All wood and charcoal fires banned in Lake Tahoe Basin

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - In a unified move, all fire agencies around the Lake Tahoe Basin have banned all open burning utilizing wood and charcoal for the remainder of the summer, or longer if needed. This includes campgrounds with fire rings, fire pits at homes and all charcoal barbeques whether at home or at public and private facilities.

The suspension takes effect at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2020 and will be enforced with extinguishment and possible citations and fines.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health offiicals announced another eight positive cases of COVID-19 today, four in the Lake Tahoe region, three in El Dorado Hills and one in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue. Of those, three are aged 18-49, two are 50-64, two aged 65 or older and one result did not have a birthdate on it.

Another 197 tests were given, 189 negative test results were returned and there are 15 new assumed recoveries.

There is no change in hospitalization and one remains in the ICU and there are no suspected cases in the hospital.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say there were six new cases of COVID-19 today, one in the Lake Tahoe region, one in El Dorado Hills, Three in 3 in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue and one in North County. Of these, one is aged under 18, two are aged 18-49, two aged 50-64 and one aged 65 or older.

An additional 112 people have been tested, 106 negative test results were received and there have been 11 assumed recoveries. That leaves an assumed 143 active cases in El Dorado County.

Smoke from Loyalton Fire leads to postponement of Washoe County school start

WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. - Students in the Washoe County School District will not be going back to school as planned on Monday, August 17. COVID-19 didn't delay the start but heavy smoke and unhealthy air from the Loyalton Fire did.

The fire had consumed over 28,000 acres as of Sunday, prompting officials to delay the start at all schools in the district except for those in Lake Tahoe. Both Incline Elementary and High Schools had a scheduled start of school for August 31.

South Lake Tahoe did not lead the group which is the norm and had five positive cases. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say another nine positive cases of COVID-19 were documented on Thursday. Of those, five are in the Lake Tahoe region, two in El Dorado Hills, and one each in Greater Placerville and the North County. The new cases are eight people aged 18-49, and one aged 50-64.

Another 382 tests were administered and 373 negative test results were received.

Currently there are 155 assumed active cases and 11 assumed recoveries.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If you are accustomed to paying premium prices for parking in towns like San Francisco, Los Angeles and Sacramento, how much would you be willing to pay for a parking ticket in Lake Tahoe?

Apprently whatever it costs.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) issued 297 parking citations along SR89 at Emerald Bay in July and 273 during the first 11 days of August. Six vehicles were towed from the area during this time.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say another eight people have tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday, bringing the total of 793 cases to date. Of the new cases, four are from the Lake Tahoe region, two from El Dorado Hills, one from Greater Placerville and one from South County. In those counts, four are aged 18-49, three aged 50-64 and one aged 65 or older.

An additional 350 people have been tested for coronavirus. There were 342 negative test results received today and 24 assumed recoveries. The current assume positive case load is 157 in the county.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - One more person has died of COVID-19 in El Dorado County. A man from Placerville in the 50-64 age group died in an out-of-area hospital, it was confirmed today.

Starting August 9, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is entering Stage 2 Fire Restrictions in response to the current severe risk of wildfire. Nevada is experiencing record dry conditions with much of the state in a severe drought.

Incline Village and Crystal Bay homeowners to get $56M tax refund

Incline Village and Crystal Bay property owners will be soon getting refunds from Washoe County after the County Commission approved a settlement of an estimated $56M during their meeting Tuesday. Half of those funds will come from Washoe County and the rest will come from the other beneficiaries of those tax payments - Washoe County School District, North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, Incline Village Improvement District, and the State of Nevada.

Blaze shuts down US395 in both directions near Hallelujah Junction

Evacuations are underway after a three fires broke out north of Hallelujah Junction near US395 Sunday afternoon. The highway is currently closed in both directions from the junction with SR70 to Contantia Road.

Gaming revenues down in state as casinos start back up after closures

STATELINE, Nev. - Nevada’s nonrestricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $566,806,791 for the month of June 2020, the first month casinos started to reopen in the state after being closed due to the coronavirus. This amounts to a 45.55 percent decrease compared to June 2019, when licensees reported a gaming win of $1,040,978,076 according to the monthly report released today by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Volunteers spend Tahoe Forest Stewardship day restoring Johnson Meadow

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Johnson Meadow was once used as a post-Gold Rush dairy farm, became a place for summer cattle grazing, and is now being restored as part of the Upper Truckee River watershed. The Tahoe Resource Conservation District (TRCD) purchased the Johnson Meadow in 2018, a critical step in restoring the river's watershed that contains significant wildlife habitat, including river, riparian, meadow, and upland habitat areas.

Of the new cases, 16 are in the Lake Tahoe region, 11 are in El Dorado Hills, eight in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, five in Placerville, and one each in the North County and Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz regions.

Of the 42 new cases, three are under the age of 18, 27 aged 18-49, nine aged 50-64 and three aged 65 and older. Twenty-two are female, 20 are male.

Fire Weather Watch dropped for area, Red Flag Warning in place Monday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for thunderstorms and strong outflow winds for Monday, July 27 from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.

Normally, the Basin averages six Red Flag Warnings per season, and this makes four - and it's still July. Please remember all outdoor sources of open flame are prohibited until the Red Flag Warning declaration expires, and that includes gas/propane fire pits and grills.

Park Tahoe paid parking pilot program starts at East Shore Trail

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - When the three parking lots with 90 spaces were created last year in Incline Village for the popular East Shore Trail, they were free but all were told paid parking was coming in the near future.

That time has now come.

Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) has unveiled the Park Tahoe pilot program at the trailhead north of Ponderosa Rand Road. The lots were created to expand off-highway parking options along the high traffic area of SR28 between Incline Village and Sand Harbor State Park.

Compliance to State health mandates urged to keep South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County open

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The Board of Supervisors held a meeting on Thursday to discuss the current situation of positive cases of COVID-19 in the county, especially in South Lake Tahoe where numbers are starting to grow.

After almost four hours of discussion, both amongst themselves and during public comment, the Board made the following action items but didn't vote on any county-wide orders:

The total count only changed by two due to one person's location being misidentified and another was a duplicate entry, according to county officials.
