SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Robert Henderson was recently selected as general manager to lead Camp Richardson Resort’s phased $12 million revitalization. Henderson comes to the historic Lake Tahoe resort from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park’s Volcano House, where he served as the hotel’s general manager, and before that, as executive chef.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An active weather pattern continues overnight and tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. Snow showers are expected to return overnight for some areas above 5000 feet. Accumulations will be lighter, but some valley locations could
receive a few inches. Lingering snow is expected afterward until the next system swings by on Thursday and Friday. No significant impacts are expected at the moment.

Jimmy was born January 18, 1945 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Nick and Theresa Reszetylo. The oldest of six children he graduated from Aliquippa High School in Aliquippa, PA. He enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Minot, North Dakota where it was so cold he volunteered to go to Vietnam in 1966. Upon honorable discharge, he moved to San Diego and worked for Beneficial Finance then on to Ventura County where he won highest producer awards at Winfield Title Co.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT) is hosting an art show at the Lake Tahoe Airport from February 16 to February 19.
Throughout the 2023-2024 school year, a select number of club members’ artwork is chosen to be in the show. The art is separated into four age groups: 6 to 9 years old, 10 to 12 years old, 13 to 15 years old, and 16 to 18 years old. Their work is in the four art categories of drawing, painting, sculpture, and pastels, with up to 16 art pieces on display - one for each age in each category.

Douglas County closes non-essential services for Monday, vote centers will be open

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Due to severe winter weather and hazardous driving conditions, Douglas County Manager Jenifer Davidson has authorized the closure of County offices on Monday, February 5.
Sheriff Dan Coverley advises motorists to avoid nonessential travel during hazardous driving conditions. County officials are monitoring the situation and will reopen offices when safe to do so.
Aside from essential public safety, corrections, courts, and elections personnel, County offices will close for the day.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - "You bet on us, so we placed a bet for you," said the favors at the September 2023 wedding of locals Matt and Jessica Grime at the 4H Camp in Stateline.
What was that bet you ask?
The Grimes purchased 180 $2 tickets at the Harveys Lake Tahoe sportsbook for the San Francisco 49ers to win the Super Bowl. They made the bets on June 7, so each $2 bet would pay out $17 extra, for a total of $19, with the +850 money line it came with should the 49ers win on Sunday.
Rep. Kiley joins El Dorado County DA in backing initiative to reverse much of Prop. 47

District Attorneys from El Dorado, Placer, and Nevada counties joined Representative Kevin Kiley last week to discuss the initiative to increase drug and property crime penalties and allow a new class of crime called treatment-mandated felonies. Many are trying to get the Homelessness, Drug Addiction, and Theft Reduction Act on the ballot in November, and still need about 200,000 signatures to get it there.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Warning to be in effect from 10 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday. Heavy snow is expected in the greater Lake Tahoe area and Mono County.
Snow accumulations 3 to 5 feet above 7000 feet along the Sierra crest. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 feet below 7000 feet, except 1 to 4 inches for areas below 5500 feet in Mono County.

Work on Apache Avenue Pedestrian Safety and Connectivity Project set to start mid-May

MEYERS, Calif. - Funding for the Apache Avenue Pedestrian Safety and Connectivity Project in Meyers is in place. Caltrans announced the awarding of $1.7 million in Active Transportation Program funds for the project and combined with multiple sources including federal and local funds the project is ready for El Dorado County (EDC) Board of Supervisors approval.
If approved by the Board on February 27, the project will go to bid with an anticipated start of construction in mid-May 2024, and completion this fall.

Judge Glasson (ret.) selected by Nevada Supreme Court as senior justice of the peace

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Recently retired Judge Richard Glasson has been selected by the Nevada Supreme Court to serve as senior justice of the peace.
Having worked since he was 14, Glasson said he was looking forward to "just goofing off" after retiring from the court.
"But being a judge is psychically rewarding," said Glasson. "All the rules of evidence, procedure, and civil/criminal law take up so much space on the hard drive between my ears that it's tough to just walk away entirely. My work as a mediator and arbitrator has increased now that I am free of a daily court calendar."

Starting February 1, the food waste drop-off program is moving to a new location to allow for expanded days and times. DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - In response to transportation needs on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe's South Shore, the South Shore Transportation Management Association (SSTMA) has begun an initiative to start vanpooling.
Douglas County has been contributing to Lake Link, a micro-transit option for transportation at Lake Tahoe, and the commissioners told SSTMA they also wanted commuter transportation for those living in the Carson Valley.
Tahoe casinos "win" figure $18.2 million in December

Nevada’s nonrestricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $1,432,633,317 for December 2023, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board's monthly report released Wednesday. This amounts to a 9.04 percent increase compared to the same month a year ago when licensees reported a gaming win of $1,313,801,128. For the fiscal year to date (since July), the gaming win has increased by 5.49 percent with $8,005,945,288 in "win".
The "gaming win" represents the computed income of casinos before business expenses and taxes.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It wasn't the ski trip to Lake Tahoe that Monica Laso planned on having, but it certainly isn't going to be one she soon forgets.
Laso was skiing with friends on her first visit to Heavenly Mountain Resort last Thursday, January 25, when she became separated from them. According to interviews she's been giving to media outlets, Laso said she approached gondola operators at 4:58 p.m. to get a ride down the mountain. At 5 p.m., she said the lifts stopped for the day.

Person of interest sought in Lake Tahoe shooting on West Shore

HOMEWOOD, Calif. - The Placer County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) investigations unit has identified 26-year-old Luis Sanchez-Cabada as a person of interest in the shooting that occurred on Monday in Homewood on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe.
At this time, PCSO said they believe this was an isolated incident and there is no additional risk to the community. The shooting on January 29 occurred on West Lake Blvd. near Silver Street near the Swiss Restaurant.
Former Whittell and Washoe County teacher sentenced in Lake Tahoe stalking case

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - In a one-day trial Monday, former Whittell High School teacher Michael John Ismari was given a sentence of 180 days for the stalking of an ex-girlfriend. He will serve 30 days with 150 days suspended for two years.
Tahoe Township Justice of the Peace Michael Johnson imposed the sentence after hearing from the victim, her friends, deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, and Ismari himself. Through his attorney, Ismari asked to start the sentence in ten days, but Johnson had him remanded into custody as soon as sentenced.
Snowpack still well below average - Monthly measurement at Phillips Station 58% of average

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With several storms forecast for the Sierra Nevada in the coming days, the snowpack may change, but as of today, the snow water equivalent of 10 inches measured at Phillips Station is 58 percent of the average for that location.
The Department of Water Resources (DWR) conducted its monthly winter measurement at Phillips Station near Sierra-at-Tahoe, west of Lake Tahoe. Staff found 29 inches of snow. One year ago, the statewide measurement was 214 percent of the average for this date.
Lake Link expands coverage in South Lake Tahoe and Douglas County

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The possibility of a ballot measure to move the City of South Lake Tahoe from a general law city to a charter city has been taken off the table for the time being.
Two members of the City Council, Mayor Cody Bass and Councilmember Scott Robbins, were appointed to a subcommittee to explore a possible ballot measure. Bass has long been a proponent of the charter city idea as a way to create more revenue by imposing a transfer tax on real estate transactions, something a general law city cannot.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Warm and dry conditions will persist through most of Wednesday as high pressure traverses the Sierra and western Nevada, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. Winds will begin to increase Wednesday afternoon as a storm approaches the West Coast. That storm will bring much colder temperatures, heavy wet Sierra snow, and valley rain Wednesday night into Thursday. Snow showers may linger at all elevations Friday into the weekend.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - El Dorado County is in the process of updating its Defensible Space Ordinance. The Office of Wildfire Preparedness and Resilience (OWPR) will be hosting two public workshops to provide additional information on the proposed Ordinance amendments and address any questions or concerns, on on each side of the county.
