 are in El Dorado Hills, five in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, four in North County, one in South County, eight in Greater Placerville, eight in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz, and 11 in Lake Tahoe region.

Another 374 people were tested for the coronavirus and 322 negative tests results were received.

New California 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. curfew starts Saturday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Due to the rise in COVID-19 cases, California has issued a limited Stay at Home Order. All non-essential work and gatherings must stop from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. in counties in the purple tier, including El Dorado County.

This will take effect at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2020 and remain in place for one month until 5:00 a.m. December 21.

The curfew comes after 40 counties moved into the more restrictive purple tier after experiencing a rise in hospitalizations and positive cases of COVID-19.

Non-essential services offered by City of South Lake Tahoe moved remotely

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The state has moved El Dorado County, and subsequently, South Lake Tahoe moved into the purple tier at noon on Tuesday. With the new restrictions on businesses, non-essential City of South Lake Tahoe offices will be closed. City employees working in non-essential offices will be available either by e-mail or telephone to the public.

Tahoe Chamber to hold virtual Town Hall meeting on moving to purple tier

Now that El Dorado County has been moved to the most restrictive Tier 1 Purple starting Tuesday the Tahoe Chamber has scheduled a virtual Town Hall meeting for Friday, November 20 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Two more students in LTUSD test positive for COVID-19; All contacts notified

UPDATE 11/16/20: Lake Tahoe Unified School District has issued a correction to their statement from Sunday. At Sierra House Elementary no students or staff have tested positive. One family member of a student tested positive so the student is currently quarantined.

LTUSD to remain in Phase 2 Hybrid Learning through rest of 2020

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) leadership looked at current COVID-19 data they announced Monday they will not be shifting to the next learning phase and will remain in Phase 2.

In accordance with their Pandemic Educational Plan timeline, LTUSD concluded its assessment of the data and criteria required did not meet what was needed for a possible shift to the next phase. There has been a significant increase of COVID-19 cases over the past four weeks with 15 new cases over the weekend.

Taylor Creek closure extended by USFS

Due to continued public health and safety concerns, trail construction, risk of bear-human encounters and in order to discourage large groups from gathering, the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit has extended a Forest Order that temporarily closes Taylor Creek and the surrounding area. This order (see here) is extended through November 9 at this time.

Time to Fall Back as daylight saving time comes to an end for 2020

Daylight-saving time comes to an end for 2020 on Sunday, November 1 at 2:00 a.m. in much of the United States. Clocks will move back one hour as standard time starts its run.

The practice of having the time change started in the early 1900s as a way to make better use of daylight during the spring and summer months, so there is an extra hour of sunlight in the evening instead of the morning.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say another eight residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday. Of those, two are in El Dorado Hills, three in Greater Placerville, two in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, and one in the Lake Tahoe region.

One of those new cases, six are aged 18-49, one are aged 50-64, and one 65 or older.

Another 178 people were tested for the coronavirus and 170 negative tests results were received.

There have been another seven assumed recoveries with 121 assumed active cases.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say another 12 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday. Of those, two are in El Dorado Hills, two in Greater Placerville, one in Diamond Springs/El Dorado, one in North County, five in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, and one in the Lake Tahoe region.

One of those new cases, one is under the age of 18, six are aged 18-49, and five are aged 50-64.

Another 288 people were tested for the coronavirus and 276 negative tests results were received.

Positive COVID-19 test result in Lake Tahoe Unified School District

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) said Wednesday that there has been a COVID-19 positive case at Bijou Community School.

LTUSD, with guidance from El Dorado County Public Health Department, has notified individuals at the school site of the need to isolate and monitor their health. It has not been released if the person was a teacher, student or staff member.
